Trials Bike Tour
My German client had a day's riding with me at Algarve Trailiding Tours on his Honda 4RT. My AJP 250 is very similar in some ways to the 4RT so it made sense to ride that and show Alex around my back yard. Plenty of brutal hills, some technical riding and a ton of single track all ridden in 35°C made for a hot, sweaty and really great fun day.

    Anyone on here with the 2019 SWM S500R? Do you have any issues starting the bike hot? And does it start on gear other than neutral? I have a 2019 RS500R and see both these issues along with flareouts. I wonder if anyone has a good fix for these issues documented somewhere.

      The pull/push button on the side of the FI body looks like a carburettor is a HEB. Hot Engine Button. Pull it out when engine is hot, start, push back in. Flareouts can be mapping option. Can be fuel air mixture. Look on rubbers where FI joints to cylinder.

    Hello. Could you write something about the reliability of the swm300r after these few years of use? What is the mileage on your machines now? Have you had any major mechanical problems with the engines? I'm just starting my adventure with rs300r (after xr400, xr650L) and I'm very curious about the opinion of an experienced user :)

    • @algarvetrailridingtours
      @algarvetrailridingtours Před 7 měsíci

      Hi, I now have only 1 SWM 300 as I have stopped supplying bikes and do guiding only now. However. In 4 years of ownership and each bike clocking approx 8000kms I NEVER had any serious mechanical issues. Regular valve checks, regular oil and filter changes that's all I did. The biggest problem was a faulty fuel pump. The cost of an original full replacement from SWM is ridiculously expensive but I got a fuel pump kit instead and that was fine. They're great value for money. The spares can be expensive. I think I paid 180€ for a clutch kit. If you have access to spares they're a good cheap enduro bike but resale price is low. Keep that in mind.

    I can confirm that they are an awesome trail bike and great value for money. Gets me everywhere the other go and only limited by my ability. Great build quality and performance. My only criticism would be that they need a slightly bigger fuel tank and I would like a slightly taller 6th gear for the high speed tracks and small amount of highway riding I do to get to the trails.

    Would the SPR250 be a consideration if I have been considering the Honda CRF300 Rally (big fuel capacity, reasonably capable off road, comfy on road, wind deflection, reliability, price €7,800, parts network, service intervals 12k klm, ABS, fuel economy, cannot think of more right now)? I'd be mostly using on road(not motorways). Thanks. Liam. Ireland.

    • @algarvetrailridingtours
      @algarvetrailridingtours Před rokem

      To me I personally feel there's a huge difference between the 2 bikes. In essence I'd say the 300L is a road bike with off-road capability. The SPR is an off-road bike with some road capability. If planning more commuting and adv riding then CRL if wanting more enduro biased riding SPR. However, there's always a bit of crossover on bikes.

      @@algarvetrailridingtours Thanks Anton. I'd use it for more small country roads. In Ireland there aren't really big, vast areas for off-road motorbiking. I live in the countryside & we have a few acres of land ride a bike on but I know you can't be belting up the mountain with sheep on them, the farmers would be going mad & I realise that myself. How is the bracket and 700i holding up? Do they both survive the bumps and harshness of off-road riding? I'm thinking of buying a Garmin Montana 700i for my 2021 KTM350EXC-F. The much more compact 66i would be smaller and easier to mount, but isn't much cheaper than the larger 700i (ie I want something with the InReach SOS capability). Many thanks for the tip on the mount - if I buy a 700i then I'm probably going to buy the matching F2R mount.

I own 2017 RS 300R with this pipe installed, but on a standard (factory) map. My SWM does not have map switch (older version). I have some problems with engine start when it is really hot. I have to use decompressor lever or even choke to start it when hot. What exact special map for Arrow exhaust do you mean? Where can I get one? My local service guys have no clue. Thanks in advance!

    • @algarvetrailridingtours
      @algarvetrailridingtours Před 2 lety

      I'm no expert on the mapping subject BUT you can use either factory for single exhaust or the Maya software option (most recommended). That choke is not a choke but is actually a HSB - hot start button and so is designed to help start a hot bike. I use it all the time on my bikes but the one with the maya/arrow can doesn't need it as much. I suggest join as many SWM FB groups to get help in sharing the maya software.

    Hello! Do you have any experience with SPR 250/310R/510R? If so, how would you rate them? How would you compare those SPR models? How would you compare them with SWM RS300R? Actually, isn't that 310R equipped with the same engine as SWM RS300R? I'm interested in AJP as well as SWM for short-distance commuting + weekend trail / enduro riding as well as occasional low-level amateur races (like Atom/Iron @ Romaniacs, etc.), as they're really cheaper than KTM/Yamaha/Fantic, etc, so I'm really interested. Thanks!

      NEVER ridden any of the SPR range. I like v. much the 310 AJP, yes exactly same engine as SWM. To me these are not suitable at all for commuting...see my other comments to you. It seems on paper the AJP 310cc maybe the "better" enduro/weekend racing bike....hard to tell and need to factor in spares, back up service, price. I am thinking to buy an AJP 310 next year to go with the SWM's...not sure but will consider it. Fantic use the same as the AJP PR5 engine (Zongshen) in a bike as well.....just an idea.

      @@algarvetrailridingtours Thanks for info! Yeah, I was checking out the Fantic XEF 250 Trail with 250cc 4 stroke Zongshen engine, although I don't like it as much because of its suspension. As I understand forks are not adjustable. Other than that I like Fantic and I have a dealer nearby. Regarding this engine, as I understand, you haven't had any trouble? how many hours / km you've had on those PR5? Thanks

  • @strifex-suspension-works

    Hello! I'm looking at buying either RS300R or RS500R and wanted to ask, do you have some real-life experience with RS500R as well? If so, how do they compare (especially in weight)? Would you recommend this bike for short-distance commuting + weekend trail / enduro riding as well as occasional low-level amateur races (like Atom/Iron @ Romaniacs, etc.) as a decent option/compromise? Thanks

      @algarvetrailridingtours Před 2 lety

      Hi, Only the 300r. Commuting...not really....high revving engine, no cush drive, noisy tyres etc. Yes entry level enduro bike choose the 300cc. I personally feel...others can disagree of course if commuting you want a CRfL450/300/250 or similar, so not a unicorn bike.

      @@algarvetrailridingtours Thanks for info. With regards to commuting I was thinking short distances in the city going to work, maybe to a shop, etc. Can you compare this RS300R with CRF300L, if you've had some experience with CRF300L...?

      @@algarvetrailridingtours Yeah. I just contacted one of Germany AJP dealers and he told me that the PR range of bikes basically has been discontinued and they're going to have the SPR lineup now, that is the 250 [6590 EUR], 310 R [8590 EUR], and 510 R [8890 EUR], maybe 240 [4700 EUR], if they can get Euro 5 homologation for it (he provided also the prices mentioned). He confirmed that the engines on 310R and 510R are the same ones in SWM RS300R and RS500R (if the language barrier did not make me misunderstand him). Also, he provided wet weight for SPR 310 R = 117 kg and SPR 510 R = 120 kg, which is similar to SWM (SWM seems to be ~5kg heavier). With all this information (mainly the price of AJP bikes as provided by the Germany dealer) I'm wondering is the AJP SPR 310 R and 510 R are worth the extra cost compared to SWM (6700-7000 EUR for RS300R and 7200-7500 EUR for RS500R), especially considering that I have a SWM dealer in my town, but the closest AJP dealer is in the neighboring country some 320 km away. What do you think? Do you think the AJP SPR 310 R @ 8590 EUR is worth the extra ~1600 EUR compared to SWM RS300R? On the surface, it definitely doesn't seem so.

      @@strifex-suspension-works I cannot really say if it's worth it as I have never ridden the 310 AJP....if you get the SWM and put the arrow single exhaust conversion, then the ajp and swm will be very similar to each other in performance I would guess. I think the ajp has more modern materials maybe as the aluminium swingarm etc. Hard to say but if it's price only SWM + Arrow.. If not try the ajp.
