A short BTS from our time with Fujifilm's then unreleased XF150-600mm zoom.
It rained almost all day, almost but we did eventually find some sun. A bit of BTS that didn't quite make the final cut for my video review of Fujifilm's wonderful XF150-600mm zoom lens.

    Excellent video! Does capture one on iPad allows to save photos directly on an external drive while tethering? As I'm assuming that one port on the USB dongle can be used to connect an external drive, something like the samsung T7. iPad memory can get full very quickly when shooting 100s of RAW photos for a commercial job, trying to figure out a solution for that..thanks!

      So bad news, no is the short answer. You can't at the moment save directly to an external SSD through Capture One while tethering, only to device. It is something we asked about early on but no update yet is that will happen, I'll ask my contact to see whats up. I know Cascable allow setting or external storage to save to so it is possible. Best workaround in Capture One Mobile is to export originals after a session to an external SSD & you don't need to disconnect your camera, just select the images you want and export originals>Export & then pick save to files. There you will see any attached storage options. This works with a USBc hub. I guess you can then delete that images on your ipad to free up space as you need? I'd not be happy deleting anything before a solid backup is don't though so... Ideally running the session to an external SSD would be great both for storage space and portability between location and studio for editing but thats in the future (hopefully).

    Hi Kim, great video. I shoot a lot of products with a boom arm. I do recommend attaching a counter weight on the furthest tripod leg opposite the camera. I use gym arm bands that can be up to 1kg each get from Decathalon or alike. I'm a sucker for safety as many products I shoot are extremely valuable, so I always use a camera neck strap on the camera body and connect it to the boom arm using wire. That way if the camera did accidently fall of the tripod head it wouldn't fall onto the product. I find also geared tripod head with three way movement extremely helpful when shooting downwards. Also some zoom lenses do not hold their focal length when the barrel is pointing downwards. i also setup everything and test shoot before placing the product. I always shoot to a laptop, but curious how fast the RAW's import into the ipad when tethering. I'm shooting with GFX100s. I think a remote trigger is also useful in this situation.

    • @kimfarrelly
      @kimfarrelly Před 3 měsíci

      Thought I mentioned a counter weight in the outside leg but perhaps not. That’s lots of extra helpful advice there, the more the better. The speed of transfer is good to the iPad Pro, almost instant from the GFX100s using my tether tools cable. The cameras usb port is 3.1 speed so much slower that the thunderbolt speed the iPad allows but still more than fast enough. And with live view you can trigger the shutter as well as change settings in the camera from the iPad. Nice. See the next video for that live view in action.

    Hi Kim, may I ask your what resolution has your monitor you working with in this video? I have an issue with Live View mode.. I have successfully connected my Fuji XT-4 with Capture One Pro on a laptop Acer Concept D with 4K monitor... everything works fine except Live View mode.. In Live view mode I have a very small preview (approx like a credit card) and it is not possible to work with such a small preview. I can zoom it, but then the quality becomes awful.. Currently in contact with Capture One support about 2 weeks, they suggested to try some things, to reset some settings, preferences etc.. but nothing works.. The last thing they wrote were - Fuji cameras are sending a small resolution image to Live view (1024x768) on the contrary to other cameras who are sending full image size... But I also tried to connect on my old laptop which is not 4K (Full HD 1080), preview seems bigger but still not that quality that I see in video Do you have any idea where can be the problem?

    Hi Kim, I've been using Phocus for years with my Hasselblad H4D and it is indeed great software. Due to the Hasselblad being End Of Life, I switched to FujiFilm GFX 50SII. Nice camera and it came across my mind to tether it using Phocus in the way you describe in you video. Not really wanting to pay for software licences when not needed. And as you show, it DOES work There are a few disadvantages compared to tethering from the Hasselblad.(unless I didn't find the right way to solve them yet) 1) the Fuji Raw format RAF is not supported in Phocus as far as I can see (yes, I know you shoot Jpeg 🙂 ) 2) modifications in Phocus to an already made photo are not applied on the next shot. That's a pitty as it can save a lot of work. Tethering directly from the H4D to Phocus does that. Allowing to view all pictures with the settings specified (like grayscale and clarity) Thanks for the video, it confirms that creativity is not only in the pictures themselves... 🙂 Regards, Guy Bauwens (Belgium)

    • @kimfarrelly
      @kimfarrelly Před 4 měsíci

      Hi Guy, thanks for the nice comment. I was happily surprised to find Phocus working well, the good news is it will allow editing of Fuji rafs (Raw), but there is one thing to change on your camera, you need to shoot uncompressed raw. I’ll have another look at seeing if the settings can follow the next image, but there are so few settings it might not.

Also tested : settings in Phocus are not applied on the "next picture". Oh great another photo of smoothed water in a stream and oversaturated colour and glaring sunlight, to add to the other 2 billion similar images. Why do most photographers copy each other and base their work on confining concepts like rule of thirds? Work that is actually imaginative and unique is largely ignored by the photo community. This Disney/marvel visual influence in photography these days is like Bob Ross was to painting back in the day. Education in art and particularly art history is what most lack.

    too bad you don't actually show a guide how to. I downloaded Capture One for Fuji on a Mac, and now what? Once I open Capture one I see a blank screen and nothing in the menu to point me to tether. Okay..

    • @kimfarrelly
      @kimfarrelly Před 9 měsíci

      In Capture One, the top menu click on 'Camera' then 'Enable Hot Folder' & select the folder you want Capture One to 'watch'. This has to be the same folder you set in X-Acuire before hand. Connect your camera to your Mac and take a shot. X-Acuire will grab the image file and putit in the hot folder. Capture one is watching that folder and will display the image. You should see a new sub folder being created in the Library tool tab in Capture One ( it will be the folder icon on the left see 3:45 in the video). Let me know if you need any more help on this.

    I have a xt5 and a gfx100; none of them can focus automatically in tethered live view; am I missing something or simply isn't autofocus provided in tethered LV?

    • @kimfarrelly
      @kimfarrelly Před 9 měsíci

      Fujifilm not fully supported for AF in CO. When clicking the shutter button in Capture One (CMD+K) without live view the camera should focus on the AF point as set in the camera, can;t change that point in CO. For live view you can adjust the focus with the arrows Near/Far in the Camera Focus tab and shoot from within the live view screen. I tend to use 2 'screens' on my mac and swipe between them as needed for focus of viewing.

    Hello, great video, subscribed! I opened your theter cable link, it opened different cable connection options at Amazon, which one will work for Fuji XT4? I’m confused 😆

    • @kimfarrelly
      @kimfarrelly Před 9 měsíci

      Hej, thanks for the sub 📸. The cable for your X-T4 is usb-c to whatever is on your computer. The X-T4 is USB-C. You can also get an adaptor to turn USB-C to USB-A (the ‘normal’ usb size). I have some of these adaptor cables that work well, there are also much smaller adaptors out there, make sure they are usb 3.1 (5Gb) speed. Adaptor: geni.us/Nimasusbc2a

      To record or live stream video into your computer you’ll need a capture card like the one I talk about in this video: czcams.com/video/esB8YfCAlBo/video.html A good free bit of software for video is called OBS

      Sure you can use it for photography, you'd have a much bigger screen then on the camera. I've used it a bit for doing top down images, so I can easily see the composition when the camera is in an awkward place.

      That's great thanks for reply, yea not all cameras have an angle type of display. Pretty much that's an upgrade later on... but to at least have somewhat of the same feature without compromising how one twist their bodies for photos or recording is a win. Awesome video dude!
