Summary
Understanding gemstones can be a rewarding experience, especially if that knowledge is shared in simple language and in a truly passionate fashion. In this new program, AIGS and Rui Galopim de Carvalho will take you through a series of short, exciting videos introducing you to the world of ruby.
The learning outcomes and expectations are simple and cover the main aspects of ruby as a gemstone, from basic mineralogy, symbology and terminology, to its history as a gem, not forgetting the role of spinel, main occurrences, the most relevant quality factors, treatments, synthetics and care recommendations.
This program does not substitute for the more technical and advanced gemological courses, but it will surely give you a broader and passionate understanding of ruby as a highly desirable gemological product with a significant historical and cultural heritage.

Portugal really is a 💎of a country! It has been way too long since I have been there! Greetings from Finland! 💙🤍 Apropos, countries, and by extension, languages: in Finnish, I think "purple" would be considered a reddish shade of violet. So, "violet" would be the main category, and "purple" a subcategory? But I am absolutely no expert.

As a GG from Michigan USA...I am on board with this as it is very clear and concise that the name Fei Cui is a broader term that allows for the inclusion of all pyroxenes that make up what we have known as "Jadeite". I for one am going to adopt the term and hope to educate others.

Thanks for the discussion. About 1980 I visited Taiwan a few times and came across a store selling carving made of nephrite Jade. I bought some because in 1980 the carvings were pretty reasonably priced. I'm sort of a private collector of semi-precious gemstones. The way I tell Nephrite from Jadeite is with a specific gravity test. Nephrite being slightly less than Jadeite when tested for specific gravity. In hardness they are hard to tell apart. Nephrite Jade is also somewhat translucent in thinner areas of the material, but not as much as Jadeite. (in my collection anyway)I also have a few small items made of Jadeite. I found some green stones in a river in Japan many years ago that I believe to be Jadeite, but very much occluded with some white mineral mixed within. For the longest time I carried one of these stones for luck with mixed results.

I have a question I would like to ask. From the lecture we know that Feicui is a multi crystallized compound. I also heard a theory says that the top cleaity Feicui with cold tone light is mainly sigle crystal. One of my friend told me that the theroy can not be true since Feicui has to be multi crystallized. However, based on my knowledge I believe all of Jadelite, omphacite and Kosmocholor can probability get into single crystal form in Lab. As a result, can we really rule out the posibility of a single crystal form of Feicui, for instance single crystal form of Jadeite jade?
