I never saw their relationship beyond being just friends. Steve was extremely protective of kono but thats bc she was the youngest and under his command. If something happened to her while under his orders he'd never forgive himself. Same with McDannos yeah they have a strong relationship and brotherhood but it doesn't go any further than that. Like with kono steve is extremely protective of Danny and Danny's kids and Rachael. Its what makes steve a great leader he cares so much to the point where he will get himself killed before he allows anyone to hurt his ohuna.
I love Hawaii 5-0 but I feel bad that Steve and Kono weren't in a relationship, together. Cate is great, and so is Lora, but I think Steve and Kono are wonderful together! And I honestly think, after those first episodes, that Kono was secretly in love with Steve! Or I made it up because I wanted it to be that way!
