I do the same thing in my home. I only cool the end of the house I am in at the time, electricity cost is crazy these days. I use those ugly window a/c’s for the summer. The home is older so there’s no central air. I know there’s ways to get central a/c installed, but our summers are short and nowhere near as hot as Texas lol
