New optical table for MultiSAS at Nikhef R&D department
See how the new 105kg optical table hangs in the MultiSAS of the Nikhef R&D department and the work to close the vacuum vessel has progressed

This new optical table is completely milled from one block of stainless steel and weighs 105 kg. MultiSAS : Multiple-stage Seismic Attenuation System.
This MultiSAS is from the R&D department in the Gravitational lab. Five of the same systems were made 10 years ago for VIRGO (Italy). MultiSAS dampens the slightest vibration for this new optical table which will soon be the most vibration-free R&D place in the Netherlands.
There are 3 vertical and 3 horizontal LVDTs (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) on the optical table. These 6 LVDTs are for vibration measurement and damping of the optical table.
All electrical wiring has Teflon insulation (white) due to the vacuum in which the system will operate. The electrical wiring is hung in such a way that they have minimal effect on the stability of the table.
On the table are 4 geophones for acceleration measurements
April 29; 2024 First attempt is made to close the vacuum vessel by the company Convoi. The MultiSAS is moved forward 20 cm, on cilinder rollers, to create space for placing the top vacuum vessel. A mini 'caterpillar spider crane' is used for the top vacuum vessels. Convoi sees then a problem, the side flanges on the vacuum vessel protrude to much, which causing it will not fit over the MultiSAS. One of the top vacuum vessel needs to be remachined, which takes a lot of time, vacuum ports are ground and rewelded.
One week later, May 6; 2024, is the second attempt to close the vacuum vessel. Now the vessel fits. The lower vacuum vessel can be placed with a special high lift pallet cart.
First, the MultiSAS will test the second generation MEMS which are thousands of times sensitive than the ones in your smartphone

Ma solo nel 2034 si avrà la certezza assoluta col satellite LISA informatore laser spaziale. Chi vincerà il Nobel cioè la corsa all'oro?
