Hey, we're a couple who quit our jobs to try and travel around the world on a budget!
We're currently on an adventure backpacking through south east Asia.
We both had a burning desire to see as much of our beautiful planet as we possibly could and made it our number one ambition to turn our dream into a reality. It's hard but we think we're slowly doing it. Neither of us come from wealthy backgrounds and we have to grind to make it happen.
We wanted to share our journey, mainly for our own enjoyment - but there is also the added incentive of trying to prove that you really can achieve anything if you put your mind to it.
We could never have dreamed that the prospect of travelling around the world without a huge amount of money was possible, but we're out to show that it is. And hopefully we can inspire you to do it too!
Please come along for the ride with us!

A couple of years or so ago, a Korean tourist did something foolish on Train Street and was hurt. They closed down Train Street for a while after that. It's now only allowed if you are invited by a cafe owner (which means you should order a drink and/or food while there). The fact that you have to be invited by the cafe owner means it limits how many people are allowed on the tracks as the owners are responsible for their patrons. If they had opened it up to the general public with it's recent popularity, imagine the crowds that would gather and the chaos that would ensue...and imagine a train going through with crowds loitering around. Very dangerous.
I´m so so lucky that I´ve got the chance to live in Bergen! Nice video :)
Ahh amazing! Not jealous at all haha 😅 Thank you 🙏☺️
The street where you had dinner is Jalan Alor. A famous food street. Not the cheapest, and not the best, but a good experience.
Thank you, yeah we kinda stumbled on it by accident to be honest, with no prior research or planning! Sometimes that’s the best way really 😀
@@BenandMarnie A great expreence, I'go back in a heartbeat and hopfully will.
@@BenandMarnie Cheers for the reply. Enjoy as much longan fruit and mangosteen as you can. Following vicariously.
It's hard to beat the atmosphere of Hanoi. Reminds me of a bit of Marseille, France with the narrow streets and old French architecture, but then you have the buzzing energy of Southeast Asia, people hanging out absolutely everywhere (life happens on the streets, not inside), quaint and cute cafes and shops, activity and action everywhere you look. Normally you get that type of energy in massive cities like Bangkok or NYC but the fact that you get it in such a serene looking place that looks like the Southeast Asian South of France with lots of greenery everywhere that makes it look like out of another world is pretty mind boggling.
Great summary! It really is such a lively place. Almost too overwhelming if you’re easily stressed haha 😅 But you’re absolutely right, a truly remarkable place!
what's the name of the apartment?
The Colony and the Luxe ☺️
Europe's most scenic train routes are in Switzerland
Switzerland is certainly on our bucket list. Looks absolutely incredible 😍
That's a matter of opinion. One thing is for certain Switzerland doesn't have the northsea juxtaposition
Yeah, trains in Norway has been notoriously shit ever since the last train "reform". I'm sorry you had to experience that, but happy you made the best of it.
Ahhh that’s interesting! Seems like rail travel/ownership/system is an issue in a few European countries these days. We absolutely made the most of it though - the views were a major part of why we wanted to take the train ☺️
Hi, accidentally stumbled on your video and enjoyed it quite a lot! It's very interesting to see my country from the visitor's point of view. I was born and grew up in Riga. If you come to Latvia again, try not to limit yourself only with visiting Riga. I would recommend also the Gauja National Park and Kemeri National Park as good examples for Latvia's nature and also historical/cultural heritage. Both National parks are easily accessible by train or bus and only within 50-80 km from Riga. I saw also a suggestion in the comments about the Brīvdabas muzejs. It is technically within the boundaries of Riga (you can go there by the city tram and then walk about 10 min. to get there). Beter to visit that in summertime. Thanks again for such a beautiful picture of our Capital!
Ah thank you so much! That’s cool, we loved your hometown ☺️ We will 100% be coming back to Latvia again in future! Thank you so much for the recommendations, we know that one day is nowhere near long enough to see such a beautiful country. We cannot wait to explore more when we do return 😍
Why so many people coming to Bergen forget to visit the really amazing Fantoft wood church? It s surely one of the top3 of the "must-see" in Bergen.
We’ve not heard of this before! We only had a few days but we loved Bergen so much, we will be coming back to Norway soon. Added to the list of things to see! Thank you so much for the recommendation ☺️
Fantoft stave church is rebuilt after a fire, so it’s not old. To see a more than 800 year old stave church you should visit Borgund outside of Lærdal in Sognefjorden. Or the beautiful Urnes stave church (built in year 1130) in Lustrafjorden.
@@torilflores563 wow, incredible, also added to the list of places to visit 😀 thank you! We just absolutely love Norway in general 😍

16:37 in malaysia, if you didnt finish your food u can ask for a take-away they will pack the left over for you (most of the time if you only eaten 1/3 ..maybe 1/2 of your portion.. depending on the amount or size) and you can continue eating it at your place or keep in in the refrigerator for tomorrow
Thank you, we’ve done that quite a few times on our journey when the portion sizes are so big 😅 Definitely not complaining as it makes two meals! 😍
Hanoi is amazing, we were lucky with Train street, just walked in but we had been told it's no go. We didn't want to wait for the train. The lake is lovely in the evening, lovely atmosphere. Thanks for posting your vlogs.
Glad to hear you got lucky with the train street! I think maybe it's way more hectic when a train is due to come (mainly for health and safety reasons). The lake is really nice indeed! Ahh glad you enjoyed watching, thank you :)
Yeah. It’s very much a major tourist hotspot now. People like us probably don’t help! It’s just fascinating to see I guess, and it’s a pretty street. But I imagine it’s a shame for locals that it’s become this way!

Hey Ben and Marnie, I’m an old school friend of Gary, your Dad Marnie. I’ve been following your escapades and I have some questions about Vietnam. My daughter will be visiting Vietnam very shortly and she’s wondering if credit/debit cards are widely used or not? Is it best to take cash? If so do you recommend exchanging before travelling or in Vietnam? Looking forward to your reply. Thanks, Robin
Hey Robin! Ahh that's so cool, thank you for following along :) Awesome, hope she has a great time! In terms of the money situation, you need cash most of the time. A few places accept card but will often charge a 3% fee to use it. You could change up some cash before travelling, but my advice would be to get an international bank account beforehand that doesn't charge you transaction fees when abroad. We use Starling, for example, but Monzo also works the same way. Then when she is in Vietnam, she can withdraw cash from an ATM without paying international fees. Always select 'no' on the cashpoint if it asks whether you want to convert the currency from GBP to VND as you'll get an awful exchange rate. Just withdraw Vietnamese Dong without the conversion. That way, you are getting the best value for money as Starling just withdraws the exact amount at the best exchange rate. Hope this helps, let us know if you have any other questions. More than happy to advise however we can! :)
@@BenandMarnie Thanks so much for the advice. Hope you enjoy the rest of your travels. Looking forward to the next video 👏👏👏

Great work 😊 thanks for sharing dear friend 👌 😊
Thank you so much as always 🙏😀
The train spot is not really easy to catch up with so I totally understand, they have some specific rules. You will have to be with a coffee shop in order to get into the rail (their staff would recruit you into their cafe as you enter the road, so pretty much you don’t have much options at that time), and most of the trains come thru go pretty late at night (7-10pm) and just a few during the day, so morning is not an ideal time. And only the cafe owners know if there be a train coming so you can come in and ask them the time then comeback. Pretty chill spot late night tho, at the end it’s just for your safety as tourists in the area has grown a lot.
Yeah we slowly figured out how it all worked! We have to say, the night time was definitely the best experience we had ☺️ And straight away, we realised how big a tourist attraction it has become, so the safety measures are understandable. A little stressful but still good fun 😀
The digital arrival form is electronically connected to your details on the immigration system in Malaysia. They can see the details on there screen so no need to ask for it
