This channel is all about whatever stuff I'm doing on any given day. Since Covid hit, I've been forced to "retire" and started "doin' stuff". Quite frankly, I've never been busier! I am a jack of all trades / master of none but if something is interesting enough to make a video of, I'll shoot, edit and post it. here's a short list of what you'll see here: Tractor work, Kubota BX 2380 with grapple, Felling trees and processing firewood using my Stihl Chainsaws including the Stihl MS500i, plus various tasks like building stuff around the house and improving our 7 acre property.
Stick A Fork In The Drainage
The drainage project is finally done... for this year, anyway. Everything is looking very good and I am extremely pleased with the results. Time to move on to whatever is next!

Good morning Sam, there is only one concern i have with you digging out that basin. You may not have enough dirt to fill it in when you finish with the drainage pipe project. I get hindsight is 20/20 but make sure you think about that when you do the next steps. Anyway have a great day!
@bradleykuechle7586 Thank you! That's exactly why I'm not starting right away. I will calculate square yardage of fill vs what I will get from the pond. There will certainly be some variances but at least it won't just be a shot in the dark 🤠👍
@@samsdoinstuff just wanted to give you a heads up to my thoughts. I knew you had it all figured out 😉
Sam, I would like to make a recommendation. An issue I have seen with more and more of these types of videos. It was over 4 minutes before "You Started Doin' Stuff". That's over 25% of the entire video. My recommendation is you do a voice over while working, and keeping your audience entertained. Then you can describe what's going on while there's action. I just think it makes for a more action oriented video and keeps your audience engaged. Will see if any comments from this enforce or diminish this perspective. I do enjoy your videos!
@user-bq8gx7le2e Thank you so much for the suggestion. I do listen to my viewers and I always want to improve at everything I do. I will certainly try 🤠👍
Your place is looking great.
@@ronzufelt1428 Thank you SO much!!! 🤠👍
You watch FarmCraft101? did a whole series on building a pond. Always good content on his channel
@@OBD01 Thank you! I've been watching Adam @hometownacres do it for the 3rd time, lol! I'll have to check out the one you suggested 🤠👍
@@samsdoinstuff FarmCraft struggled with a leaky pond also but great how to build a pond with dam
You can't just start digging? Oh contraire! Some of my best and most expensive projects I have started with the word "just" start... Seriously though. I have been watching and wondering if about a 30' gradual swale across that whole area might be a good solution and give you all the dirt you could need if there is such a thing. Starting at the road and coming all the way down. Either way, I know you will get it done!
@@johnpyle8027 You are absolutely right. I could just start. I have a general idea of what to do, but... I still want to do some more weed whacking to get a good view of the pond area. Then, get some areal shots with the drone while I stake out the dimensions. And finally, have the money to buy the remaining pipe and build the catch basin. Ugh! I'll take a break from that for just a bit 🤠👍
Looks good and I like your attachment to the barn. Your property is coming right along. Sure helps to have the right equipment to do the job doesn't it. Keep it up Sam. I enjoy your channel.
@craigwilcoxen1536 Thank you! So glad you liked it! Yes, the hard work is paying off and the right equipment makes it not only possible, but enjoyable too! 🤠👍
Looks great but I thought you started this so you could play with the excavator and you are right about ground hogs and your skills with the excavator are so much better now if you can figure out how close to park the trailer great job
@richardschaffling9882 Haha! Playing with the excavator is a bonus! In fact, everything I need the excavator for is a bonus. Thank you, I'm still slow, but I'd rather be slow and accurate than be fast and destroy something. Trailer placement would be easier with a helper 🤠👍
@@samsdoinstuff true about the trailer
Sam your hard work is paying off , good job. Thanks for all your good videos. Take care.
@@tonygough8713 Thank you! I'm really happy and looking forward to the next step! 🤠👍
Good idea for supporting the pipe from the barn. I wouldn't have thought of supporting the pipe that way.

@user-rv3ij9vm5f Thank you! Others have called them "pokeberry". I understand they are poisonous so I've been trying to get rid of them.
Looks great! 👍👍
@outdoorsinthe608 Thank you Jeremiah!!! Now that it's "done", I really want to dig into those tree service logs 🤠👍
Sam, why did you put the stand pipe bracket so close to the upper boards? Sitting water will rot the ends that are touching. It needed to have a finger gap.
@jamesallen712 Thank you! That's a good point! I can certainly move it down an inch. Someday those barns will be covered in metal siding, but I definitely want to preserve the wood for as long as possible 🤠👍
I see you 'plaming' the steering wheel on the BX a lot. Ever consider a 'spinner'? I love mine! Today's work all looks great. Can I assume your goal was to form a sort of grass waterway that is mowable? Looks great!
@Harry-qf8gh Thank you! I tried a spinner. I still have it. It just wasn't for me. Yes, I want pretty much every surface to be able to be mowed. It seems to me to be the easiest way to maintain a large property without woods 🤠👍
Good jab Sam from Iraq
@alobaidibaghdad Thank you! Glad you liked it 🤠👍
Good morning Sam. That mini excavator sure has proven to be an invaluable piece of equipment hasn't it? Your vision of your property is certainly starting to come to life. It's great to see. 👍
@user-scooter1965 Thank you! Yes, it doesn't just make projects easier, it makes them possible! Someday when all the big projects are done, I just want to mow, make firewood, and drink a beer 🍺 🤠👍
I always wonder what does Sam when he isn't doing stuff for CZcams?
@tuneskramer69 Haha! Great question! I do take some time to relax. Watching my daughter swim or ride her bike in the evenings while enjoying a beverage is probably the most typical 🤠👍
@@samsdoinstuff i wish i got things figured out like you!
I see you are sporting a nice set of what looks like a pair of welding gloves to drive the tractor. Is the steering wheel hot?
@Rusty_ok I do have welding gloves but those are actually bird of prey handling gloves. They have a Kevlar layer inside and that keeps pointy bits from poking through. I usually use them for handling brush 🤠👍 here's a link: Hand Max Versatile Multi Purpose 14inch Cow Gauntlet Leather Kevlar Heat Resistant Gloves a.co/d/aewhJ6K
Have you considered putting tin on the barn walls? Never have to paint again.
@d6joe Yes!!! Actually, that is the long-term plan. But, for now, paint will spruce them up and help preserve the wood. And it won't cost too much 🤠👍
I'm doing this in a few days with the R510A transfer box. I got that one because I needed an outside rated box and it has the 50amp receptacle to match my generator. I like how inexpensive spare breakers are for these Reliant transfer switches, and they give you a list of all the compatible breaker models from the major brands. Watching you will make things go a lot faster for me, thanks!
@@allegory7638 Thank you! I'm so happy I could help. Good luck with the installation 🤠👍
This would be great if there weren't 20 spindles flopping all over the place when I want to put the top rail on. What's the trick???
@@stevenhaley443 Great question! Put all the spindles in the bottom holes, then start at one end with the top rail angled up. Put the spindles in the top rail one at a time and lower the rail into place as you go. It really works well. Good luck! 🤠👍

@@craigguinn5423 Yup. That's the goal 🤠👍
Thank you for this excellent informative video which will provide significant savings. By the way, what gauge wire did you use to connect inlet box to transfer switch?
@gammadas Thank you! Glad you liked it! I used 8 awg wire but 10 awg is sufficient 🤠👍
I have put in plenty and I mean plenty of freezerless hydrants on all my different properties over the years and I always drive a T post down beside them and hose clamp the hydrant pipe to the T post to help support the hydrant I've done it at all my hydrants and have never had a problem with the hydrant laying over after a while. You will be happier over time for doing that. Just a tip from an old rancher. Take it for what it's worth. I enjoy watching your channel. Keep up the good work.
@@craigwilcoxen1536 Thank you very much! Others have also said to secure it to something. It's right next to the barn. I might put some blocking next to it and strap it to that. 🤠👍
Nice job Sam. I bet that you are happy to get that culvert installed. It's going to be so much easier to maintain that area and it will look so much better once the grass grows in.
@JelenOutDoors Thanks Paul! The entire motivation behind starting the culvert project is like you said, to be able to mow and maintain around the barns which I needed to do so I can paint them. If I get that done by the end of fall, it will be a very successful summer 🤠👍
Seems like you should put a 4x4 post into the ground to tie that hydrant onto. Otherwise moving it will put pressure on the connection and it's liable to break. Ask me how I know.
@Fetch049 That is great advice (because it's from experience) I actually thought about securing it to the barn. Thank you! 🤠👍

@@HarleyRiderMC Yes!!! So very true. And as I like to say, "I'd rather be lucky than good!" 🤠👍
Looks a good job. How come you never put a drain near the hydrant/tap ? only curious as only a thought mate
@@rayhitchman4741 Thank you! Great question. Any water from that hydrant will just run along the ground and soak in or maybe go down the drain. Think of a spigot on the outside of a house. As long as the ground slopes away from the structure, you're good 🤠👍
Good morning Sam. Just a word of caution regarding your waterline. Even though you are below the frost line your waterline will be able to possibly freeze underneath the culvert pipe that you installed over it. The reason is that the cold air will flow down the pipe and you don't have the insulation of the ground around that portion of the pipe. Just wanted you to know that if you are going to have problems that is most likely where they will be. A way to protect that from happening would be to blow out the waterline at the end of the year. Good luck and God Bless
@bradleykuechle7586 Thank you! That is a very good point. I obviously don't intend to use that in the winter so you're right, blowing that out will help prevent any freezing issues 🤠👍
Okay next heavy downpour you need to get us some footage of that drain and pipe in action. 😉 looks good👏👏
@OBD01 Thank you! I certainly will. There's still some modifications to be done to the creek to straighten it our and I have future plans to add onto it, but I'm happy 🤠👍
