    Oh I love this! Here is a question I anticipate someone might ask me if I were to share his ideas, and I would have no response. So maybe someone here could answer it. If objects cease to exist until rendered by perception , how would one explain the fact that the lawn furniture left in the yard when no one perceived it still got wet when it rained.

  • @georgeroberts442
    @georgeroberts442 Před 14 hodinami

    OK, so objects in space time don’t exist when not perceived. I get that. But, how do you account for initial perception? Take the Eiffel Tower for example. It exists only so long as someone is perceiving it. When, by happenstance, no one is perceiving it, it does not exist. So, once in that state of non-existence, how do you get it back? It doesn’t exist. Someone looks in its (former) direction and ………..? What? Does it then suddenly pop back into existence in order to be perceived? If it didn’t exist for some period of time, how is it suddenly recreated? Why wouldn’t the appearance of the Arc de Triomphe, or some other object, be just as likely to occur? True "non-existence" would mean that it was gone without any trace left behind. So, the question is not only how does it reappear the next time someone looks in that direction, but also why does IT reappear instead of something else.

    The reason why creation presents itself as a logical paradox, is because the concept of creation is fundemntally flawed. Also If subjective reality is true, and what you say is that subjective experience creates apparent objective reality, then if i take 2 concious beings in a room, assume there consciousnesses are distinct, then 1, reality should show chaos inbetween the two conflicting wills both people, and 2, if 1 dies that should have an effect on the reality of the 2nd person with their remaining now unchallenged manifestations. So if reality is subjective you can see that because we can agree on objective statements, that your conciousness and my concioussness are fundememntally the one and the same entity A side note. Ask AI to describe its neural network nodes in terms of combinations of up to 11 dimensions pictorally in 3 dimensions, then ask it to do so that the changing dynamic 3d mosaic mirrors fundemtal adaptive mesh refinement of natural forces

    And for something to add we need to look at the contexts of the world becoming more facilitative of states of suffering and many drugs do work, sometimes not like the testing but surely many have important effects on mental stability for millions that need them, maybe not due to pharma industry, neither due to over pathologizing, neither to restrain of solutions, but mostly due to bad social and cultural and economic conditions. So, the idea of having accountability and transparency must be the corner stone, assuming we do not know everything, and pharma does not need to lie (because if things continue like they are I have no doubt that more diseases and more drugs will appear), and it's also true we've discovered some molecules that prove great efficacy by real direct impact in diminishing pain or suffering, and so old and new molecules including psychedelic ones are now being (re)discovered in psychotherapies and biopsychosocial interventions in communities. with apparently great results. So, a new more rational approach on how we look at drugs would be important, peoples informed and participating in meaningful ways, and pharma transparent and accountable can still find bridge of good, hope and beauty for the lives of millions now using all different kind of drugs, and for those we will need them in the future, and also a new way of looking at "diseases", not as labels or even discrete invention but looking at each person as a complex situations where one finds the biopsychosocial reality working as a whole person. There are people that are for many many years using drugs to decrease pain and suffering, or to be able to cope with the person's subjective life and health and well-being, so all these people has to have proper care, and even consider in some cases to be paid some kind of compensations for the fucked up world we're living nowadays and it's impacts on many human beings. Please don't put drugs off market or with harder barriers to access, because this is the minimum society can provide, given there's not an alternative prepared to what we have, we have to go step by step, and find new and better drugs in all human areas of experimenting... Health and well-being is not to take good drugs away, but it should be good use of drugs and also the construction of real alternatives for most people who needs drugs... There's always much more to look at... But it is insane the Pharma Business and has to change... thanks for the lecture.

    Do you remember the instant when you became conscious of being? I do, I was 9 months old when it happened to me, my mother told me, many years later. It is the same like waking from a deep sleep, you see reality as it is. We have been prepared physical by nature, from conception, to become endowed with a consciousness that makes us functional in this world. Humanity has a right ambitious to try to explain everything, be it God, reality or consciousness. Things are very difficult to explain scientifically but the conception of the mysteries of life must be with a modest sense of our mental limitations and capacities.

    Donald Hoffman’s theories on consciousness, particularly his "Interface Theory of Perception," argue that what we perceive is not a direct representation of reality but rather an evolved interface that helps us survive. This theory proposes that our perceptions are akin to a desktop interface on a computer, hiding the complex "reality" behind icons that are easy to interact with but do not represent the true nature of the underlying processes. Hoffman's Key Concepts: 1. Interface Theory of Perception: Our perceptions are evolved shortcuts to help us navigate and survive in the world, not accurate representations of the objective reality. 2. Conscious Realism: The idea that consciousness, rather than the physical world, is the fundamental component of reality. According to Hoffman, space-time and physical objects emerge from consciousness. Potential Fallacies and Criticisms: 1. Ontological Subjectivism: - Fallacy: Hoffman’s stance can be seen as ontological subjectivism, where reality is fundamentally dependent on our perception of it. This view neglects the existence of objective reality independent of our perceptions. - Just because human perception is limited does not mean that an objective reality does not exist. This perspective fails to acknowledge the scientific method's ability to reveal aspects of reality beyond direct human perception. 2. Anthropic Bias: - Fallacy: Hoffman’s theory could be critiqued for anthropic bias, the assumption that human perception uniquely determines the nature of reality. - While our perceptions are tailored for survival, other species perceive the world differently. This diversity in perception across species suggests that perceptions are varied adaptations to the same underlying reality. 3. Non-Falsifiability: - Fallacy: Hoffman's hypothesis may suffer from non-falsifiability, meaning it is structured in a way that it cannot be empirically tested or refuted. - For a scientific theory to be robust, it must be subject to testing and potential refutation. Hoffman's views on consciousness as the basis of reality can be seen as metaphysical speculation rather than scientific theory. 4. Misinterpretation of Evolution: - Fallacy: Hoffman interprets evolution as prioritizing survival utility over truth in perception, but this interpretation can be considered a false dichotomy. - Evolutionary processes can and do favor accurate perceptions when they enhance survival. While perceptions are not perfect, they are often reliable enough to allow organisms to interact successfully with their environment. 5. Existential Dependency: - Fallacy: Hoffman’s claim that neurons and the brain don't exist without perception seems to imply a form of existential dependency that conflates epistemology (study of knowledge) with ontology (study of being). - The existence of neurons and the brain is substantiated by extensive empirical evidence. Neuroscientific studies show that brain activity can be measured and studied independently of any single individual's perception. Balanced Perspective: While Hoffman's theories provoke thought and encourage deeper exploration of the nature of perception and consciousness, they often stretch into philosophical rather than empirical domains. It's important to distinguish between useful metaphors or frameworks for understanding complex phenomena and claims that can be scientifically validated. Hoffman's ideas stimulate valuable discussions about the limits of human perception and the possible foundational role of consciousness, but they should be approached with critical scrutiny and a clear understanding of their speculative nature.
