As LNER1995 said this is not it's final colour; it's really just an undercoat as the old garter blue was beginning to rust in the museum; so it's really a new coat of Garter Blue :) In a way it's kinda like Henry sees Red :P

this is only a primer on mallard it was only like this for 3 hours while it was outside then it went in to be sanded down (otherside sanded and primed) ready for next coat its going back into the garter blue its known for

if im honest i like the war time black on both scotsman and mallard what i cant stand on scotsman is its in black and it has german smoke deflector ironic or what and also when she was first unveiled she had single chimney with no deflectors and she looked good its double chimney and deflectors ruin the colour

she is going back into garter blue as she was. shes only getting a repaint as her paint was flaking and there was rust tat needed sorting out

i wish they would've said that the flying scotsman's black coat was a primer as well.. i cant stand that colour on her :(

actually its heritage painting doing it and they stripped it right the way back to bare metal and filled in smoothed they just havnt done the other side yet only the valances and tender on the blue side and thanks :P
