Why everybody think that if you are using a firewall in Linux then you must be using it in your server and not in your desktop??!! Note, normally you don't have a unique public IP because your internet provider is letting you share the IP with other people. So this is in most cases NOT a good way to block all users except yourself...

I use csh. Frequently I type in "echo <cntrl-g>" after submitting a long job. That shows up on the screen as "echo ^G". When the job is done my computer makes a sound. Instead of pushd and popd I "set a = $cwd" in one directory and "set b = $cwd" in another directory. So when I want to go to "a" or "b" is just "cd a" or "cd b".
