Safest way to Resaw on a Tablesaw

If you don't have a full-sized bandsaw, you'll probably want to resaw (vertically cut) on a tablesaw. This can be dangerous - a vertical workpiece is unstable, and one slip is all it takes to cause injury. This jig clamps the workpiece firmly in the vertical position, and keeps your hands well away from the blade.

    I would pay over $100... If the setup were "fixed" (ie. I didn't have to adjust it to the router table.. some method was used to insure the mounting was correct every time) I would probably pay up to $400. Being able to make accurate dowels out the the same wood stock I'm building a unit with would be enough for me to splurge. It would need to be reliable and durable, though.. as the reason I would spend that is that I would use it with literally every project I used dowels on. I hope you decide to produce one.

    Take a 2 inch piece of 1/4 srlteel flatbar 10 onches long drill a 1/4 inch hole in it if tgats the diameter of dowel you want. Take a dremmel tool with a small thin cut off wheel and make multiple cuts around the 1/4 in hole, both sides. Taper your 5/16 inch square cut piece of wood on both ends. One end goes into your drill the other into the flatbar. Makes killer dowels only takes 10 min top to make and it practically free. Keep it simple n cheap

    You can try to put a drill bit into it to check good placement of the cutter. On mine it was way too close from the axis (about 0,6mm). Indeed, in this case the whole stability is compromise as the dowel is not properly guided which amllify the problem...

    I have a sliding saw idea you have not seen. I am going to build a sliding table for my mark v 510. I should be able to do it in the next few months. I just purchase $300 in router molderbits. I got the bright idea to save my daughter a few bucks. She is a artist and she was bitching about the cost of a canvas. So I started making little frames to stretch the canvas on and gave her 5 or 6 canvases. Then I thought man her art would really look good if it is framed. So to save her a few bucks I had to spend $300. Lol . I love the approach you took on it. I seen a video of a add on slide table and he mounted the rails to the base and the slide blocks under the bottom side of the sled/slider. h=He then had to brace his underside of the table slide. I said man the base needs the bearings and the slide the track & no need to brace the carriage because the rail will. Then I got the idea to build a removable one for the mark V. I like building tool IU use. My profile has a scroll saw and 2x72 grinder I built

While i can't justify $450-$10000, i would definitely break my own arm reaching for my wallet to drop $100 or so on this. • @acanadianwoodworker
      @acanadianwoodworker Před měsícem

      Haha thats so wild! I had half an idea to try reversing but never ended up doing it. I just tried with softwood - there's still tear-out but it was definitely a gentler cut. A little more accurate to its dimension too. I tried with poplar right afterwards but couldn't get it to cut in reverse. Then I tried forward and got a semi-decent cut, probably because the reverse action of the previous dowel sharpened the blade a little. Moral of the story - always try everything!

  • @konradsusiebakalarczyk267

    Great design! Consider the traditional archery market for making arrow shafting. Normally only 3 sizes: 23/64, 11/32 and 5/16.

    Given an upgrade in fit & finish and the inclusion of base that would allow attachment of the jig to an Incra LS positioner (for dust control and 0.001" side to side adjustment) and a set sprockets for various wood sizes... I'd pay in the range of $300 - $400 (U.S.). Keep in mind your competitor for quality dowel finish is the Master Veritas Dowel Maker System (which I own). The veritas master system prices in at roughly $450. Good as the Veritas system is, it is finicky and prone to jamming. The proto-type you've demonstrated appears superior to the Veritas system and far more likely to produce smoother dowels with less effort..

    Kudos on a fantastic design. However if you don't have access to a cnc machine to make one out of aluminum, I wonder if you could use the wooden model with aluminum shaft collar inserts. Seems like it would work although you would have to figure out how to hold them in place securely. Just compression would fail over time so perhaps attaching a thin metal plate with cutouts on the back side slightly overlapping the edges of the collars would hold them in place. You could probably charge up to $110 or so depending on the final design and build quality but I think at $80-85 it would sell like hotcakes to use an antique phrase. Sign me up!

    Agreed, I think CA$ 100 or EUR 100 is a fair price if the product features were properly implemented (vacuum connection). BTW, I would look at your second plate. There is still space for optimization, I think. First of all, the holes should be properly polished or reamed to remove unnecessary friction. Secondly, I would give each hole a rounded entrance, so that the pressure of a tight fit is applied gradually to the dowel as it advances into the hole. I think this could also help to remove chatter.

    The blade is at a scraping position of the red and black jig. It should be positioned at a shearing position for it to work better, it would shear the fibers off instead of “chopping” off the fibers.
