Iivari Kainulainen – Vedenpaisumus ja Noakin arkki
Rohkea veto laulaa tällainen hieman jumalanpilkkainen kappale 1910-luvulla. Tämäkin on vallan mainio veto Kainulaiselta.

This song perfectly explains the plot . How well done.
Tosi asiat sanottiin oikeilla nimillä
The story of my life. Gilbert really NAILED it.
Crazy to hear someone who had been directed by Gilbert & Sullivan themselves singing this role. I wish there was a recording of him doing the Major-General's song, but Lytton actually rarely did recordings as he wasn't thought to have a good voice for it. He was a better performer than musician - it was once said that he was most talented at convincing the audience he was a good baritone!
J A TANNER
Richard Walker is on the left. He came to Australia during the 40s and 50s for G&S seasons and appeared in the original Australian production of My Fair Lady as Alfred P. Doolittle. He played the role for the four year run and then returned in 1970 for the revival season.
This does start out very fast which can be exciting and then the rest slows down to what I am accustomed to hearing. At the end I was surprised that the recording abruptly stops. Is this from Savoy theater orchestra?
I am pretty sure that in this song Derek Oldham is singing Cyril's part (higher tenor) while Charles Goulding is Hilarion (lower tenor).
On täällä Suomessa muitakin ajateltu aiemminkin ettei rasistisena pelkkää omaa napaa.😊
Beautifully sung - and what a cast!
Tapsakin..
At least he’s not singing ‘banjo serenader’😂👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻shouldn’t tamper with the words.act of vandalism
So you endorse the original racist slur, using the n-word to insult American musician James Bland? Is that what you're saying Mr. Ashley?

This reminds me of the opening of the slappy and the stinkers movie😃
Such clear diction. Superb.
Yksikin neekeri on liikaa!!!
"That singular anomaly the prohibitionist" They were already changing the song to fit the era in those days.
Probably for the American market..a little joke they'd relate to?
Ah, the good old days, when Bismarck was the most famous leader of Germany.
It shows how true to the voice and mood John Reed was in later years
Lytton went back to the beginning. Authentic.
Almost the beginning, he joined the company in 1884
Such a fine voice . Bertha Lewis, one of the best Savoyards.
Terveisin videon lataaja.
Far too fast !!!!
This aria is so G&S; backwards, topsy-turvy, hilarious, and uncannily relatable! Sometimes, it can be cathartic when something goes wrong and we have something to challenge us, and something to complain about. Who else has been there?
Karseeta kohtaloa Euroopalle edessä.
why does she look Tina fey
What a rich and beautiful contralto!
One of Sullivan's prettiest melodies.....
... and one of Gilbert's most mordant (and that's the polite word) lyrics... Beautifully sung!
I can hear him clear his throat ha
magnificent
Amazing recording!
Amazing quality for a 90 year old song
This recording is so old it would be equivalent to watching a movie that came out in 1971
There have been many greats but Lytton nails the ridiculousness of the pomposity perfectly
I think this tempo fits it best.
Lady Psyche. A Lady fair, of lineage high, Was loved by an Ape, in the days gone by. The Maid was radiant as the sun, The Ape was a most unsightly one, The Ape was a most unsightly one So it would not do His scheme fell through, For the Maid, when his love took formal shape, Express'd such terror At his monstrous error, That he stammer'd an apology and made his 'scape, The picture of a disconcerted Ape With a view to rise in the social scale, He shaved his bristles and he docked his tail, He grew mustachios, and he took his tub, And he paid a guinea to a toilet club, He paid a guinea to a toilet club But it would not do, The scheme fell through For the Maid was Beauty's fairest Queen, With golden tresses, Like a real princess's, While the Ape, despite his razor keen, Was the apiest Ape that ever was seen! He bought white ties, and he bought dress suits, He crammed his feet into bright tight boots And to start in life on a brand new plan, He christen'd himself Darwinian Man! He christen'd himself Darwinian Man! But it would not do, The scheme fell through For the Maiden fair, whom the monkey crav'd, Was a radiant Being, With a brain farseeing While Darwinian Man, though well-behav'd, At best is only a monkey shav'd! Hilarion, Cyril & Florian. For the Maiden fair, whom the monkey crav'd, All. Was a radiant Being, With a brain farseeing While Darwinian Man, though well-behav'd, At best is only a monkey shav'd!
Sorry, that photo is not from the 30's but from the new 50's production.
Love it!!!

On se niin väärin, kun on tätä rasismia liikkeellä maailmassa, on se niin jumalattoman väärin...! 🕵🏼♀️👌🏿🤓🤓🤓
I am saddened in knowing that this wonderful composer/humorist/singer lived such a shortened life - only 42 (1884-1926). I've been playing his music on vintage accordions for over 62 years. It is a shame he is not better known in the United States - Finnish-Americans throughout MA, NY, WI, MI, Oregon, WA and other such states grew up enjoying these works, often in the form of dance music at Finn halls - but have no knowledge of the songs' origins. Sisu
they don't have any film recordings of this play performed so long ago?
One of my favorite number of all G&S....Sullivan was in his prime, and I actually enjoy WSG's contribution, too, though many don't. btw, the sound on this recording is remarkably clear....thanks for uploading!
Classic.
Covered by Annie Haslam in 2005, so Input both versions in my Haslam playkist. Thanks!
Nice one. Is this from the recording conducted by Isadore Godfrey - with Peter Pratt and Martyn Green?
No, that was the 1951 recording when Darrell Fancourt was near the end of his career.
