Professor Mark Scott AO, Vice-Chancellor and President, The University of Sydney
This week, Prof Scott reflects on learning and leading. Hear what he would change to support student success (equitable accomodation and financial pressure, and helping students master AI for their own learning.) Diving into his own undergraduate journey, Judyth and Mark discuss the ingredients of a critical “transformational experience”, namely, students must become “more interested in their studies, make friends, have broadening experiences, and find mentors and guides and coaches who can chat to them along the way.”
As a leader, Prof Scott first asks us to consider the immense power of a blank page every morning. Anything but a linear career, Professor Mark Scott has held senior roles in Government, has been Managing Director of the ABC, senior editorial and journalist for major media, and alongside his current role as Vice-Chancellor and President at The University of Sydney, he is Chair of the Group of Eight universities.

I sent this to the Minister for Indigenous Australians. It is no surprise that I have not received a reply in months. Dear Minister As a representative of the Australian people and the Minister for Indigenous Australians can you please explain for me how adding the proposed wording into the Constitution (which is a document for ALL Australians) for the benefit of approximately 4% (based on the latest census data) of Australians based on race is not inherently racist? Surely enshrining anything in the constitution that provides a benefit for a small minority whilst not providing the same benefit for the majority is discrimination just as surely as if the situation were reversed? What is your government doing to ensure that the 30 million dollars already being spent annually is reaching the people on the ground who need it the most? Can you please explain why only 4 or so of the 19 Closing the Gap targets are anywhere near being met and why the others are not? Surely, if these targets are not getting met, then mere words in another document will do little to really help our fellow Australians. I look forward to your reply

However, once you are enrolled, you can definitely use Studiosity to get those assignments done, or for any tricky concepts you're getting stuck on. 👌

Hi Phil, yes Studiosity is an online service. By its very nature, in order to connect with subject specialists in an online classroom on-demand, or upload a document for feedback, you have to be online. Most people can get online from anywhere with their phones/devices these days. We do have a mobile app, which you can download from either the Apple or Play stores as well. If you'd like to learn more about what Studiosity does or the institutions that partner with us, you can check it out here: www.studiosity.com/howitworks

Absolutely. This unprecedented situation, despite the complex challenges, offers all involved in education, teachers, school leaders and policy makers alike a unique opportunity to forge new understandings of how to promote student learning and leadership. The model of education prior to the pandemic certainly wasn't working for everyone in England. This is our chance to rethink classroom learning, assessment and what schools are for. Our children and young people have much to tell us I am sure..

Hi @evan. We're sorry to hear you had a negative experience with Studiosity. We have very stringent Quality Assurance processes in place to ensure that students experience a consistency of quality as they use the service, no matter who reviews your work. When you're unsatisfied with a Specialist's feedback, you can leave a rating and review to let them know why, and it is flagged with our QA team to investigate why the feedback wasn't up to scratch. I hope this helps. Best wishes with your studies!
