    Thanks for posting these videos. You’ve done an impressive job of pulling the headstock apart. I know it’s a lot of work to film and edit the process, but I’ve subscribed to your channel in hopes that you document the reassembling of this machine. I happen to have acquired a Triumph 2000 (called the Clausing-Colchester 15” here in the US) earlier this year, and am in the process of cleaning it up and evaluating. It’s similar in age to your lathe, and a very nice machine which I’m thrilled to put back in service. Best of luck with your rebuild!

    What was the cause of your starter to keep running after you let off of the start lever and then had to disconnect the battery? I just replaced my solenoid and got it to run for about 5-10 seconds before it died, like it ran out of fuel (I changed the filters, but the tank liner is disintegrating and I might have another problem there). When I tried to start the engine again and then let off the lever, my starter kept running as well, and like yours, the bendex wasn’t engaging the flywheel and I had to pull my battery cables to stop it. My wiring looks awful with cracks in the insulation and the red cable coming off of the front of the solenoid looks like it just has one strand left. Do you think it could be my wiring or something else? I’m debating replacing just a few of the wires but maybe the whole harness which would be a big job for me. I think mine is a 1958.

    I've owned and restored a few of these, the last one I restored I kept for 12 years and used daily on the farm too, a real tidy little machine around a yard they are, you can zip in and out of tight sheds clearing muck off of floors ECT with ease. I'd even say they are better for some jobs than a 35. Two things let them down though in my opinion, 1 being the crappy steering box design, I've attempted to tighten up a few over the years fitting new bearings ECT, but I've often wondered if the outer housing was bored bigger inside and the depth increased if two bearings could be fitted? The other fault which I sorted on my tractor is the gear selectors. They were machined a bit short, when a gear is selected you have a gap open up between the selectors, that's ok until the tip of the gear stick becomes worn, together with the outer corners of the selectors themselves, then you end up with your gear stick coming out between that gap I mentioned and stuck in whatever gear was selected. I solved it on mine by welding a piece of 10 mm flat either side of each selector and grinding to size, it eliminates any gap between the selectors when a gear is selected, so your gear stick can't come out of mesh. Ferguson left shoulders on their selectors to prevent the same problem, of course a picture is worth a thousand words as they say, hope you can understand what I'm on about, cheers,👍

      Thanks for your advice on the old girl , I have already got my hands on a replacement set of shift leavers so when I get the chance to install them I will certainly be checking for any excessive play at the tips. I have just rebuilt the steering column and managed to get it pretty tight for the moment although time will tell if it holds up. I'm looking forward to getting her fired up in the next video and hopefully getting out for a road test.

    • @Adventure_Van_Upgrades
      @Adventure_Van_Upgrades Před 5 měsíci

      This was done entirely upon request of the owner, From what I was told it's to allow better control of the strike trigectory, as opposed to a skimmed flat surface the crosshatch finish leaves lots of high points to achieve more surface area contact & grip upon impact.

    Hi there, it is interesting work isn't it?😅 There are only standard metric bearings used....nothing fancy and not really expensive. I own 2 of these Triumph 2000 for hobby purposes and have done this on both of them. It is ok to renew the bearings but please do not expect that the noise level goes down in case she is noisy already. The noise is coming from the gears not from the bearings. If you want the noise to decrease you have to identify the noise generators(gears) and replace them against either new ones or very good used ones. Unfortunately the prices for any spares for the Colchesters are quite expensive. I felt that the lubrication on this lathes could be better and I upgraded it on both of my lathes. I speeded up the oil pump by changing the pulley ratio, installed a cartridge filter and added small lube pipes to the ring pipe to get oil directly to meshing points of some of the gears. Anyway have fun restoring the Triumph 2000 and enjoy working with it once it's done! Greetings from Germany
