Great interview.
Really enjoyable interview!
As a trainee pen maker from Birmingham, England, i am extremely happy that i have discovered this channel. I have no problem with pen reviewers reviewing pens made by legacy pen companies, but i also would like to see more shout outs to the smaller artisan pen makers out there who are thankfully increasing in numbers around the world.
Glad to have you along for the ride! Definitely check out the new "correspendence" part of the channel for more from small makers and innovators in our pen- world! New episode released Monday!
Wow lots of work, you have being busy
It keeps me going knowing good folks like you actually enjoy listening! Thanks for watching! :)

Whoo hoo! Let’s go! Gonna be awesome! Love the “correspendence”!
Who did the nib work on the River City pen?
It was from www.fpnibs.com/
Cool collection
Jason is an amazing maker!
Bought a pen from Rob because of this channel! ☝️ Great guy.
Thank you so much Howard! It was a pleasure!
I deeply enjoyed chatting with you about my passion for making beautiful pens! It was great fun and an honor being your first interview! Thank you so much for having me on! I don’t think I would have wanted to be interviewed by anyone else for a first interview. I really had a wonderful time conversing with you about my pen making journey!
Rob is a wonderful person to work with and makes some amazing pieces that will definitely carry his legacy. I was honored to work with him on the gold leaf board that hopefully will compliment his work.
Thank you Jon, it was a pleasure working with you as well! I look forward to many more projects and collaborations!
Has anyone called it a Penaissance?
@@YDSTE I'm in.
Thanks for this topic! I live in Switzerland and work for a school. I don't see it as “pen” in general but rather as a question about the right to exist of fountain pens. Fountain pens with nibs are no longer distributed at school. They are nowadays rollerball pens. Why could rollerball pens never really gain a foothold in the lower (and upper) luxury segment? In the upper luxury segment it was/is the case that a very noble fountain pen also has a little brother called a ballpoint. You're showing the Namisu Pocket Pen here. I would spontaneously say that's exactly what should boost successful sales: a high-quality fountain pen that also works as a ballpoint pen. You can rebuild it. Another recipe for success is (at least it should be) that it is NOT in the upper luxury segment. So you can carry it with you as an EDC in a bag or laptop side pocket. If you would ask me, you can safely show more hybrids like this. In addition to the Namisu Nova Pocket, I also own the Namisu N2. A great writing instrument that caught my attention because it doesn't function in the same way as all the others. It is not just a noble tube made of noble material with noble decoration/color and a noble feather made of pure gold. It's more of a functional writing instrument that's really fun to use. Likewise the Namisu Neo. Admittedly it's a design that takes some getting used to, but I still love it as an EDC (as a ballpoint pen).
Great points! I agree that all the pens here on this channel would be on the luxury side - nothing you could get off the shelf at a typical store. Ballpoints and the like have some more pragmatic advantages (ink dries fast/permanent, low cost). I don't expect EU/USA schools to adopt fountain pens, however, many parts of the world in Asia and India still use fountain pens throughout school ages, and as such are widely still used in their adult population as well. This is one reason we see large companies in India (Magna Carta) and Japan (Pilot, Platinum, etc.) and less so in Europe and America... unless as you note they are more a luxury item. I think that the luxury segment is what allows small artisans and those with passion to still enter the market. There is NO way a small maker could under-price a Bic, or create a more pragmatic pen in that sense. However, when there is enough money from consumers to warrant a maker buying tools and spending hours upon hours making a pen - there exists this sweet spot where the money is enough of an incentive to motivate those small artisans to do what they do and still turn enough of a profit to continue. I also agree with you there exists a balance between EDC use and Pen-Case Beauties. I carry my Matte-Black Vanishing point or Q3D TwisTi titanium bolt almost everyday, yet carry the Raden Vanishing Point or Q3D Zirconium Damascus pens rarely if ever because I'm afraid to put a scratch on them! I have enjoyed my Namisu as well. It is an extra sense of security now that I anodize, because I'm not afraid of scratching the Namisu, I can always reanodize it at home myself. Thank you again for taking the time to leave your thoughts and discuss!
That was a lot of small makers!
I think you nailed it. Great explanation.
I agree. Railroading isn't an issue unless it actually happens when you're doing calligraphy. You're likely not going that fast.
very neat pen. I like the Golden resin.
Cool process.
This is great. Thanks for sharing.
Cool ink.
Too small of a pen for me, even as a pocket pen.
Looking forward to more content on the new Namisu pocket pen (I have one with machined finish), you are the first on CZcams that I've seen with it!👍
Very nice review, lots of info.
Fascinating video, really great job!
So interesting . Love that you give the history before the review. Learning here . Soon I will be going to some pen shows in Florida. Looking forward to purchasing some vintage pens. Thank you for taking the time to share .
I have this pen in the machined finish but I have a question about the stonewash finish that you purchased. Is that finish wearing off around the threads or is that some color variation from the anodization that you did?
Any finish will wear down around the threads just due to contact friction metal on metal. Stonewash will be less noticeable deterioration vs a color anodized. However, the discoloration around these threads was my fault during anodizing. I plan on redoing this pen anodization.
Nice pocket pen.
Thanks for a fantastic video. Very informative and well done.
Ydhtjzjbfj😎😎😎😎💯
Beautiful pen, love the contrast.
from where you bought it wtf ? i cant find it in website wtf i hate those s upid project in kick starter or any website hen you click on the stupid link always out of stock now what ???? i wanna buy now from the fk i can find it ??
I noticed it was not yet on their website as well. I figure this was their 'test' - the kickstarter, and now that it's fulfilled they will make more to list on the website eventually.
On the website when i checked today.
so funny desgin too small 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣 i hope writing well
Let me know if your Namisu burps ink out. Mine has already done it twice. First was when i first inked the pen with cartridge that came with it. The second was when i was just writing and it made an inky mess on the page.
Mine has not burped ink at all, about 3 pages written with it over a few days now. I got a medium nib, for comparison to yours.
Bold nib on mine, no burping.
Happy fathers Day
Thank you!
Cerakoted finished blade not titanium nitrate lol… It is a great knife. Edit: worrying about the omega springs wearing out is very low. But however like you mentioned there are a very very very minuscule amount of people that carry and use knives as tools that had one break from normal use. That number increases from the very thing you said just playing with it, that is not what it was intended for. But not saying don’t do it… you can buy spare omega springs.
Good catch. Alas, I thought it was more than cerakote. Thanks for watching and taking time to leave a comment!
@@ZenofThePen no worries man. I believe you can buy extra omega springs directly from Benchmade or Flytanium if they’re in-stock
Just bought one of these the other day. Great knife. Have had the Mini Freek in carbon fiber for a while and knew I had to have the big boy too.
It's a good one!
Cool pen, nice review.
We have many of the same lights! That thrower is so much fun! Like holding a light saber. 😂
Magna Carta support is none existent 😩
Wooo !
That was a super excited unveiling got more excited for each one! Thanks Dave !
Thanks! I found their newer nib addressed many of the issues original one had. However, they have made the nib tip bigger, so, not as fine of a writer. This nib deserves an eye-dropper. I have it eye dropped straight, with great results. It works very well, with NO railroading, and no leaking. Out of pilot 823 FA, MB 149FA, Regalia writing Labs, here I'd rank the max flex: 1. Regalia writing labs 2. MB149=Mag 600 4 Pilot FA #15 I do not consider FPR nibs qualified for this list :)
Worth trying a Good Blue Pen 14K gold flex nib. Max line width around 3mm. I have a Regalia Crossflex on way so will compare the two soon!
Beautiful backyard, great outdoor space.
Thanks! My wife and I love being outdoors, and we are trying to get the kids outside too!
Awesome back yard, buddy… I love it!
Thanks 👍
Go for it my friend
Cheers, Mate. I love how your channel has evolved over the past 3-4 months. From mainly edc related gear, to now fine fountain pens. I've noticed other edc forums do not suggest fountain pens for every day carry. They typically suggest hard metal cased titanium or steel bolt action pens.
Machined pens are more pragmatic - thinner overall, ink lasts longer / more waterproof / faster drying. The real advantages of fountain pens are 1) water based ink flows smoother and 2) thousands more ink choices. The only Fountain pen I edc is a pilot vanishing point, and with good use I need to refill it once every week or two.
I love my mag600, and your striped model looks fantastic - I may need a second pen... Add a drop of vegetable glycerine to the converter to reduce railroading 👍
Happy Memorial Day weekend to you as well.
Thanks so much!
Nice pen. What do you think of Fellhoeter custom pens?
Nice - but like a saga you pay a premium for Ti with milling, and the bolt sits a little low for my liking... Personally, for that money, I'd throw it to Q3d for nicer materials + more rarity. That said, if you are into Fellhoelter, you can get the FAP caps and such so the customizability is nice.
That is a gorgeous knife. I don't know much about custom knives, but it looks expen$ive.
