I love this Man. Such a Mensch! ❤
I was there... So beautiful Tromso!!!!
Moral of the story: when it comes to marrying someone, if you first reaction is I don’t know, they’re not the one for you. But clearly him and Evie were meant to be. The fact that so many years later, he’s completely smitten with her is absolutely adorable and it’s why you should never settle when it comes to a partner.
I wish I had his faith. My son died. My father and brother died. I feel God don't love me.
Fred again brought me here. This was very profound.
I’ve been trying to find out what song the band is playing ever since I discovered this clip - does anyone know?!?
Colbert, YOU ARE THE MAN! Love you & your wife. Both have genuine smiles. You always hear / read one person of a couple is better than the other or you’re punching above your weight … yeah right! You too are just devine. Cheers 🥂
this conversation is so so poignant. i love what stephen says, "it merely amplifies the enormity of the room who's door is now so quietly shut."
Colbert is a national treasure… so is Evie.
I can’t imagine how he dealt with 9/11. I would imagine it was a mesh up of ptsd & a lot of full circle moments of helping others with your own experiences and grief.
:)))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Colbert is just one of those people. :)
this was the short version???
Honestly this is the realest interview I’ve seen on tv. It felt like the cameras weren’t even there.
I am seeing this for the first time in 2024. My son sent me the link after I told him about Steven Colbert's recent interview with Paul Simon. (amazing) I love this interview with Anderson Cooper on so many levels. How great to these men really being in the moment; freely being their authentic selves. They allow themselves the freedom to be real. They let themselves remember and permit themselves to feel as they go deep and share openly about grief. The honesty is healing in the exchange that flows between them. Being vulnerable gives them strength. It calls on their humanity. It makes them real. As others have commented on here, these are real men. As a parent it's humbling to know that my son recognizes the magnitude of this. And that as for real men, he stands among them
Wonderful interview/conversation. I lost my mom at 8, then my dad at 16. Huge dips or bumps in the road of life for certain. However, for (nearly) every minus, there's some kind of plus if one looks hard enough. Losing my mom nearly crushed me, but her death took us to a new town ~ & a fresh beginning (hiding those emotional scrapes) . . . When dad died, I went from a near-adult to "just a teen" in my uncle & aunt's home.
my 18 yr old brother died when i was 9 years old. they feelings and experiences they describe while they were a child themselves at the time is very relatable. the world looks different when you grow up into adulthood with that particular pain and loss.
Love that story
Just yes...
Namedropping the Fagles-translation like that.
We want to be able to keep them real as they still are to us...if only others could have also known them, & share the realness of who they were & still are for us!
Could absolutely relate💯💔
I met the love of my life in 2017. We were married in 2020. We both love to watch the beautiful interaction between Evvie and Colbert on the show. We see our love mirrored in them❤
It's impossible to listen to this interview without drawing parallels to my own life and people. I feel so connected to both these men. This conversation is such a gift. They talk a lot about vulnerability and I'm grateful to them both for allowing themselves to be vulnerable in front of all of us.
Beautiful photography! What camera did you use? I also love the mural of the kids spray painting the northern lights. Do you recall what town that was in? We plan to go back soon. My wife became ill on day 3 of our 15 day expedition and we had to get off in Bergen. Alas, it is still on our bucket list.
Thank you:) Sorry to hear that your trip got cut short and I hope you and your wife will have the uppertunity to go again some day. The mural is in Bodø. I used a GOPro Hero 5 and my mobile at the time, think it was Samsung Galaxy 10.
Nice video why did you not speak on the and tell us abort the places
Beautiful ❤
Moral of the story: Don't give a man an ultimatum, he'll drop you in a heartbeat.
I want THAT in a relationship. ⬅️
What an absolutely loved filled interview and conversation
They could make a movie from this story I’d watch it!
I don't believe I've ever seen Colbert pace like this before.
👏THESE 👏ARE 👏THE 👏TRUE 👏ALPHA 👏MEN
It's a great story, but i have to say this shows what a fantastic story teller Colbert is.
Imagine playing DnD for the first time in decades and your dungeon master is MATTHEW FUCKING MERCER?!?!
why do americans feel they need to impress UK people with poetry and culture? there are incredibly cultured americans. there are horribly basic Brits. all people are different people
God I love Colbert and faith
How can a person keep a story this concise and deliver it without a stutter..
keep it short
Wow. I have a new respect for Colbert.
Did he ever get the opportunity to play with Mangianello like they said in the itw?
As someone who has seen much loss, I can testify that these conversations happen most naturally with someone whom you know has seen something similar. Also, Stephen is spot on with his thoughts about being grateful for the emotions of loss. There is bliss in knowing a different form of love that can no longer be selfish, because you gain nothing from loving those who have gone ahead, and yet you can't help but continue in loving.

Such a beadiful story, but for a moment also feel bad for the women he dated for few years.
There is a thing in philosophy that separates people into foxes and hedgehogs. Hedgehogs being people who strongly believe in one certain meaning in life and foxes with many believes about life. I guess Fleabag is a fox and the priest a hedgehog who is obviously very scared of foxes therefor choosing god over her.
❤
What a beautiful story. If you can talk for 2 hours the first time you meet someone, that’s call chemistry and destiny. I wish for everyone to find that kind of love. I know that kind of love, been married 37 years.
Glad you enjoyed it! Crew of M/S Orca!
I've never seen Stepehn so happy.
40 pounds lighter? How skinny was he?
This is one of my favorite stories ever. I watch it several times a year.
