Longines Restoration - A Fallschirmjäger's Golden Gift
This time I restore a beautiful, and somewhat weirdly designed, Flagship watch by Longines. The watch has recently spent several years trapped behind a chest freezer but was eventually rediscovered by an old British Army colleague of mine, Sandy Carrick-Buchanan.

Sandy received this impressively finished Longines Flagship from his Godfather who was a German gentleman called William (Wilhelm) Suckro. William had served as a Fallschirmjäger in World War Two, had been captured and ended up living his post war life in Scotland.
The Longines Calibre 340 in this Flagship model has many design approaches which are different from other watches of the period and in these video I show each of these.

Thank you for your service, great restoration
Great review. Nothing wrong with smelling the box 😂
great video, 😉looks like you lost all the numbers on the bottom chronograph dial perhaps it's the way the light was hitting the dial. 😱 also, i kept hearing a loud ticking noise like a really loud clock or a super loud quartz watch in the background, perhaps it's just me. 🙄the kind of ticking that an old world 💣would make.🤭😂
Missouri is such a wonderful place to visit, great find!
i enjoyed your video sir
Thank you for the video. I am currently having my Rolex Date overhauled for the second time. My wife bought it for me in 1977.
This reminds me of the old WW2 poem called ‘Naming of Parts’ … czcams.com/video/mD4cH2uowrw/video.htmlsi=UFd-alPViBxf0gi0
I came from the classic car world before entering watchmaking so maybe I approach things a bit differently but for rusty movements like this, after I remove the calendar disk I'd soak the entire movement in evaporust 24-48 hours before even attempting disassembly. It is not acidic like vinegar and will not harm the rhodium plating, which gives the best possible chance of disassembly without broken screws or other parts. I wish I could convey this to all professional watchmakers.
Repair perfectly
Well done You! I'm sure The Colonel is well pleased.
50s era submariners are awesome. The milsubs are holy grails, fetching more of a premium. I’d feel honored to work on one. Lucky you 😊
You are very good watch maker
It's a great to watch
Stunning
Hi, this is one excellent video on g10. A question: I have one G10 with an acrylic crystal (CWC), is it possible to replace it with a sapphire one? If so, can you please show how, or just point me where to get sapphire crystal which would fit, it would make one already excellent watch a true masterpiece. Thanks.
Good video, I love Horology! But what caught my ear was I served on the same operations as you, Granby with 7 Bde and Grapple 3. Maybe we met, I like to think so! Keep up the good work whatever!
How do you remember what screw goes where? The screws have to be different lenghs.
Hi Richard, I've recently inherited my Father's Logine watch and can't find the exact model online. It was his everyday watch so somehow we never talked about it, only his other 2 Omega watches. But I chose the Longines one which looks like the one in yiur video with a separate second hand (sundial?) Any info gratefully received 👍
Way more than a nice watch.
Is a pity that you did not change the dial for a new one and the date wheels as well
Whats the tool called for separation of the links?
How much do you charge for watch restoration?
Thanks for the video, but I really can't believe that you didn't have the patience needed to release that rusted screw the second time. Penetrating oil soak, and a soldering iron would have given you what you wanted.
Well done, but the music makes this harder to watch than it would otherwise be.
I have a 1980 Seiko quartz. It was a gift for my high school graduation. Still runs.
Good
这是一个好表
I refuse to buy a rolex until I'm at ease with the fact that it will become an everyday watch
But we'll be Rolex day
Brilliant job on a lovely time piece.
Why would you wear a watch like this on a work site, more money then sense that’s for sure
Well now, on the strength of this review alone, i have just ordered one from Casio UK. They offered a 10 percent discount voucher. (I’d rather get one direct from the company than via an amazon or ebay 3rd party trader.) i realised that everything i have in the house - with a clock - is a computer or iPhone or iPad. There is a clock on the gas cooker but it’s cumbersome to drag it around when the internet is down or the phone needs charging or there’s a power cut. I can’t see any reason to spend more. (Not until I win a Euromillions jackpot anyway!)
I’m just curious if there is a watch repair that has ever really challenged you, seems this one was a little too easy for you. One thing that always amazes me is despite how difficult it is working on a watch, the videography of the repair is exceptional. Really feels like I’m there with you looking over you shoulder.
That’s scary if one tried to do it themselves.
Good
❤❤❤❤❤
Amazing work! How did you start learning this profession?
nice one! .
example because its a copy of the original maker clock its an example
saying cathal like he's from the far east ffs 😂 simple name to pronounce mate

I have a 1980 Seiko quartz similar to that in gold. It was my high school graduation gift. Still runs.
How the hell do you remember where all the bits and pieces go?
My comment may not be interesting, but it is heartfelt. I sincerely enjoyed watching such amazing talent and knowledge.
Fantastic review!!
