We are a 4x4 advocacy group working to keep offroad trails in Colorado and Utah open. Public land roads and trails are the common thread holding all recreation groups together, giving us access to the backcountry. If you like to hike, mtb, trail run, overland, camp, fly fish, or drive 4x4 trails for recreation, your continued enjoyment of these activities is central to our work.
We work to keep these recreation assets open for you to use. We promote education, ethics, and stewardship for all public land users, and we have 14 adopted 4x4 trails in Central Colorado we work on and volunteer across the state. We also work with land managers as advocates for 4x4 trails and participate in land use projects to ensure our access stays open.

Are there any off roading tours that operate during winter with snow conditions?
There are no offroad tours in the winter. Many of our roads are closed to wheeled motorized vehicles and are used for over-the-snow recreation, primarily snowmobiles.
@@keeptrailsopen Thanks so much for the reply!
I’m 9+ months late here but I’m thinking the answer is to just go. Travel the lands however you want, be damned what the man says. That being said, don’t damage it. Stick to trails, etc etc. The rangers can’t handle the masses.
It may very well come to that one day. We are still fighting in the IBLA appeal process over the final decision and then will likely file litigation in Federal Court.
Anyone been to mirror lake road in the last 2 days and can report on depth of water? We appreciate all the work done by the Keep Trails Open crew!
The deepest part today was 18" on the road.
Thank you so much!

@@Ajedwards302 Yes. 8 days ago, the water level was down to 18". It's lower now and easily passable for SxS machines.
Looked like a good day to be a cameraman. Great work you guys do for the community, really amazing.
Thanks for watching.
We aere there on June 26 ans it was deep
yep, it was 50" deep on the road when we opened the pass on June 30th.
I was at Mirror Lake on 7/11/24 also in a stock 2 door Rubicon on 33" and it was too deep for me!
That depth is no joke for sure.
Snorkel bros! Such great info!
I was hoping somone would get a laugh out of that. 😂
just got my non-resident OHV and it says the sticker must be placed inside the vehicle on the lower right passenger front window so its visible.....:/
I'd just put it wherever you feel is a good place. The most important part you have covered, you bought the sticker.
Thanks for the update. We'll be there in two weeks. Your work at getting trails ready and the reports to us is appreciated.
For sure! Have fun.
I wonder if it was H & H towing in Gunny towed that 4Runner away
I'll have to double check, but I believe the 4Runner was recovered by Gunsmoke towing out of the BV area.
Thanks for the trail report and water Crossing information. Im planning to run tin cup then up Antero to camp in 2 or 3 weeks. I love that area its one of the best in the state.
Thanks for watching. Have fun when you are here!
Great advice, both in this video and your previous one, for those of us less experienced from out-of-state. Viewer from Florida here, watching your videos in anticipation of future trip out there in my 4Runner. Looking at the bumper-stickers on the underside of your hood, I wonder if you may have previously lived in Florida. That "Moroso" bumper-sticker is identical to that of the very popular former Moroso Motorsports Park northwest of West Palm Beach in Palm Beach County. When the Moroso family sold the racetrack back in 2008, it was renamed Palm Beach International Raceway. It closed down for good in 2022. The track was a lot of fun. Everyone into cars, trucks, 4x4s, in South Florida used to go there. I still see a lot of cars around here in Palm Beach County with that exact same Moroso bumper-sticker that you have on the underside of your hood.
Thanks for watching. Funny you saw that sticker, lol! I have never lived in Florida but I have a friend who was into racing that gave me that sticker about 2 decades ago. My dad was into organized street racing back in the day and always put his product sticker under the hood instead of on the car. I started doing the same thing when I got this wrangler 24 years ago and that Moroso sticker found its way under the hood. Thanks for the background.
That depth is enough for a lot of vehicles to turn around and go back. It would be fun to volunteer to clear trails and things like that. Great tips that are often overlooked, about water crossings.
Why would they do that? Why would they ruin a trail and modify the terrain for something unnecessary?
@@huntere185 I'm sorry... I don't understand
Thanks for watching!
I will be there next week. Looking forward to it.
Thanks for watching. Have fun!
Sweet, i am glad you guys have the ability to do what you do! It takes time and money to do this type of work
trails are not closed, you can still hike them.... Super psyched they are closing these and this has me motivated to help preserve more land from off road use. Cheers
The ROADS are closed, they were a road, not a hiking trail. You could have always hiked them and you are more than welcome to hike as recreation. However, public land is not for a select group and closing roads closes access to most users.
@@keeptrailsopen no one is being denied access to these areas just their vehicles, which is great for open spaces and allows wild spaces to be more wild. It’s ok to use your legs and the area still has an insane amount of off-road access. But since there’s way more hikers than jeepers we should probably close more of these “trails “. No one is being refused access to public land…
@@clintcasey314 you are confidently standing on a high place of moral superiortiy deciding what other people can and can't do. There are infinite variables that go into what people do on public land. The road system allows people to choose how to use public land for their situation. The roads (when they were all open) covered less than 1% of Gemini Bridges and Labyrinth Rims acrage in the TMP. You can spin it any way you want to fit your ideals, but one could say that the 2000 decision the BLM Moab Field Office made to eliminate cross county travel, and require all travel be done on existing routes did the most to keep the area wild and non-roaded spaces open.
@@keeptrailsopen I know that area well, have decades with land management and recreation in the region and specific area. That area is littered with roads, just look at the map. I'm not being superior I'm giving my opinion based on experience. I watched this and other areas get trashed by off-road use and don't appreciate people misstating that they are being blocked from this area just because sensible land management is being applied. Again... there are way more hikers than off-road users, land use should reflect that. Also one is mainly for the rich and causes a much larger impact. Poor people buy shoes, rich buy side by sides and trailers.
@@clintcasey314 ditto on being in the area and using the roads for decades and volunteering for stewardship. You keep talking in circles to justify your opinions with more opinions and moving the target. Now it's a rich vs poor thing... Not worth more converstion, good day.
So why not go run those trails and say "fuck you catch me if you can" to the schmucks tasked with keeping us out? There's only so many rangers out there to begin with...
We still have an appeal (and potentially litigation) with the IBLA, so we arn't quite at the civil disobedience recomendation. But who knows what the future holds...
@CORE Do you think Mirror Lake will be passable by mid-July? SxS on 35” tires.

Valid Point.
Is it time to ask for donations for road closure gates? It may be. 🥸
No more gates. It seems when a gate shows up, the excuses start to pile up as to why it should stay closed, unfortunatly. People just need to make better decisions.

This is a great point, thanks for reminding everyone how much happens by dedicated people to keep our trails open. I know exactly what you mean about people seeing tracks and thinking they can do it too, in 83 we had massive flooding in Utah, long story short a gravel pit here in town filled clear full of mud, once it dried up a bit, I skated my old Willys across the top. The next day, that thing was clear full of full sized pickup trucks, all buried beyond hope

Same experience, same spot, 2014 in an FJC...Thanks for the memories.
Great info on a really unnecessarily confusing system.. but I'm still wondering why an unlicensed dirt bike would need to be registered rather than just buying the OHV permit. Do you have to register unlicensed OHV's and buy a permit for them? Would you technically be illegal if you had only the permit instead of registering it? It's like they designed the system to confuse and trick people!
