    I really enjoy your tutorials ! 🙂 There is a question I ask myself since forever, though : is it possible to replace a tk by a kt ?? Indeed, by doing so we allow our dominant hand to have enough time to position for the next strike because there is an in-between strike by the other hand instead of several strikes in a row form the same hand. As k and t are virtually the same sound, the lazy me finds it easier to alternate the strikes as much as possible... Thanks a ton if you can answer some day ! 🙏

      Hi! Thanks for the kind words! My feeling is that you should start with what feels right to you. All I can do is show you the way I play these patterns. But if kt makes more sense to your way of playing than tk, I say go for it!

    Hi Ken and thanks a lot for this beautiful lesson. I was wondering how do you manage not to make your framedrum move at all while you are playing? Mine is really "dancing' a lot when I hit it, specially with the palm of my hand... and I'm quite sure this is not good at all :) (my framedrum is a Remo 22"x2,5" Rahmentrommel)

    • @kenshorley
      @kenshorley Před 26 dny

      Hello! Glad you enjoyed this lesson! Given the dimensions of your drum (22" wide x 2.5" deep) this 'knee dancing' problem will be more of a challenge for you. Frame drums with smaller diameters or deeper shell depths are, in general, easier to control. One suggestion that may help comes from a former student of mine. She encountered a similar problem when playing, and she found that putting a small piece of material known as 'rubber drawer liner' across her leg, under the drum, helped to keep the frame drum in place. Hope this helps!

    That’s a great video, thank you! Did you try clip-on mics by the way ? I tried Atm 350u and Atm 35pro but they both create very annoying “buzzing” sound , something resonates between mics and clip on system (maybe it’s because I use beater not fingers).

    • @kenshorley
      @kenshorley Před měsícem

      Hi! No I haven't used clip on mics with frame drums, not with large diameter ones anyway. They're sometimes pretty good with the riq. But it's true, the shell vibrations can be too much for them, unless they have a really good mount and clip that isolate vibration well.

    • @kenshorley
      @kenshorley Před měsícem

      Hi! I'd need to see and hear you play to be sure, but it's possible that you're holding your finger on the head of the drum a bit too long when playing Tek. Try to keep it light and bouncing. Those small Remo drums are quite light aren't they! A student of mine sometimes uses a type of rubbery material placed across their knee which can help with the unwanted movement of the drum when playing Doum. Hope this helps!
