Those dope credits are all Saul Bass, who pretty much invented kinetic typography and the idea of dynamic opening credits that set up a film in tone or story. He also did the credits in North By Northwest and Vertigo, as well as The Man With The Golden Arm, Walk on the Wild Side, and Anatomy of a Murder, and lots of other iconic sequences. One of my favorite hip hop songs, Jumping Coffin by Aesop Rock, has the fantastic line describing peak game-changing skill with an artform as “like an alphabet to Saul Bass”

The bit at the end with Stella was another gory joke - he said that whatever used to be buried in the garden was found in a hatbox in the apartment (so, probably her severed head) and did Stella want to see it. She said “No thanks, I don’t want any part of her,” then realized what she said - pause for laughter.

2:00 - HENRY HANK FONDA - I’m reminded of a story told by Henry Fonda during an interview about the movie ‘Once Upon A Time In The West. Fonda had already won the role and turned up on day one, ready for filming, wearing custom-built brown contact lenses to disguise his intense baby blues, and his beard and mustache were cut Mexican bandit style. Upon witnessing the transformation, Leone asked Fonda for an explanation. Never having played a ‘baddie’ before, Fonda stated he created the look to appear as menacing as possible. Leone told Fonda to remove the contact lenses and facial hair. When Fonda asked why? Leone told him. ‘Imagine the scene… Moments before Frank’s (Fonda’s character) appearance on screen, the audience witnesses the murder of a man and his three children on his ranch. Then, the big reveal happens. The audience is stunned when they immediately recognize the face of the man responsible now filling the cinema screen. It’s not some random ‘bad guy’, it’s bloody Henry Fonda.’ In under five seconds, the most widely accepted ‘good guy’ in American cinema became, arguably, one of the most ruthless, calculating, cold-blooded kill-for-money, kill-for-sport, cruelest gang leaders ever put to celluloid.’ Fonda agreed.

my theory: the horror does not really happen. it's all in jack's head. more to the point, it's the novel he's writing. keep in mind the caretaker's daughters were 8 and 10, but we get twins - the real horror inspired jack's story

My father (RIP) many years ago had an original pre-cert version of this movie (UK) amongst a small collection of vhs tapes he had gotten I think from a local video store that sold older well used movies cheap, he'd watch it quite often, even I had sat in and watched it a few times, years later he sadly sold his small collection of pre-cert movies pretty cheap for some reason, after a while I decided once I got my own money to buy a new copy of it, I sat put it on and low and behold it was cut to pieces, especially the ending he fires once and thats it, I was amazied I even thought I had imagined the original ending, just recently I spotted and bought a copy of the 4k version of the movie and was totally blown away by how amazing it looked and also included alot of the missing and cut scenes!

I read the book in college and then we all saw the movie. We ALL felt it for Boobie Miles when it hit that car scene after leaving the locker room. The unnecessary pressure these kids have on them in places like that where Football was considered basically it's own religion.....it is BEYOND reprehensible. I understand having something for kids to be a part of and it's great seeing the community rally behind them and all .......BUT......it doesnt mean they have to enable them with blindly passing them in classes when they should be putting in just as much work as everyone else, allowing them to part take in underage drinking, telling them they are in good health when in all actuality they need medical attention......these are still KIDS

One of the greatest movies ever IMO. Jodie Foster had to visit a psychologist prior to filming to make sure she was able to go through it emotionally intact. I'm not a filmmaker but I do know that to keep the movie from getting an X rating due to the realistic blood, post production 2 sections of the final reel were removed and desaturated by some chemical process.

*I got to see the original film as a kid back in the days when you could see a movie not for kids as long as you had adults with you. The film was so iconic to me, 20 years later I thought a sequel would be blasphemy & sully my memory of the original movie. I had TWO opportunities to go see the sequel, once with my girlfriend & next with that same friend from childhood who's parents took us to see the first movie & I turned down his offer. After finally watching it with another friend who's just as big a fan of the original as I was. He simply said "trust me" & I was blown away at how great this movie was. It wasn't just a re-tread of the original classic & there was more character growth, even from a reprehensible character like Begbie who I saw as pure evil in the first movie I kind of felt a sense of guilt for just dismissing him as a monster. I was a kid what did I know? But this is one of the few sequels that didn't disappoint. Whilst it didn't surpass the original, it did make itself stand as a worthy sequel.*
