Regional Talanoa Session on Seagrass Conservation in the Pacific
The MACBLUE project on World Seagrass Day, March 1st 2024 organised a regional hybrid talanoa session to celebrate the importance of seagrasses, exchange on conservation practices in the Pacific Islands countries and foster global collaboration for their protection.
Speakers included Dr Shalini Singh, Associate Professor Fiji National University, Mazella Maniwavie, Project Manager, The Nature Conservancy Papua New Guinea, Henry Kaniki WWF Pacific Solomon Islands and Falma Aiviji, Invertebrate Biologist Vanuatu Department of Fisheries.
Opening remarks were delivered by Ms Florence Rahiria, SPC Deputy Director Lands Resources Division and German Ambassador to Fiji His Excellency Dr Andreas Prothmann.
The Management and Conservation of Blue Carbon Ecosystems (MACBLUE) project jointly implemented by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environmental Programme, Pacific Community (SPC), and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ Pacific).
The MACBLUE project work closely with its partner countries - Fiji, Papua New-Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu to meet their priorities in biodiversity conservation and climate protection within coastal ecosystems.

Tuvalu - Community Based Biogas Systems (Pacific Way)

In Tuvalu, GIZ worked with Government to install 40 small-scale biogas digesters which supply free methane gas as a fuel substitute for firewood, kerosene and LPG used in domestic cooking.
