WANDERER If you but knew me, insolent youth, you would spare me your insults! Your threats sorely distress me, who am so close to you. I have always loved your radiant race, but my raging fury also gave you cause for fear. You that I love so, glorious hero, do not rouse my wrath today: it would ruin both you and me! Such incredible tone, range, and EXPRESSION, both vocal and physical! I had the great honor of seeing him perform in the 70’s. It was unforgettable!
simply excellent, wonderful
Beautiful by maestro James Levine sir.
UNA JOYA IRREPETIBLE !!!! MARAVILLOSO !!!!!
Herrlich ! Aber wann war diese Aufnahme getan ?
Schrecklich! Horrible!
That's not how he should be dressed. There were no such clothes in ancient times
This is one of those "re-interpreted" productions i.e. the settings are changed from the original context, in this case the era of the industrial revolution. That's why Alberich looks more like an 18th century mine owner. These re-interpreted productions are often hit-and-miss, not to mention controversial. This one's decent I guess, there's far worse out there!
@@jmwoods190 I have seen one in real life and it was awful. I could not understand what was happening on stage. It was also sung in German, which would make sense if it was in Germany, but I am Swedish and can't speak German. They should make it look exactly like how Wagner wanted, and they should sing in Swedish when it is played in Sweden.
Der Doppelgänger has been called the greatest of Schubert's 600-odd songs, which makes it among the greatest songs of all time.
Absolutely fantastic!!!
Birgit Nilsson as Brunnhilde, Gottlob Frick as Hagen, and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau as Gunther. What a cast!
Anyone else watch this once a week when you just need a lift
The "wobble" in Frick's big dark bass makes his Hagen wonderfully evil.
Beautiful brass ❤ best version of all
See you and Victor Borge in the cosmos, Professor!
I like the Johann Sebastian version better - maybe it's just because that's what I'm used to hearing. :-(
What year was this?
Thank you for sharing 🙏🏼
Insuperable!!!!
This is total Hardcore ❤
Ernst, dramatisch. Hotter ist auch als Holländer unübertroffen.
SO refreshing to hear singing that is on pitch, in fact even a bit over. She was one of the loveliest people I ever met. What a great artist!
Love this lieder expressing in large Mahler's own feelings, wonderful performance
I find Siegmund much more interesting.
Im confused, wheres the part where he rejects some maidens advances three times and surfs away as the vine booms drop??
I was there!
Wagner Richard , orgoglio e bandiera della cultura musicale tedesca.😌
Exactly what Wagner wanted!
Goosebumps , the absolute best recording of the Ring. Amazing~!
Bravo
It's like reading a revolutionary new essay where even the conjunctions are quotations from something else.
I love that Solti gave us as much or more intensity in his conducting than he wouldve given us in the concert or opera house in the recording studio.
And Frick was pushing age 60 in this recording. Love their body language - totally freed from the conventions of opera acting, they ARE the music.
Now THAT is how it's done! A total commitment and complete embodiment of Ortrud in voice, temperament and execution. Thrilling and blood-curdling, brava!
HUGE.
Magnífic !
Yannick sucks
Hope he uses a strong deodorant

I agree . Folks who didn't hear Rysanek live in the opera house will find it hard to assess her greatness from video clips. It is no secret she had pitch issues , especially after she went through a short vocal crisis in the early 1970s. I can empathize with those who struggle to like her singing because of this on the video clips available. However her voice could be gorgeous in the theatre, full toned and open up thrillingly on top notes. She had incredible temperament on stage. A mixture of both a fearless and disciplined actress. I suspect that had she not had that intensity her career would not have lasted so long. She was unique and her audiences will never forget her dedication and the hypnotic spell she could weave over them.
Wonderful ! Thanks !
Wonderful!!
Conductor Paul Kletzsky
This is amazing and well done!
Was für ein Dokument. Trotz Studioatmosphäre fast Bühne. Schaurig schön, spannend, "nachtschwarz".. Vielen, vielen Dank!!!
