I just am now doing a deep dive on Tron. I noticed that this video is from May. have you all changed your perspective as we head into September? I am seeing positive new stories and rising prices and rank as well as Meme coin mania and tether using Tron so Im confused. have things changed since May or do you all hold the exact same opinion as you did back then? keep in mind. Im asking about the Blockchain/token not the poor ethics of the man.

It may be my historian bias, but to me all of these things happening now with crypto and VCs are just replaying the very early days of stock markets. I know people will still say the US stock market is a scam, but many years of scandals, crashes, and resulting regulations have made the chances of retail investors being blatantly robbed much less likely. They called the Gilded Age market leaders the Robber Barons for very good reasons. Iterative regulation will never be a perfect solution, it’ll always be behind the curve, but it has worked to a degree.

These types of allegations have been floating around since 2017. Maybe it's a Wirecard type of scenario and it takes 10+ years for this particular house of cards to fall. It's possible, but it hasn't worked so far, and to be honest with you, I'm heavily invested in Bitcoin - both financial and ideologically - so there's is much greater utility in Bitfinex and Tether getting away with it...whatever 'it' is. EDIT: Interesting findings and informative content, nonetheless!

Another trick for figuring out the formal legal name behind a company - trademark search, and see who owns it. T&Cs and copyright notice are also very good places to start, though depending on how professional of an operation it is, those can be wrong. Separately, “weird numbering thing” with Canadian corps - you have to pay extra and jump through some extra hoops to name a corporation, eg a paid search to make sure the name is available. Default is a number, it’s cheaper and faster.

I concur with Cas that some of the most problematic voices in venture capital tend to dominate the narrative excessively. We need regulations that preserve the advantages Travis highlighted while mitigating the negative outcomes Cas discussed. This conversation has reinforced my belief that such regulation is not only necessary but also feasible. For instance, imposing a cap on fund sizes could be a practical measure that tempers the excesses of venture capital without undermining its effective elements. This dialogue has underscored how realistic and constructive conversations can yield potential courses forward when moderated voices lead the discussion.

Everybody examining what Kimmel has to say as intellectual is misunderstanding other dynamics at play. The free market economy open to financialisation, for which modern capitalism is predicated upon are massively beneficial to groups of people for whom borders are no boundary for inter ethnic cooperation. A socialist society where the governemnt oversees finances, will utltimately be a tougher nut to crack from the perspective of international finance. From an ethnic perspective, some interest groups benefit more from one arrangement versus others. This outlook can be taken to its extreme with Ayn Rand, once seen through the lense of ethnic ingroup preference, the commitment to the ideology of capitalism begins to make sense.

Why does he like capitalism?

There is no real free market there is no true capitalism, as proved back when the US Govt bailed out Chysler, the Banks in 2008, Silicon Valley etc, the US currently set up to privatize all Gains, and socialize all loses. We are a corporatocracy, giving lip service to both Democracy and Capitalism. This was not always the story but, that is no longer the state of affairs.

I want to object to something you said at 37:00. The NTSB is not a regulatory body. They investigate incidents and issue recommendations, but the recommendations are non-binding. They do not make any rules.

The guest is just…not a very good capitalist. He recognizes all of the bad things that capitalism ultimately becomes, but fails to recognize those late stage outcomes as capitalism.

Capitalism is bad. It’s bad for the environment. It’s bad for workers. There is absolutely nothing healthy about that structure, but let’s be real here. You don’t give a fly fk about that. VC’s are nothing more than a rigged casino. Take Sequoia “investing” massive funds in FTX only to have FTX quietly return those most of those funds. In other words, fraud. What is being discussed here is not Capitalism, though. That died in 2008 with the nationalization of the banks without any of the benefits to society of nationalization. What this is Yanis Varoufakis describes brilliantly is Technofeudalism. Capitalism could have been a real boon to society if the social relations had been organized around need not profit. The way Capitalism was structured you get entitled insufferable aholes like all in guys…and basically this guy.

I think there's a faulty conflation of markets and capitalism. Capitalism wants to destroy markets, because markets force them to compete. They just want to make the money.

I think what drives me the craziest is this argument of "capitalism not bad, we just do bad capitalism." Im glad the self-avowed capitalist guest recognizes the centralising power of the corporation but then he goes on to claim capitalism is about small and local but excuse me, what?! For all of capitalist history the system tends toward centralising power because thats what power does. Liberetarians and the like always go in for this idealized market capitalism but that is an unstable fixed point if it exists at all. A winner emerges and feeds back to win even harder, the frontier encloses and the players consolidate, the system of profits-first incentives capture of markets and those who police it. That is the stable fixed point. All the "bad capitalism" doesn't come about because we lost our way or something, it is the inevitable end point, or at least until a cataclysmic failures comes about.

Love the podcast. Just throwing out, since you’re a very important role in critiquing crypto, reducing socialism as silly, maybe read Capital Vol 1, 2, 3. You may find your views have a bit of an echo in a lot of what Marx addresses in his critique of Capitalism. Marx is misunderstood by many that claim to be experts and much of what is attributed to his ideology would be quite a surprise to him. Then again, he himself said he would be anti Marxist the way he was represented.

Capitalism died in 2008 when the banks and Wall street were bailed out, we just have not come to terms with it yet. We need a new system. Fun fact. Cicero invented capitalism, but his system also had morals as an integral part. Also. One of the cornerstones of a free market is free movement of labor. That is not happening, so there is no free market.
