No-Stitch Bottle Sling Tutorial | DIY Leathercraft
In this step-by-step DIY leather craft tutorial video, I show you how to make a simple bottle sling. This easy design is fun, quick, and doesn’t need stitching! Water bottle slings are a great way to conveniently carry your water bottle this summer. Simply toss it over your shoulder and your hands are free to enjoy a walk, hike, bike ride, and more. This design features adjustable straps so you can fit your various bottles. For this example, I’m using raw vegetable-tanned leather.

I’m also testing out a few new things I received from Cí Official, an online craft store that specializes in Leathercraft and Clay Crafting. They were generous enough to send two tools for me to try out, a mini strap cutter and a sweet edge burnishing machine. There were a few areas for improvement, but overall I’m very happy with how the tools performed. I give them a more thorough review in the video. If you’re interested in checking them out for yourself, here are a couple discount links:

My grandfather used one during the forties when he was a county deputy sheriff during WWII. When he asked for someone's I.D. and they smartmouthed him they got the business end of it. People respected the law back then, not like today. If you obeyed the law and complied, you didn't have anything to worry about, if not he would beat the hell out of you. Sounds like we some of that this day and time.

Going forward, any video I make will indeed be a tutorial for using the patterns. This can be seen in more recent uploads. Thank you! I have been meaning to look into this. A friend gave me a copy of The Plictho of Gioanventura Rosetti, first edition 1548, English Translation M.I.T. Press, Cambridge Massachusetts, 1969. Section 4 is "The Art of Dressing Leather" (tanning and dyeing). I just haven't had time to go over it. But from the foreword, for leather it contains 9 recipes for blacks and greys, 8 for reds, 9 for blues, 5 for greens, 1 for yellow, 1 for "dark wine" (morello) and 2 for gilding.

This way if you do ever have to use it to protect yourself your already holding the handle when you deploy it.

this is considered a slap jack/blackjack so check your local laws as they are illegal to carry/use in many areas, i know they are here in colorado sadly as i already considered it for when i can't carry a firearm. i ended up going with a good strong self defense cane for those situations being a medical device, and being just a strong cane they cannot deny it, of course the hidden blade ones would be a problem though.

Yes, saps and blackjacks are a touchy subject. There are strict laws in place in basically all US states regarding them. In some states, they're illegal to own and carry, and in some, they're legal to own at home but not to carry out in public. I also think some concealed carry licenses cover them. But I'm not 100% sure, so it's always best to check local laws. The cane seems like a nice replacement though, better range of attack, too. Thanks for watching!

As the saying goes, I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Thank you! I appreciate you watching the video. You should definitely give it a shot, but fair warning, use big stitches because it was a LOT to stitch by hand.
