Is Forefoot Running Faster than Heel Strike Running? YES!
Another report has found yet another reason forefoot running is faster than heel strike running and that is due to better leg spring compression, which means the leg works better as an energy-saving spring if a forefoot strike is engaged. If a heel strike is engaged, the leg quickly becomes an ineffectual, sloppy spring that is also over-burdened by competing forces that are amplified with increased running speed.

Why is Running on Your Forefoot Better
zhlédnutí 829Před 5 měsíci
The big reasons running on your forefoot is better is that it naturally increases step-rate or cadence, which means the feet spend less time on the ground, whereas a low cadence means the feet spend more time on the ground. The clinical importance of a higher run cadence via forefoot striking is that it engages an interaction of the foot with the ground that is so brief that many forms of impac...

Can You Run with High Arch Feet? Yes, Just Don't Heel Strike!
zhlédnutí 1,6KPřed rokem
You can absolutely run if you have high arches! Just remember the best way to connect with the ground if you're a high arched runner is on your forefoot NOT your heel! This is because forefoot running was found to do a better job at engaging the arch in a more functional manner as a shock absorber (REGARDLESS of arch height) vs heel strike running. It turns out the arch loads differently, in a ...
There’s NO Way To Heel Strike Safely When Running
zhlédnutí 512Před rokem
It’s well-known that landing heel-first when running is the biggest producer of injurious impact. Forefoot Running is NOT Toe Strike Running
zhlédnutí 952Před rokem
Forefoot running mistakenly gets confused as being toe strike running, which is a completely different foot strike pattern that is very damaging! This is because in toe strike running, where initial ground-contact is made high up on the toes, the heel never contacts the ground, which was found to place enormous stress and strain on the lower leg, resulting in shin splints. In forefoot running, ...
Why Forefoot Running is Safer For Your Feet Than Heel Strike Running

Is Heel Striking Bad for Shin Splints?
zhlédnutí 510Před rokem
Running heel-first causes shin splints! Research has found that after the heel strikes the ground, the forefoot smacks hard onto the ground, causing an audible slapping noice. The forefoot-slapping caused unusual prolonged contractions of the shin muscles, leading to pre-mature muscular fatigue and cramps. In forefoot running, shin splints is resolved because at touchdown there's a smoother pla...

This is not the reason. Natural elasticity is a contributive, but the main reason the forefoot’s generally faster is because it’s usually associated with footfall closer to the center of mass. Acceleration can’t begin in the stride until the hips pass the forefoot according to physics, so the less overstride = less time to falling forward & accelerating. If we reach out onto the forefoot overstride will occur, & the quicker acceleration advantage isn’t there. The closer to hip landing’s also the reason for less associated injury risk, & that is squandered as well if we reach out 🏃🏼‍♀️no matter what part of the foot lands first.

Last year I went on a 5k run that I was ready to skip out on due to hip joint pains. I focused on walking only on my front pads of my feet with NO heel strikes, completed the 5k and my hips and knees actually felt better. Only my calves were exhausted because I had never actually challenged them for that long a period of time. I was stiff for several weeks to a month..but not in pain. I was thrilled with the result and am looking at the sport line over the current daily wear with hemp material - which are my go to for super comfort going out and about.

good god this video is worth more than 1000 of the other results on the front page. I'm so glad i found this I do think, you were trying to force the newscaster cadence for enunciation, but it does not suit your voice and your microphone quality is high enough that you did not have to do it. If you want to try the newscaster cadence regardless, I think with your version of the newscaster voice is going sound a bit different than the classic version you'd typically hear on TV. Its like you tried to force a forefoot strike in a high drop shoe, the result ended up sounding quite unnatural. But the content is 11/10 thank you so much

I can't speak for what she would say but I have done a decent bit of barefoot running and almost all of it has been on asphalt. I've never experienced any shredding of skin. That would only occur if you deliberately scraped your feet along the ground. However I don't know if by callous you mean a single location of thick and raised skin like we get on our hands or if you just mean the general thickening and hardening of skin evenly across the whole foot, which is the only thing I have ever experienced and so there isn't really anything to shred off since it's all even, unless again you deliberately scraped your feet along the asphalt or especially concrete. But only one time a few years ago while running on concrete (I don't know if the concrete was specifically relevant compared to asphalt) did I experience an odd event where one spot on my left foot about a half inch long got rubbed raw and I honestly don't know why because nowhere else did and it only happened that one time. It healed just fine and was the hardest and strongest part of both of my feet for a few months before finally going back to being like the rest of my skin. The main thing is start slow and pay attention to your feet, if you push yourself to a blister that's too far.

I've noticed a wear pattern on of my shoes that showed I was applying a horizontal force instead of popping off the ground. This I think is a result of tension in that leg that was compensating for as weak back. I've found that having a slight forward lean to engage my anterior muscles and tendons. This is completely wrong and has many contradictions. First, Dibaba is not "leaning." her upper body is tilted forward at the waist/hip. Instead of looking like a rigid metal pole, her posture resembles a pole that is bent in the middle (at the waist) due to that forward pelvic tilt. In running, this forward pelvic tilt has always been seen as a detriment because it prohibits the femur from achieving a full range of motion/amplitude, i.e.: allowing it to reach a position where it is parallel to the ground. That being said, when sprinters are compared to distance runners, distance runners do not put as much force into the ground as sprinters and there for a full range of motion/greater amplitude of the femur is not a focus in distance running. Nonetheless, a forward pelvic tilt does not allow for an efficient transition of forces to travel through the body and into the ground. If a hammer hits a bent nail, that nail will bend more as the forces are being directed in 2 directions. Second, tilting the pelvic girdle forward places undue stress on the lower back and hamstrings as well as the quads upon ground contact. Shifting that center of gravity slightly forward is akin to a front side squat with weights Vs. a regular squat with weights. Think about it....Have you ever seen Ethiopians carrying a jug of 5 to 10 gallons of water? They are carrying it on their back, not their front side. Why? It is more difficult to move forward with weight on the front side. This is one of the things that a forward pelvic tilt does....adds weight to the front side as that center of gravity has been shifted slightly forward. Third, the hamstrings are most active during the end of the swing phase of a running stride. When you "pull" your body forward (as this video suggests) the hamstrings must also engage. So, this video is implying that the hamstrings engage upon extension, ground contact, and during the pulling action. This would mean the hamstrings are engaged throughout the greater portion of cyclic turnover. I would argue that is simply not the case. Fourth...you will notice in the video that Dibaba's calf muscle concentrically contracts and relaxes once her foot leaves the ground in her back-side mechanics in order to begin the recovery phase. This is evidence that her foot is actually pushing her forward (dorsi flexion to plantar flexion). This means it is active and not passive as the video suggests. Fifth, at the end of the video, it states "the foot is removed from the ground because the leg spring pulls it up." For a spring to unleash, it must first be compressed, i.e. a force mush push down on it to sore the energy that will cause it to go "BOING." That action of a spring in this context is not a pulling one. It is an instantaneous release of potential energy transitioning to kinetic energy. It is akin to an explosion. An explosion from the ground up (this implies a push, not a pull). Sixth, the video contradicts itself by stating "BOING. The spring decompresses and shoots up off the ground." toward the end, but at the beginning of the video, it stated "If Dibaba was pushing for propulsion, then her stride would be choppy, BOUNCY, ..." Something that perpetually "shoots up off the ground" implies "bouncy." By the video's own premise, we can conclude that Dibaba is pushing and not pulling because when something bounces off the ground, it is pushing off the ground (like a basketball),.....not pulling.
