    How much did the parts cost for the laser cutter? Whats the x-y axis size (bed axis). Laser dioide? Are you going to do a build overview video with a BOM / parts list etc? Thanks!

  • @Stuff-i-Like
    @Stuff-i-Like Před 3 měsíci

    What sort of laser do you use to cut foam, esp XPS / extruded / Depron foam? Ta.

    • @ZigWarner
      @ZigWarner Před 3 měsíci

      I was using an 8 watt diode laser with blue light. (I don't know the exact wavelength but it was in the 405-450 nm range.) It worked decent but the quality of the laser and optics wasn't great. I was able to cut up to 1/2" EVA foam. Pretty much any dark color EVA would cut pretty well. I still have the machine but this summer I plan on building and entire new setup and documented the process with a parts list so that others can build one as well if they wish.

    • @Stuff-i-Like
      @Stuff-i-Like Před 3 měsíci

      Ta, ill just get a cheapy and see how it goes, else cut paper, stick it to the foam and cut by hand, per model there is not much XPS, though this would be an interim method. A 8 to 10W diode job should do the trick. Think focus optics are v important, enegry density etc might look at / upgrade that.

    • @Stuff-i-Like
      @Stuff-i-Like Před 3 měsíci

      Else buy a plotter / knife cutter if they still exist, probably pretty cheap used units i would think.

    • @Stuff-i-Like
      @Stuff-i-Like Před 3 měsíci

      So from further research it seems a low power fiber laser is best for what i want to do ie many types of media with fairly small thicknesses, ~5 to ~10 mm max. Seems you can buy somthing roughly sized like A3 paper, say 400 x 400 mm, with an 8 Watt fiber laser for around AU$500. Cool. Now, do i build a 3 axis CNC base to support 3 modules, 3D print, laser eng/cut, CNC or buy seperate units. If i build it properly as 3-axis base plus 3 pretty much seperate marking engine sub-systems then it may work well. Interesting. Thanks again. And then i will require decent 3D scanning, finally might be getting somewhere ;-)

    So if I'm using "sound absorbing" materials does the material itself actually "hang on" to the sounds it's been absorbing and then allow me to recall those sounds in the order they were stored by simply squeezing the sounds out of the material when I want to re-hear what I've stored.

      Not always. 🙂 Rock wool typically can't absorb any frequencies higher than 8000 Hz. (This cutoff will vary by type and brand.) I have a lot of computer equipment that emits some higher frequency noises, thus why I added a layer of open cell foam over the top of everything.

    • @tubeo94
      @tubeo94 Před 3 měsíci

      I agree. Rock wool with a bit of spacing with the wall can absorp high frequencies. For bass we use denser and thicker bass trap. For higher frequencies noise of electronic equipment. I have never have issues with. We have 2 analog synths but never encountered any electromagnetic interference.

    This is lazy reporting, it doesn’t matter if you click yes or no, you will still be stuck with the new playlist UI. Why would you uninstall the game?

    • @ZigWarner
      @ZigWarner Před 2 lety

      This isn't lazy reporting. This is a first hand encounter. I was playing Apex Legends myself when I encountered the message. I knew right away this was a hacking breach. Since I'm a Google certified IT specialist that deals with cyber security... I knew that most people wouldn't understand how serious this breach is, so I wanted to warn them. (Hence the video.) Most antivirus software's will recognize Apex Legends as a trusted application because its from a well known company (Respawn). So the game could be modified to do something malicious and the antivirus might not catch it at all. If the hacker was able to modify the game like he did, that means the hacker could also modify Apex files to log your keystrokes, install software, access your bank accounts, check your Gmail, etc. Your entire system can be at risk when a program is compromised. So, safest option with a breach like this is to remove the software from your system until the manufacture has corrected the problem. Better safe then sorry. If you have any question or would like to learn more about cyber security let me know. :-) -Zig
