Installing the Rekluse EXP Clutch on the WR250R
This video provides step-by-step instructions for installing a Rekluse EXP automatic clutch on a 2015 Yamaha WR250R motorcycle. We followed the instructions included by Rekluse to the letter, but in this video we've added some additional details as well as a few tips for what made the install a little more straightforward for us.
In addition to the clutch installation, we also perform an oil change, though this is not strictly required when installing the Rekluse system. Changing the oil is simply good periodic maintenance.
The Rekluse EXP auto clutch eliminates the need to operate the clutch lever manually. This can reduce fatigue during extended riding, especially in technical off-road conditions. The auto clutch allows the rider to focus solely on throttle control for smoother power delivery.
The Yamaha WR250R is a robust and capable dual-sport motorcycle, well-suited for both on-road and off-road use. Its light weight and nimble handling make it a versatile machine for just about anything - including off road or light trail riding. The addition of the Rekluse clutch makes this machine even more capable and comfortable in navigating tighter, tougher terrain at lower speeds with greater control.
The video breaks down the Rekluse installation into straightforward steps anyone can follow with some basic tools and mechanical ability. While Points Unknown professional motorcycle mechanics, we do go through the steps we used to successfully install this automatic clutch system.
There are a few key reasons why you might want toupgrade to a Rekluse automatic clutch on the Yamaha WR250R:
Reduced fatigue on technical trails
The WR250R is a great off-road motorcycle, but constantly working the clutch lever on tough trails can lead to hand fatigue and arm pump over extended rides. The Rekluse eliminates this by automatically engaging and disengaging the clutch, allowing the rider to focus solely on throttle, braking, and body positioning.
Smoother power delivery
With the auto clutch, there is no risk of stalling or accidentally slipping the clutch when negotiating obstacles. The clutch automatically disengages when coming to a stop and re-engages when rolling on the throttle, providing smooth, consistent power delivery.
Traction management
The Rekluse helps maximize traction by eliminating the need to slip the clutch for tricky uphill sections or when re-accelerating. This translates to better control and less potential for wheel spin or loss of rear wheel traction.
Convenience for tight trails
Not having to pull the clutch lever in constantly on tight, technical trails allows the rider to fully focus on body positioning and line selection through challenging sections.
You just want to try something new
Automatic clutches on motorcycles are still pretty novel, even though Rekluse has been making automatic clutch parts for dirtbikes since 2002. Still, there is something pretty liberating about not having to pull a lever every time you stop or when you slow down to maneuver around a corner or in technical terrain.

when removing the clutch lever you have to screw the silver part all the way in to get slack and line up the slot so that you can remove the cable leaving the silver adjuster in place. then do the opposite when installing the new lever. what you are doing at 3:10 is wrong

Beth is 5'-5" (165cm) tall. The UBCO seat height doesn't seem that low (32") - but Beth has no issues with a 29" inseam. Furthermore, the frame is step through at the center, given it's scooter-like configuration. So even if the seat felt a little high, you can move over the center and have plenty of clearance, even with shorter inseams. So - yes, I think it would be great for shorter legged folks.

I really don't see the point in using the tape over big globs of sealant. The tape is almost definitely going to leak. Sealing the individual spokes should be adequate if prepped well. Also, it's much easier to clean off if you have to adjust the spokes. You can use a rotary wire wheel then just reapply the sealant.

Wondering what's the purpose of the rubber rim strips on top of everything. I put one on my tubeless conversion (3m 5200 quick set only with no 4411n tape) and it broke and made my wheel unbalanced at random speeds. Found out after replacing tire for a new one - no issues with it since. Rear, started leaking so slightly after 1 1/2 years so I removed the tire to look at things and I don't think I spent enough time cleaning, roughing up rim etc. So now in the process of redoing rear with more attention and the added protection of the 4411n tape. Hoping for the best. Thanks a lot for the video!

    • @PointsUnknownTV
      @PointsUnknownTV Před 3 měsíci

That's a really good point on the rim strip. I put it back in "because I had it". But it really is extraneous with the sealant and tape. Even if I did bend the rim and need to put a tube in, I don't think I'd need a rim strip. And it's a good anecdote that sometimes the extraneous stuff causes more problems than benefits.
