Yes, you can swap a Duramax 6600 and Allison 1000 into a 1988-98 GM 2/4 wheel drive pickup truck. Knowing whether this OBS Chevy conversion could be the "best" is open to opinion, but this truck certainly checks all of the boxes. This is a 2005 video of Lil Red - a 1989 Chevrolet Silverado with a Duramax 6600/Allison conversion, shown here testing the limited slip rear differential and tire traction. Lil Red - Nitrous Backfire - Duramax 6600/Allison Conversion

Duramax/Allison Swap - at the Race Track, Too much nitrous too soon caused the fire to go out during a launch at the 1/4-mile track. You can see a stream of white smoke at the tailpipe, followed by a "pop" once the nitrous had been switched off.
