Nice playing

I just found this 30 day challenge for beginners, and it's Day 1 and I'm already confused. In the tabs You have showing 2nd string Open, but it's marked at the top as "G". I thought that was the "B" string. So why would it be marked as "G"?

I'm not a skilled or even somewhat of musician yet and I most certainly am not claiming to be either. However, playing other folk's tablature isn't only wasting my time because I'm not learning anything but to memorize tab which takes me hours,days and often weeks if I accomplish that task at all. Being mediocre at best with someone else's material is NOT my objective. My goal is to write my own lyrics and music. So tonight I put other folk's tab aside and started studying playing and arranging by ear. I'm preparing to make music to a song about my wonderful wife that I'm writing thanking God for using His angel to save me from myself and thanking her for throwing fear and caution to the wind buckling up for the ride. Yes all of this is scary and frustrating but I refuse to give up this time and I will accomplish my goal! You sir are helping me tremendously!

The fact that this course is free is crazy. You're doing so much good offering this comprehensive Banjo 101 course. I am having way more progress than I thought I would by this point. I'm excited for day 30 and look forward to more of your lessons.

I’m sorry if I’m coming across as rude!!! I’m not trying to be negative . Thank you for your time, but you’re ridiculous if you think a beginner like me could learn anything from your speedy lesson. Key word BEGINNER!!! You didn’t even slow down enough to teach how to put the darn picks on a finger. So you lost me at finger picks!! Good luck fellow banjo goers!

My fingerpicks came with a metal thumb pick. do I need a plastic?

I am nearing 60 years old and like many here, have never played anything with strings. Brass while in highschool many, many years ago. I have been drawn to the banjo since childhood. I watched Flatt and Scruggs on the Beverly Hillbilly show and the dreams took it from there. Now I have the time to practice and get more serious. The dream is still alive. I am on day 10 of this course and will be supporting you through your patreon (You earned it !) Im learning slow as the first 10 days has taken me over a month. I am still slow (Not near up to tempo but my play is consistant and clear. I wanted to thank you for this series as I am not sure I could have done this any other way. Your are talented not only on the Banjo but as a teacher as well. Keep up the great work

Phew. I'm sweating a bit after this one. I think I'm going to have to spend a day or three in practice on this bit. I was getting the rolls down for the last couple days to the point I could mostly do it with my eyes closed (just to get the feel). Fretting smoothly/accurately is definitely a weak point for me, but I'm determined. Thanks, Eli! Been watching your content and starting out since two weeks ago.
