    Well Sir, you have at the very least, one thing going for you. You have a great selection of root stock to graft to. Seeing as this was two years ago (I see that sugar apple there by the way!, very nice), what are their progress? Did you get a few cuttings to graft to them? There are a couple trees that I have growing here in Zone 10A in Florida, and the Golden Dorsett Apple is, in my opinion, the best apple to grow when you don't have many (or any) chill hours. So far, they are only apple that I have grown here that does well enough to keep. I haven't tried to grow my own variety of apple, which is what you are doing by planting seeds. You would probably want to do so from a few types of common apples that have a chance at all in your area to grow anything for you. While I would never tell you to stop, as you should try, and if you keep doing so, who knows how well you might succeed? A zero chill hour apple that grows true to seed would be a really nice option to have! Keep on them, and I wish you only the best of luck and success! For your leaf issues, I'd suggest a good misting of 1% Hydrogen Peroxide (You can get 3% and just cut it 1:3 with water). Put it in a spray bottle and let rip, in the evening (no full sun with the H2O2 on the leafs), you seem to have a rust fungus on them. You can get something else that's more fungicidal if you like seeing as you don't have to worry about fruit for now. But, I'm no apple expert. Just another guy trying to grow things that aren't suited to my zone.

      I saw one of your trees in a video. You need to induce horizontal growth of your branches. Check out the work Kuffle Creek has done in Uganda with apple trees to stop apical dominance. Because of our tropical conditions apple trees will be forever growing upward and onward. Proper pruning back of the top can fool the tree in to thinking that it has reached its peak and it will start producing lateral branches that can be encouraged by notching. If you want loads of fruit buds on your trees train the branches when they come out by tying them down

  • @survivalfarming7111

    Another fantastic accomplishment! What time of year do your trees go dormant or do you defoliate them to induce it?

    • @barbadosappleproject5125
      @barbadosappleproject5125 Před rokem

      I tried the defoliating. In the tropics these trees dont go dormant. You have to induce it somehow

    Just a bit of a warning from a person who lives in NY state where most of the exported apples come from. The seeds in an apple will produce a tree. But that tree will not produce the same type of apple you bought. All production apples are clones from trees that were selected for special characteristics. You may or may not get a delicious apple. You could get a disgusting apple and you won't know for many years. But as I am living in the Dominican Republic now I am curious how you will trick the tree into flowering as in my experience it requires a period of cold temperatures.

      Pink lady apples grow in Nigeria, a friend of mine shared his video on it on Facebook, I don't know much about it but he mentioned something about grafting, he said they're a tropical variety .

    • @TheStaggpaul
      @TheStaggpaul Před rokem

      @@tammygallant6004 yes grafting is a form of cloning when you take your desired clone type and cut it into a root stock plant. It is essentially two different apple trees but only the grafted portion will produce the fruit. Funny enough, you can graft a pear tree, apple tree and a peach tree onto the same root stock plant. You will end up with one tree but 3 different fruits. Happy gardening!

    Apple grow from seed taste horrible! They are practically inedible! You might as well quit now and not waste more of your time growing them.

      I know most apples grown by seed turn out to be crab apples but apart from getting blessed and getting that new variety of apple (know chances are slim), I am also experimenting with growing apples in the tropics. I am expecting some Wambugu apples from Kenya soon and the science is telling me that you can train apple trees to fruit in the tropics. This is where I am going with this project ultimately
