Hiker Parade - Trail Days 2024 Damascus, VA
I was lucky enough to have cleared my schedule for the weekend to go over to Trail Days in Damascus Virginia this weekend. It was great seeing some hiker friends whom I haven't gotten to visit with in a while, and to meet some new friends that I follow on the socals it's was great meeting them in person as well.
The hiker parade was really cool to witness and so much fun.

West Point - Mt LeConte
zhlédnutí 275Před 5 měsíci
We started the day early and headed up Alum Cave Trail. Along the way we ventured off-trail for a .4 mile journey to the West Point of Mount LeConte. Don't ask me how to get there cause I'm not telling. You must know the basics of off-trail hiking and be very aware of the risks involved. Having navigational skills are a must as well. After our visit and lunch out on West Point we headed to the ...

    Hey, I have a couple of questions. First, what time did you get to the trailhead? And where is West Point? I’m local (Rogersville) and my husband and I are currently working on our map (I promise not to give info away!). We’ve tried to avoid the crowds and haven’t done any routes to LeConte yet (I’ve only been to Rainbow Falls). Also, since you’ve been so many times, what is your suggestion for combining routes and days to go to avoid the biggest crowds (and time of year). Any info would be great. Also, if you give any of this info in the video, ignore those requests. I’m doing this as I watch on my tv lol Thanks!!

    • @JohnnyontheTrail
      @JohnnyontheTrail Před 5 měsíci

      we got to the trailhead around 6:45 it was still dark out. but i heard shortly after 7 this day the parking lot filled up. There is no trail to west point so it's not needed for your 900 map. It's an off trail hike and not one i'd recommend to anyone that has never done anything off trail. It's too easy to get lost out there. as far as routes to Mt Leconte I would say that Alum is the busiest, Blvd, Rainbow, Trillium Gap or Bull Head are lot less crowded.
