Exploring Wolf Lake in Temagami - Solo Canoe Camping - Part 1
Wolf Lake in Temagami is somewhere I hadn't been in many years and a place I had been wanting to go back to. I headed out on a solo canoe trip, anxious to re-explore an area I have always loved. I was surprised at how quiet the area was, and despite hearing gunshots on one of the nights, it was a very peaceful trip. In this adventure I check out Paradise Lagoon, the waterfalls on Wolf, eat some tasty meals and watch a snake devour a frog. It was a great weekend in Temagami, with gorgeous scenery, and if you haven't been to the Wolf Lake area yet, I highly recommend checking it out.

In this video, I make a delicious dessert pizza in a pie iron. I used to make them a lot when car camping with friends in Longpoint, but have never made one in the backcountry. I had to do one small portage with the heavy pie iron, but it was ...

Hi Christina and Tam 👋🏻. Fun times and you get to spend some time together enjoying them! Thanks for sharing.❤
Thanks for watching!😘😘😘
LOL, that snake bit off more than he could chew, but he did it. I have a large snake that lives in my shed, he takes care of any mice that wander in. Thanks for part one, looking forward to the next installment. Be well my friend.
OMG that made me laugh really hard. Thanks so much. I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing your snake story. Cheers!
beautiful scenery, but gotta be honest that the snake/frog kinda grossed me out. That's all on me, though! 😀
I’m so sorry. I will see if I can put some type of a notation to skip that somehow if people want to? I might’ve had to put it in the video before uploading it? But I’ll take a look sorry about that.
@@CamperChristina oh no no no... I'm not upset at all. I'm a full grown adult and capable of looking away from the screen. Merely expressing myself! 😀 Told my beloved wife about this vid and she proceeded to remind me of a time 10-ish years back when we'd been at camp and she'd found a snake doing the same thing but it had started at the other end of the frog and so she could actually hear the poor frog squeaking in fear. She had to walk away to not be able to hear that. Nature is lovely but also kind of brutal at times. Regardless, loving the scenery of Wolf Lake!
All good! Thanks so much for sharing that awesome story. I’m not sure I could watch that either. Poor frog. Cheers !
Wolf Lake is truly a gem of Temagami - there's a magic to the lake, and the region as a whole, that can be felt as soon as you enter the water. We camped at that cliff site a few years back and it was so lovely. We had rabbits running around in circles on the site, and kept us on our toes. Jay was through here solo one week later than this trip - camped at the south end of the lake because all other sites had been taken. Even as busy as it was, the lake was still magic. Looking forward to part 2 :)
Thank you so much for the wonderful comment and for checking out my video. I hope everything‘s back some memories for you, but I know you have your own videos to watch as well. Hopefully, I can check them out soon. Cheers!
@@CamperChristina Oh we were last there before we started our channel, but your video definitely brought back memories! Jay's solo trip video should be up sometime in the fall. Thank you!
Thank you for letting us know how you're doing! Very reality based videos without annoying music, I appreciate that!
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers.
Cool snake!
😊😊😊
How nice , i've been to Wolf Lake mountain snowmobiling it is such a awesome area I could actually see a few of the lakes including Wolf. Love the picture of your canoe sitting at the lake that plaid on it blends nicely with the conifers and lake . a lovely camp spot , beautiful views as well , was that a water snake ? Poor frog lol. looking forward to part 2 . such a beautiful paddle to where you've pitched the camp.
Thank you so much, Sue. I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and I always appreciate your wonderful comments. Cheers.
Nice vid thank you. Great to see footage of that snake, very nice.
Glad you enjoyed it.
the snake didnt want to share its toad...which wasnt in a hole as it turned out...
lol
Super pretty out there!! Bugs didn't look bad!! NatGeo for sure!! J & C
Ok that was totally cool you got that video of the snake!!! Looking forward to the rest of this trip on to Part 2! Wolf Lake is really pretty
I bought a bag of maple sugar flakes (Lantic brand) at Fortino’s. I think they carry them at No Frills, too.
Awesome! I was actually cleaning up my house yesterday and I found the original package from mine. They were Harvest brand from an outfitter. Thanks so much for the info though. It’s great to have other places to get it. Cheers!
That sunset in part 2 was lovely!
Fantastic area. I stayed at that same campsite on wolf the first week of August.
Yayyyy here we gooooo, looking forward to this series. 😊
Thank you !
It is always a pleasure watching your escapades. You are tough and with smiles. Keep it up!
What a thrill to see a moose so close up. Beautiful shot of the moon reflecting on the lake. Pretty neat to wake up to the sound of Sand Hills. What do you think the loons were so upset about? Chip Monks look so cute but boy can they be vicious. Beautiful paddle back to the access.
Thanks!
Thank you so much !!! 💚💚💚
So cool seeing the moose and the loons of course my favourites. The meal with the asparagus looked so delicious, and as always so nice to follow along on your outings❤️
Thank you ! You’re the best !! 😊😊😊
Great views!
Nice weather, nice campsites, and the wildlife is always a big plus, and that full moon was just beautiful. Thanks for sharing your adventure, be well my friend.
Looks like I will bring that knoor meal on my next trip in a few weeks. Hope I see a moose too.

Thanks for the tour of Tim L Christina. Even the knorr noodle mix brought back some good memories.
Thank you Alex. Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers
man did i ever wish i knew of that site off to the left of that rock island. i found a spot on the point just past the third big island with trees. thank goodness. other wise i wouldve had to wait to for nightfall and than navigate the shoreline back to the launch near the main site
Better late than never.. I guess?. Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoyed the video. Cheers.
I love hearing the sandhills! They'll be making their way down here to Texas in a bit.
I’ll send a note that says thanks for commenting. Cheers! Lol
@@CamperChristina 🥰👍🏼
I loved seeing this video. Thanks so much. The moose were amazing. I was just in the bush for five days. I am going back soon but I had a bear swimming across the lake. You don't see too much of them in the water, just the ears waving in the air, but I saw it rising up on the other side of a long crossing. My lake is a very rough lake. I've heard of people coming in here for camping but they never come back. Only occasional fishermen. The campsites are rough and I've had to make them myself, minimally. I had a beaver near my campsite when I returned by canoe. It seemed confused about whether to swim out from shore or go to shore. Finally it slapped its tail and took off. And a loon came up right by my canoe and had total fear in its eyes. Oh I am so sad about that. I have been away too long. They no longer know me.
Awe. They will get to know you again. Most animals can sense when a person is good and kind and you are those things. Thank you so much for the great comment. Wishing you many more amazing adventures! Cheers.
That last mushroom looked like it was glass. Cool.
Love that bug shelter. I clearly need an upgrade, mine is utterly useless! I think it invites more bugs in than it keeps out! Lol
It is definitely one of my most favourite pieces of gear. I even use it when it’s not the bug season. I really like the tarp & how easily it sets up. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Cheers.
Thanks for bringing us along, the mouse story had me laughing. Just an FYI, I spray peppermint oil around my tent and site. It keeps you mice free. Tam seems like a nice person to share the adventure with. Thanks again, be well my friend.
Thanks so much for the pointer. Are you aware that bears are attracted to peppermint? Lol I’ll take my chances with the mice. Hope you are doing well and having a wonderful summer. Thank you for your continued support. I greatly appreciate you. Cheers.
@camperchristina where did you get the map??
Hi Mike. Thanks for the message. I just got out of the backcountry and didn’t have a signal since early Friday morning. The map is from Kevin Callan’s book. I mentioned it a few times in the video series. Possibly you missed it? If you can’t locate it I’ll send you an image of it when I get home. I’m still on the road. Cheers! Message me on the other platform.
awesome video🤗
Thank you ! 😊😊😊
Another great episode... The scenery is so soreal and I can only imagine how relaxing is it just being there... Your love for camping and nature is infectious and you inspire more people to go out and explore this beautiful land. I am sure viewers learn a lot about camping, canoeing and what Ontario has to offer for such enthusiasts like you. Really love your work! Thanks so much for that!
Thank you so very much for the kind words. I appreciate them more than I can say. Cheers!
Always awesome to see the moose i've seen a few , Real nice pictures Tam !, I made a dessert wrap similar but ended up dry inside sadley . Nice big site you checked out yes would be great for those hot humid days . Awesome trip with Tam thanks for bringing us along really enjoyed this .
Thank you so much Sue. How was your dessert wrapped dry? Did you not put enough chocolate in it? I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to come and meet you. I had a bit of a work crisis and the day that I was free you were already gone. I’m also planning back to back to back trips right now so it’s just been crazy busy. I hope you had a wonderful adventure. Cheers.
i did put chocolate chips in but maybe not enough oops and a bit too much peanut butter , we did have lots of the marshmallow . I shall have to try that one again . We sure did have a wonderful time that place and the host were epic . the area gorgeous we did some exploring . saw two young bear crossing one of the back roads I drove down to explore some lakes around the cabin property . Id definitely go back . i took a girl I worked with , she wasn't into a tent . this time .
What you do is incredible. I ride my atv to explore off grid remote locations. But you take it to an entirely different level. Keep up the great content and best of luck on your next journey.
Lol. Thank you so much. This is a super easy trip. Some of the other ones can get pretty gnarly though. I am truly grateful for your comment. Thank you so much. I look forward to hearing from you again. Please don’t take any offence to any comments I make in my videos regarding ATVs. It’s not personal. Lol
@CamperChristina no worries. I have thick skin lol and I respect the heck outta nature and the trails. I bring a garbage bag with me each ride and clean up as much garbage as I can fit into my cargo box. It's the select few that unfortunately ruin it for the rest of us and give us the bad reputation.
Wow! That is so awesome! Thank you for doing that. 😊 Cheers !
