Skull Art Project Close Up
zhlédnutí 29Před 2 lety
This is a project inspired by my girlfriend, she came up with the initial concept and I put my own twist on it. At the moment it's powered from USB, but the next step is to have it battery powered for a cleaner look! At the moment the LED pattern is just the neopixel demo code, I plan on replacing that with something more final soon.

Added spiral, rain, bouncing ball & fireworks animations. The Sphere consists of 16 slices with 19 WS2812 LED's per slice and uses a single atmega328 at 16mhz to control everything. The sphere is powered by a 2200mAh Li-PO battery & can be recharged through a USB port. A Teensy 3.2 "master" slice with an accelerometer is in the works and will be ready soon. Inspiration came from Nikolay Nikitin...

    Great demonstration: My only thought is that it looks to be a bit oversensetive (constantly making micro-adjustments to keep the tracked object in the center of vision). This could waste power and shorten battery life. My suggestion would be to increase the amount that the object can deviate from the center of vision. Maybe create a radius from the center that the tracked object should stay within, and if it goes out of bounds it adjusts to put it back in the center. That way it's making fewer adjustments, but when it does it's correcting completely.

      I do plan on putting everything up on instructables.com, at the moment I am playing with different MCU's. I started with an ATMEGA328 and quickly ran out of memory, then built a version that uses a Teensy 3.2 with lots of memory but no connectivity, so I just ordered an ESP32 since it has bluetooth & wifi.

    • @davidhend
      @davidhend Před 5 lety

      To program the nano with the PixyProgramHeightWidth code you will want to use Arduino IDE 1.0.6 and the Pixy library to compile & upload the code to the nano. My guess is that the pixy library is missing from your libraries folder, which is why your IDE cant find pixy.h. I did not write the Pixy library but should be easy to find with google, download it and load it into your IDE and then try to compile/upload. Let me know if you have any trouble.

    where on the hexapod did you place the MEGA and the Nano?

    • @davidhend
      @davidhend Před 5 lety

      The Mega is underneath the ps2 receiver on top, the receiver had two red LEDs. The UNO was small enough to put in the body of the robot under the camera. Hopefully that's clear enough.

    • @davidhend
      @davidhend Před 7 lety

      I would think so, however I have no experience with that board. Also the software will most likely be different but don't know the specifics. Since you already have the mega you could try writing a small program to talk to the SSC32 to move a single servo a set distance, it is really easy to do that. This would let you know if you have things wired correctly and the baud settings on the SSC32 match the mega. Good luck with your project and let me know if anything else comes up.

      Sorry, I meant to reply sooner but got busy and forgot. You will need to make sure to add the PS2X_lib library included in the GIT repository into your Arduino IDE. • @davidhend
      @davidhend Před 9 lety

      linkspyder So I am using two UBEC's; one for the servo controller & servos, the second powers the robot's MCU's and PS2 receiver. The reason they are separated is because the servo "noise" causes problems with the RF for the PS2 receiver. Both UBEC's are 8A but can handle bursts up to 15A. I got them from hobby king at the following: www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__6233__TURNIGY_8_15A_UBEC_for_Lipoly.html In regards to the batteries, for the servo's UBEC, I connect a 3S 11.1V 2200mAH Lipo battery; and a 2S 7.4V 1650mAH for the robots logic. Let me know if you have any other questions, I will do my best to answer them quickly.

  • @toskr-r4t
    @toskr-r4t Před 9 lety

    Looking very good :) I'm still on the drawing board with my model, I was originally working on a Quadruped based purely on the costs saving of only animating 4 legs instead of 6. But having done some research I decided to put it on the back burner for now until I have a lot more experience and refocusing on a slow Hexapod build. I have done some crude table top load tests on some TowerPro micro servos (MG90, SG90 and the new SG92) and have been very disappointed with the results. Of the 3 types the SG92 was the strongest of the 3 and i am as confident as i can be these are genuine tower pro. The MG90 are almost certainly poor clones as they came from a Hong Kong source via eBay and barely function at all (I will never learn lol). Not sure about the SG90. They perform better than the MG90 but the gears strip long before the motor stalls. I will be up-scaling the model to use the standard size servo. Just need to make a decision on the servo to use.

    • @magnuswootton6181
      @magnuswootton6181 Před 2 lety

      gears strip before the motor stalls??? that sounds terrible! but the bigger the motors the more power they chew up, so it can be an unbelievable power bill running a stronger robot, all servos in parallel.

  • @toskr-r4t
    @toskr-r4t Před 9 lety

    Have you made any more progress? Was curious to know what servos you decided to use. I was considering Towerpro over Hitec as they offer a lot more torque for the size and they cost a lot less too. Problem is finding an honest source as the market is flooded with cheep clones so im told :(

    • @davidhend
      @davidhend Před 9 lety

      ***** In order to facilitate walking, I used the parts from the quadruped to make a hexapod, plus extra ordered parts. I have also swapped to using a PS2 style remote control. The firmware is also different and allows for more control. In order to make the robot more interactive I added a "Pixy Cam" from charmed labs; I integrated it in such a way that you can train the robot to follow a color of your choice. Here is a video of the progress I have made so far: czcams.com/video/R6kvBNsAwWs/video.html To be honest I am not overly familiar with the Towerpro servo brand; and dont have any personal experience with them. I am quite impressed with the Hitec servos; I am still using 12 HS-422's and 6 HS-645MG's. Ideally you would want all HS-645MG's but the 422's work pretty darn well and really hold up to the abuse; haven't broke one yet. You could always order some the the towerpros and see how they work. I buy almost all my robot parts from robotshop.com, they have always been very reliable and easy to work with.
