Got lucky these past few outings spotting a few heritage locomotives on different occasions on the Hartford Line.
00:00 - Around 7:28am Amtrak Regional No. 143 (with Heritage Unit 125) arrives at its second to last stop on diesel before the electric switch.
02:00 - At 8:20am Hartford Line Train No. 6400 zooms past the other side of Devine Street crossing.
02:24 - Northbound Amtrak Vermonter No. 54 with Heritage Unit 125 slapped on the front (after being taken off Regional 143 earlier that day)
02:36 - Partially missing Amtrak Hartford Line No. 465 at a new spot in North Haven behind Big Y Supermarket on Washington Ave
02:45 - Southbound CT Rail Hartford Line led by diesel 6708 on a gloomy afternoon.
03:30 - Northbound CT Rail No. 6454 led by Mafersa coach and a clean RS2M horn normally heard on Metro North lines.
05:12 - Northbound Vermonter No. 54 on a Saturday afternoon passing through Wallingford Station. (Apologies for the audio clipping and distortion here. I had my mic levels too high).

Topstone is another quiet, bucolic spot, with the old cider mill alongside. Occasional car at the crossing. It's also the summit of the branch.

I highly recommend getting a tripod shots were a little weird cause of the way whoever was filming used the zoom on the device
Yeah I was trying to use the "action mode" feature on my iPhone which is supposed to stabilize the camera but it doesn't work as well as I'd like it to.
Also, I got stopped by a state trooper at this location which is why I don't use a tripod often - makes it less obvious. Yet there was a 10 year old filming with his tripod and neither he nor his Dad were questioned by the police.

CT-2 not the Fresh Pond train. Only 25 short hoppers, the FP train hoppers are longer and often exceeds 90 cars.

This is train CT-2, loaded with stone, westbound. Cedar Hill yard to Danbury via (reversing at) South Norwalk.
The Danbury branch is a long, curving upgrade. Rises up over 400 ft in about 14 miles between SoNo and Topstone (town of Redding). Then descends another 60 or so from there into Danbury. So the end with the 2 P&W units will pull up the hill, while the single rear unit pushes where/when needed. Both ends are crewed, this is not a DPU. The train returns back to CH with empties, clearing the Metro North lines well before AM rush.

2:27 that flew by me at a crossing the other day. First time seeing it. Once it passes though, and you go over the tracks, it’s out of freaking site. Totally 110 MPH

Is there any security checks before getting on train? My hometown station barely had 1 person working the Amtrak and people just got on with no problem. Wondering how early I need to arrive if I need to go through security and all
There are no airport-like security gates at Penn-Moynihan (or GCT/GCM). The only check might be on a train to Montreal, but that’s usually at the border and it’s an immigration/citizenship check.
@@davidthaler7018just got back! Took the train from Slidell, LA (one stop after New Orleans) all the way to NY, spent a week there then went back! Was curious of the security admittedly to know if I can bring my vape and what not on. It’s a little scary the lack of security at all, you can bring an entire suitcase full of illegal things and no one would know 😂 But it was such an amazing time

Yes but the point is that no one knows to go there. There are no signs listing that as an alternative boarding place. Everyone’s directed to the main concourse. Your best bet, ironically, is to board from the original location across the street.
