I remember a group with the same name, who played at Penn State pretty often in 1966. Did a great rendition of "I Want To Do It." Same group?

Here it is 15 years later after this interview…and pop music continues to go down the “SUCK” rabbit hole. As a musician/songwriter & former radio DJ, I think the problem has been the same one the the internet/video games/MTV has caused: shortening the attention spans of kids and propping up each new wave of “talent” as each one has seemingly degraded from the one before. Think of it as cooking gravy from leftovers…and each time you water down your stock from the last version…so each time you start with a thinner, watered down stock. What you get is a much degraded result. The better “new” talent you will find are ones who reach back 5 or more generations to get their influences, to create something new…NOT just try to do their version of last years pop idol. Plus a huge problem that most do not realize is, pop music has largely lost it’s sense of melody. Most song melodies are now almost stacatto, with very short notes…basically from the short rap lyric styles adapted to modern pop “singing.” Plus nearly all of it is now run thru pitch correctors and other FX because the “singers” are rarely any good. It’s all part of the de-evolution of society…in general mist are dumber, lazier and less talented than just a couple decades ago. Go back 50 years and modern society is like cavemen with iphones. No one needs to think anymore because they just press a button for an answer. Sad.

Elton is absolutely right about the quality of today's pop music. It's shit. Thank god I was born in the early 50s so I could hear the Beach Boys, Elton, The Stones, Leon especially, CSNY, Cass Elliot, Dylan, Joan Baez, Tze Allman Brothers, and so many others great writers and bands. I feel blessed. Thank you for the great music, Leon. RIP.

A beautiful Song

Staring so long ago. , because I had friends in Tulsa, Leon came into my life/ his music . Me and my brand new wife went out to the Concord music pavilion as saw Leon and his bride Mary perform the wedding album music. Man what a wonderfull , Love filled night. R.I.P. Tulsa Man !!!!!!!!!!!

Whow, whow I only know Leon from Joe Cockers maddog/ englishmen which was tops to me, now see this dude(lovingly) so much more here & had no idea- massively impressed! See natural causes in death, yet a huge natural cause in life!! Naturally thank you sir for the joy you brought so many.

Leon was one of the three or four artists I first discovered when I was old enough to discover artists by myself. (Amazingly, another one of those three or four was J J Cale, and it took me 20 years to find out how close they were.) I listen to his music regularly ever since. This is the first time I saw a recording of this event, and it moved me quite a bit. I guess I'll have to put on Leon Russell and the Shelter People and have sip of the whiskey, like when I was 15 and my parents were away. Cheers!

One of the first albums l brought in 1970 at the age of 16 . This along with Hawkwinds debut album and" ln a Gadda Da Vida " by lron Butterfly . l remember being blown away by singer ChrisYoulden' vocals (what a sadly underated singer he was ) and the lead guitars of Lonesome Dave and Kim Simmonds . The studio side was excellent and the live side showed what a great band they were live . Went on to get their albums over the years my favourite being "Lookin' ln" where the two axemen really show their talents . Great band big in the states but here in the UK a club and university circuit group with a small and dedicated foiiowing .

Incredible band. My uncle gave this album to my older brother in about 1970 and we’ve never stopped listening to it. Another great track is Made up My mind which has a great swing to it! And also the song I’m Tired is also great

Very sad it took so long for him to be inducted into the Rock and roll Hall of Fame, somehow I feel like it was because he wouldn't play the "game". Such a fine musician, genius and talented artist should have never been on the "side of the highway of life".
