    Suggestion - when you hold the book up for us to see, hold it steady and still for a while so we can adjust to look at it. In this video you flash the book at us, then turn it around or over, or back to you, then back to us - it's too hard to follow! Thanks for the great videos!

    So frustrating, I am a beginner--completely--and you quickly say "You just go down to myebay, mysellerhub".... yet, I did not see My Seller Hub on your screen at all, nor did I see what you clicked on. If you are making a 'beginner' video, treat it as such.... Just a suggestion for you going forward.

    I've never understood pricing books like they're a volume commodity . I get estate sales need to quickly price a whole life's accumulation in a rough and ready manner, but it's a book not a bushel of corn. I've seen $5 books priced at twice their retail value simply because they were large and heavy, meanwhile the truly valuable books slumber on the shelves.

    Some estate sale company's don't do the family's of the estate or them self's justice when they ask full blown Ebay prices. If that was the last day of the sale that house should be empty. It looked like the 1st day of the sale. Hope you make out on that big score. Let us know. 👍✌️

  • @seattlesharksfan
    @seattlesharksfan Před 16 dny

    I love estate sales for finding books, assuming the house doesn't smell like smoke and they don't overprice stuff. I have found those squadron/signal books before for super cheap. One huge BOLO area I tend to look for: hidden signed nonfiction. If it's a celebrity memoir or older notable nonfiction author and the book looks to be in decent shape on the shelf I take the 5 seconds to pull it out and flip through the title page to check for an autograph. Certain estate sale companies (and customers!) oftentimes don't look through every book for this kind of stuff, and I have found some treasures that way.

    I have found several items that I knew would be of value to an organization. I went online and found an organization, told them what i had and asked if they were insterested. If they said yes, I sent it to them and in return received a very nice thank you letter. I also came across an old box of wood pencil sharpeners in the shape of Mickey Mouse. Again, found a collector and sold him the items. $20.00 for a ,25 cent purchase.

    Thanks for taking the time to create these videos. Nice military annuals. After years of selling yearbooks and military annuals online, I think this is fairly accurate: when a potential customer asks you to see if the person they are looking for is in your book, the chance of that person being in there is about 5%. The probability of the person thanking you (or even responding to you) when you let them know you looked and the person is not in the book is about 10%. I've been listing a lot of genealogy in the last year (acquired a 20,000 volume private library). If there are no comps, I'd price those Bulletins at $60 for the set of three.

After a while what takes you 2 hours to look up and/or scan will take you 30 minutes as "train your eye ....... and for weird. Several years ago I picked up a sketch book of "racist" cartoons". The book was that of sketches in newspapers and magazines that were printed in the 1800s to early 1900s. Book was printed in 1930s. Sold for $800 (US$) in a few days. Paid $1

    • @mesopotamialover905
      @mesopotamialover905 Před 26 dny

      @@curatorofthelost I am still new to this, but I found out that you can get some books in very affordable prices in libraries here (they do this part of promotion thing) but the profitability when I sell this type of books is not too much because these books are available, they are not rare, and their prices are known to people even outside the country, Books that I do find profitable are two types: first ) books issued by the country we live in (Portugal in my case) or second type) books that I import from outside the EU and sell them for EU people, , the first group of books are are a bit expensive and in high demand even here inside the country, while the second group of books can be profitable for the two reasons: first they are not available here and second their price is not known also for people here. For sourcing, I need to follow the websites of local libraries here to find books in promotion or to look up in the internet to find them in other small private book shops or Vinted website which is mainly for European countries I guess. Sometimes I find a seller in my city in Vinted website so we can meet up directly to avoid the shipping and website fees of using the online site. One of the things that supports my position in selling online is that I am located in the EU, while sellers in the UK will endure more cost due to the importation tax and the currency difference. So a European customer will prefer to buy from me over buying from one located in the UK (that is my opinion). People who bought from me are from France, Netherlands, Germany, ...

      @@curatorofthelost I wrote a comment but now I cannot see it for unknown reason ... will write it again, for sourcing, I need to follow websites of big libraries and small book shops here , the first one can lower prices as part of promotion period ... also I use Vinted website, it is similar to eBay but mostly for EU countries I guess. Also, sometimes I import books from Arab countries and sell them in the EU market for Arab speakers or those interested in collecting Arabic version of books.

A few times before that I got 30ish near mint, more obscure "paperbacks from hell". $2 for all and others. Best one sold quick for $70. Godspeed to your mom, and you.

      @@curatorofthelost Then there's a small "ma pa local assistance" "free if not with donation" store in the general Akron area (dont want to give exact as I may have competition who watch you). They dont get much for books, and disc media is kid centric. However, the few times I have stopped it was bank. A huge lot of 50ish USAF technical training manuals from the '40s and 50s. Gave them $50. Still have a few left.

    Thank you. This video has reassured me that foxing will not spread like mold would. My practice is to sandpaper it away, if it hasn't penetrated too deeply. The resulting "clean look" is quite satisfying.

    Buyer pays shipping seems to ward off many buyers from sending it back to be honest and half the time they open a case and never send anything back

    This is a great video. Pricing collectibles is two-fold (what is the "value"--lets say year to year) and what is the price it can be sold for today to the available pool of willing buyers. If we look at a piece of art that has a "value" of $20M dollars...it may not be able to be liquidated at that price on any given day. Often, there is a lot of marketing and build up to an auction to fetch the highest possible price. Local shops and resellers spend little of anything on marketing and hype to reinforce the value of their inventory. To your point, it is very hard for collectors to be resellers because we see the full intrinsic value of an item. We know how hard it was to obtain or the skill and knowledge it took to recognize it and save it from the rubbish bin. That's why it is often best to buy and sell products you just don't care about or collect. That emotional distance allows you to see the dynamic pricing without bias....

    Correct. I simply do not understand buyers who think they can dictate the price despite what the market wants.

    Catch me on the right day and I'll make a deal, normally I want to get what I have researched to be a fair value. But you always have to decide on whether you want a fast nickle or a slow dime. Most everything will sell eventually if you've been picky in what you list.

    Yesterday morning I received a low offer on some books. They were only 48 hours old. I decided to wait until I went to sleep to accept it. Low and behold, they sold for full price before the end of the day!

    An important lesson that I had to learn: I'ts better to take some of the money all of the time, than all of the money some of the time.

    “A quick nickel beats a slow dime.” I drop prices periodically down to $3.50, then if there’s still no interest, it’s “To the dump to the dump to the dump dump dump!!!!”

    This is exactly the reason why I ended my short experiment using an auto repricer for my Amazon inventory. As much as it makes for quicker sales in some instances for some people, it also goes the other way and causes prices to go up beyond what is reasonable and fair (and more importantly, what most people will pay). So I went back to my old way of setting a price that is well thought out, that represents the intrinsic value (plus some buffer for convenience of buying on Amazon) and it works much better. After dropping the autorepricer, I shifted to not following the crowd on certain items where the prices listed were out of whack with the market or reason. My sales went up a lot. Following the extortionary market pricing that sometimes happens on Amazon is the reason that I ended up in the past with hundreds of books (a large percentage of my inventory) that never sold and ultimately lost any value whatsoever online.

    I'm doing eBay for a number of years now. I NEVER HAD EBAY AUTOMATICALLY REFUND ME FOR A VOIDED SHIPPING LABEL.
