It WOULD be really good IF it were all TRUTH! - The reality is - (and I was told this information by my then community psychiatric nurse) - that a 'spin-doctor', (HER words NOT mine!), was employed BY the NHS to announce over on Radio Shropshire, a report about the so-called 'Increased Care in the Community'! - This SAME 'increased care in the community spoken of by THIS 'official' - (Dare I ask if she too is a 'spin-doctor' employed by the NHS?!) - .....Wheras the REALITY, told me BY my CPN (Community Psychiatric Nurse), is that far from being an INCREASE in community care, there is an vast REDUCTION in community care - and that basically, psychiatric patients - OK, SERVICE USERS, are being albut thrown to the wolves! - They have been sent out into the community with very little to NO support.....and my CPN told me also, that this spin-doctor was brought in to make the 'announcement' so that the general public would feel 'safe' with ALL these extra, UN-supported Mental Health Patients in their community! I will also say that, for me, this became a reality less than 18 months later! - Having been 'supported' by the mental health services from the age of 13 years old, with my FIRST admission to Shelton Hospital at 14 years old, and they, Doctors and nurses making ALL my life decisions for me.....3 years ago, a NEW CPN came to my new home to assess my needs, and I will quote you her words here: (YES! They ARE relevant!) She told me: "Well, you've got a nice home now....You are intelligent, and articulate....and therefore you no longer need the support from Mental Health Services" (?!) - (Would LOVE to see her have that conversation with Stephen Fry, the most intelligent guy in Britain, yet who struggles dreadfully with Bi-polar Disorder?!) - HOWEVER, from THAT day to this, after running my life from age 13 until I was 57....I NEVER again had ANT contact with mental health services - NO tailing down gradually.....NO teaching of the life-skills I'd need for independent living......NOTHING! - THIS is the reality of your 'INCREASED CARE IN THE COMMUNITY'!................(And I just wonder HOW long my comment here will be allowed to remain up, before some 'caring' individual decides it is not 'kind' to allow the public to know the ACTUAL TRUTH! - I am ALIVE today, NOT because of the NHS, or The Redwoods, or Mental Health Services - I am ALIVE today, because I have an extremely caring landlady (with NO experience of Mental Illness prior to meeting me!), who regularly scoops me up off the hillside where I live, in storms that NO person should be out in, when I just want to sleep outside on the winter hillside till I DIE....I am ALIVE today, because I have a friend who is a former psychiatric nurse, and who chases all over the countryside to find and bring me home, after I've walked away from ALL I know, and everyone I know, because I can no longer cope with a society I DON'T fit in with, and who DON'T understand me, so I CHOOSE to become a tramp - a 60 year old epileptic female tramp at that, who had a stroke when I was 43! - and feel I can't live in a society that looks at me oddly.....and who's ways I cannot understand!.....And I am ALIVE today, because I have a retired church Pastor, and his wife, and a friend who WAS a church Pastors wife.....and they show me that, DESPITE the NHS, and Mental Health Services washing their hands of me, "because I've got a nice home, and am articulate and intelligent", that my few friends mentioned here DO actually care whether I live or DIE - but, sadly, the Mental Health Services DO NOT! You do NOT have to take MY word for it....ask ANYONE of many many service users in Shrewsbury and Shropshire, and you'll get the same 'unsupported' saga! - In fact, we began to TRY to support each other via FaceBook, because we quickly realised we'd get NO help from mental health services in Shrewsbury! I rest my case - Make of it what you will....but I am telling you, MY version related here is the actual TRUE one - Other than the description of the building in the video above, the rest of this lady's account is PURE FICTION!
Well ah !!!
A difficult story, but important for it to be told
I wonder who won those awards
