STR02 Shear Force and Bending Moment Diagrams w Example 01
Drawing Shear Force and Bending Moment Diagrams.
In this presentation we will introduce shear force and bending moment diagrams that are used for the design of members. We’ll start off with a discussion of the sign conventions that are used for internal shear forces and bending moments, then use a method of sections to plot the internal shear force and bending moment over the length of an example beam. Next, we’ll examine theoretical relationships between applied loads, internal shear forces, and internal bending moments by evaluating equilibrium equations associated with a differential beam element. After that, we’ll introduce a set of rules that can be used to draw shear force and bending moment diagrams more quickly than by using the method of sections and finally, we’ll conclude by using those rules to draw the shear force and bending moment diagrams for the example beam.

    Your video was highly informative for a beginner like me. It was very helpful for understanding the load combination with concept. I would also like to know how the self straining load will affect these permutations as in the clause 2.3.4 it is state that "T shall be considered in combination with other loads". Thank you once again for informative presentation.

    Hi expert, What is the "S" in the formular: Sum(M)/S < Fy/1.67

    • @jamesaswanson
      @jamesaswanson Před měsícem

      S is the elastic section modulus, which is the 2nd moment of inertia, I, divided by the distance from the neutral axis of the section to the fiber at which the bending stress is being calculated, c.

    For the 4 on 12 slope roof example. Would the (pf) flat roof snow load govern? Because pf = 18.5 psf is greater than ps = 15.9 psf? I thought the larger load would be applied to the roof.
