    can i plant tomatoes among my chinese mustand greens that have volunteered this year, or can I move them to another bed without harming them?

    • @FromSeedtoSpoon
      @FromSeedtoSpoon Před 10 dny

      Yes, you can plant tomatoes among your Chinese mustard greens, but there are a few considerations to keep in mind. Ensure both plants have enough space to grow, as tomatoes need more room compared to mustard greens. Both plants require regular watering, but tomatoes need more consistent moisture, so make sure your watering schedule meets the needs of both. Both plants prefer well-drained, fertile soil, so if your current bed is suitable for mustard greens, it should be fine for tomatoes as well. Tomatoes need full sun, while mustard greens can tolerate some shade, so ensure the tomatoes get enough sunlight without causing too much shade for the mustard greens. If you decide to move the mustard greens, it's best to do so on a cloudy day or in the late afternoon to reduce transplant shock. Water the mustard greens well before moving them, and prepare the new bed by loosening the soil and adding compost if needed. Carefully dig around the mustard greens to keep as much of the root system intact as possible, and replant them at the same depth they were growing before. Water them well after transplanting. By following these tips, you can successfully grow tomatoes among your mustard greens or move them to a new bed without harming them.

    Is it a perennial?

    • @FromSeedtoSpoon
      @FromSeedtoSpoon Před 10 dny

      Yes, thyme is a perennial herb. This means it can live for more than two years, continuously growing and producing leaves year after year. Thyme is a hardy plant that can thrive in various conditions, making it a popular choice for herb gardens. It typically requires well-drained soil and plenty of sunlight to flourish.

    First thank you! Excellent advice. I seeded Nasturtiums in my greenhouse then transplanted to gardens in late May in North Tx. Then the massive rain & cooler temps came for 3 weeks. Some died a few are presently fighting for their survival but better after 3 days of sun. Should I try seeding directly into my vegetable garden soil as heat returns next week to mid 90. I do have 55% shade cloth over my. Thank you! 6:30

    • @FromSeedtoSpoon
      @FromSeedtoSpoon Před 10 dny

      You're welcome! Given your situation, seeding nasturtiums directly into your vegetable garden soil as the heat returns could be a good idea. Prepare the soil by loosening it and mixing in some compost to improve fertility and drainage. Plant the seeds once the soil has warmed up and temperatures are consistently in the mid-90s, as nasturtiums thrive in warm weather. The 55% shade cloth you have will help protect the seedlings from intense midday sun and reduce heat stress. Keep the soil consistently moist until the seeds germinate and the seedlings are established, but be careful not to overwater, as nasturtiums don't like waterlogged soil. Sow the seeds about 1/2 inch deep and space them according to the packet instructions, typically about 10-12 inches apart for optimal growth. Monitor the seedlings for the first few weeks, ensuring they are not stressed by heat or lack of water, and adjust the shade cloth if necessary to provide the right balance of sun and shade. By following these steps, you should have a better chance of successfully growing nasturtiums directly in your vegetable garden soil.

      So could I put it in a container right next to the raised beds where the tomatoes are growing? I'm growing a few types of basil as well as a few types of tomatoes in different locations. I'd love to try putting them in containers and setting them right next to the beds where the tomatoes are growing. That way, I can move them to the house or greenhouse in winter.

    Thanks for the water propagation tip! I bought a little (rescued, basically) some Italian Oregano at Home Depot a year ago, it grew and was evergreen in my zone 5b-6a! I thought, for sure it would wither and die down but nope! I originally got it so I could plant in next to my Rose of Sharon hibiscus plant to repel deer (but my one son loves to pick some for his little soup creations 😄) I definitely want a wave/drift of these for my other plants like hostas (which apparently are deer salad 😩) There is also a more chartreuse colored ones called, "Drops of Jupiter' - Ornamental Oregano - Origanum hybrid" by Proven Winners- I hope these will be evergreen for me! 🌿
