What is Work Roundtable Discussion
In 2011, to much acclaim and after much activism by domestic worker organisations, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) passed a new and historic Domestic Workers Convention (no. 189) and a Domestic Workers Recommendation (no. 201), aimed at improving the conditions for domestic workers and recognising them as workers, a formal legal status that they had often been denied in national labour legislation. Two events were held on Monday, November 13th 2023 to evaluate the promises and impact of the convention on domestic workers’ everyday experiences and organising efforts.
The roundtable discussion featured a discussion of domestic worker organising in Latin American by four scholars: María Lis Baiocchi (CONICET/FLACSO, Argentina), Friederike Fleischer (Universidad de los Andes, Colombia), Brandon Hunter-Pazzara (Georgetown University, US), and Dario Valles (California State University, Long Beach, US), moderated by Erynn Masi de Casanova (University of Cincinnati, US).

The very definition of a useful idiot, no point listening to this drivel past the 25th minute!
Well, the first paragraph is all about liberal democracies and their focus on individual rights. Life proved JJM wrong. Very wrong. Enough to look closely at rights violations and censorship of all media in US, Canada or EU. Another example is ongoing genocide in Palestine committed by israel and supported by Liberal democracies of the West. His thesis is more of a wishful thinking than the actual reality.
Ironically the US would have been blamed by many had they not intervened. That said, it is time for them, and the world, to learn that perhaps they should no longer get involved.
Liberal democracy with hawkish murderous capitalist imperialism 😂😂😂😂
I want to study here
Great work How to contact with you
Never tired of listening to this Prof. Kohn Mearshimer talk. He is an amazing scholar.
John J Mearsheimer is brilliant.

Hi Mr John ❤🇺🇲🙏😇👋
What a great talk! My oh my! Thank you so much! Why can't people talk like that anymore?
I like what John Mearsheimer has to say BUT I think he has a couple of things wrong. We did not make China rich by mistake. We did not make China rich so they can join the other industrialized nations so we can make the world safe for democracy... Let us take things from the beginning ... The opening of China started with the Nixon -administration . At that time we had two big problems . 1) The war in Vietnam and 2) the problem of inflation that had started with the "Guns and butter" of the LBJ policies We approached China ( the secret trip of Henry Kissinger to China ) and we pretended we were asking them not to allow USSR to supply N.Vietnam with weapons via China and in exchange we allow China to export to US products made in China ... Our real goals were different 1) To bring to US cheap consumer products as a measure that will help us fight the inflation... 2) To create unemployment in the US by exporting our light industry factories to China, as a means of fighting inflation. To weaken the trade unions and in general the US labor movement ... 3) OUR big corporations were salivating at the prospect of selling in the huge chinese market. "Just think if we could sell a coca cola a day to every Chinese person . I remember the Coca Cola CEO saying at the time in support of the Nixon "Open China policy' There was plenty of literature that was documenting this thinking at that time ... for example, have look at the book " Global Reach: The Power of the Multinational Corporations". by Richard J. Barnet, Ronald E. Muller. I do not believe we made a mistake. We did no go to china so we can make the word safe for democracy ... After all we are far from making USA safe for democracy ...
John J. Mearsheimer on the topic of liberal hegemony, the role of the United States in international politics, and the changing global power dynamics. Mearsheimer discusses the failures of liberal hegemony, including the Bush Doctrine, engagement with China, and the crisis with Russia over Ukraine. He emphasizes the shift from unipolarity to multipolarity and the impact on US foreign policy. Additionally, he touches on the role of international institutions and the potential for changes in the institutional structure. Mearsheimer also addresses the future of US-China relations and the challenges associated with a multipolar world. The lecture provides insights into the complexities of international relations and the need for strategic and realistic foreign policy decisions.
Tommy Tamba: 1:02:21 because of that time i'm using Realism to prefer Russian against China but that was a mistakes and at the same times i don't recognize that China and Russia was stabbing me from behind just for the Fake Piece but it was nightmare. 🤣😂🤣😂
Manionggor: Tommy Tamba believes if you choosing Constructivism, that would be the end of Realism.
Ok...I accept that the US is trying to bring liberal democracy everywhere, and failing. But you have skipped India completely. India has a perfect democracy and the largest one at that. They elect their leaders and have rather excessive free press. India has never ever invaded any country. Why the US is trying to change the regime in India, using all means possible? Creating fake news and civil war situation? People of India has elected their government by 2/3 majority, twice and they are absolutely loving the present government. The problem with the US is that this government is refusing to tread the path set by them. So, it's not about setting up democracy all over the world. It's much more than that.
You are 100% wrong. Have you ever been to India or spoken to their people? They are not happy in India and did not overwhelming elected their leader bc they like him. The voted for their leader bc they are scared to death of China. China is building up their Navy and that makes India anxious. It's so cringe when young people say things as if they have any idea what they are talking about. I am willing to bet you have never actually looked into it. Chances are you are just repeating something you heard somewhere and bc it sounds good to you and what you believe, you begin repeating it even though, in reality, you sound ridiculous by saying stuff like this.
THIS $ouL is bought and paid for! Disregard ANYTHING PERIOD from this demons mouth!$$$$$ ! 🔥
I wonder what the Aboriginal Canadians would say about their experience with Canada’s Liberal Democracy?
I don’t understand why John mentioned FUCKING CANADA: is a fascist country!
I am glad Jordan Peterson is not debating John Mearsheimer lest he muddles the whole thing with his tangents and crazy observations!!!
there is a divine central authority unity that protects and prospers nations and peoples when followed
The great delusion is between mearsheimers ears
This is corny. Reality is different. In Russia yesterday there was a huge public demonstration in support of Fail Alsynov of Bashkortostan sentenced to 4 years in prison for voicing dissent about war in Ukraine.
great delusion indeed...
If you're scratching your head and wondering how the latest news headlines could occur in the U.S., there's nobody better than Pippa Norris to shed some light on political dynamics across the nation and world. Great presentation!
The answer is quite simple. Those narcissistic, corrupted and paranoid people from Washington DC want to rule all the planet. Currently they try it to do in a different way. They invented mythical world's government supported by some hating humanity billioners and still try to deluge our civilisation in destruction and misery. Would they finally prevail?
At last someone who can show , with evidence, that US foreign policy has been doing untold damage around the world for a long time.
27:06 By the way, Putin did not officially oppose NATO expansion during his first presidential (2000 - 2004) term nor did Jelzin in May 1997. Search for "Founding Act on Mutual Relations, Cooperation and Security between NATO and the Russian Federation" signed in Paris, France: "The North Atlantic Treaty Organization and its member States, on the one hand, and the Russian Federation, on the other hand, hereinafter referred to as NATO and Russia, based on an enduring political commitment undertaken at the highest political level, will build together a lasting and inclusive peace in the Euro-Atlantic area on the principles of democracy and cooperative security. NATO and Russia do not consider each other as adversaries. They share the goal of overcoming the vestiges of earlier confrontation and competition and of strengthening mutual trust and cooperation. The present Act reaffirms the determination of NATO and Russia to give concrete substance to their shared commitment to build a stable, peaceful and undivided Europe, whole and free, to the benefit of all its peoples. Making this commitment at the highest political level marks the beginning of a fundamentally new relationship between NATO and Russia. They intend to develop, on the basis of common interest, reciprocity and transparency a strong, stable and enduring partnership. This Act defines the goals and mechanism of consultation, cooperation, joint decision-making and joint action that will constitute the core of the mutual relations between NATO and Russia."
😂😂😂bullshit
@@macwizard6232 Yeah , that was in 1997 , shoveled with all force onto the other side that was at it's lowest point ever . After that they protested all the steps , every new ademitted country getting hinted that is just becoming a nuclear target . Offcourse no public debate was ever done to discuss the pros and cons .
The hierarchy of the 3 main goals of the monopolar phase of the liberal hegemon is slightly off. 1. Goal : Open up new markets and build close ties with foreign regimes if it is in the interest of the United States. This can be shortened to « hook the foreign regimes on capitalism » 2. Goal : Only if the local regime is unwilling to open up its markets and have friendly relations with the US, use the fig leaf of « spreading democracy » in order to slowly prepare a regime change (however, the goods and produce or the location of the country must be of strategic interest to the US, keyword : « protect American interests in the region »). 3. Goal : Get the country integrated into international institutions (a direct consequence of goal one). Now why would those mostly economic and strategic goals be limited to a monopolar world? The same goals can be pursued by a hegemon which is only regional. The same goals can even be pursued by an autocratic regime, it only needs to be powerful enough and instead of “spreading democracy” it will build bonds with other autocratic regimes (there is actually no need for a fig leaf stating "spreading autocracy" as those things are mutually understood) and help stabilize each other against third party interest such as those from the US.
I have becom addicted o John Mearsheimer
America never really defeated fascism. It was the soviets. In fact American ruling class had moral support for Nazi Germany because it was opposed to the soviets. More over American foreign policies consisted of supporting fascists all over the world during cold and have supported genocides i.e Bangladesh. This bit of information was missing.
Communism and Fascism are two sides of the same coin. They both owe their ideological foundation in Socialism, which is evil.
boredom boredome 11:10
Thank u professor for being honest about the Ukrainian war there is no way Russia started this new faze too. And zionts movement are not about liberty nor human rights and Russia may hopefully be a part of humanitarian saviours

America is so concerned about RIGHTS that it bombed countries after countries. It even left Afganistan
Maersheimer is a Putin apologist and a hopeless dreamer. He thinks if we reward Putin with land he will stop his conquest. Sorry mr Maersheimer, that's not how the world works. Please go back to your writing desk (and check is the latest Kremlin payments have come through) There is no neutrality if you are Russia's neighbour. Have a look at the map. You are either dominated and Russified (like Belarus) at war or occupied (like Ukraine, Georgia), in NATO, or strong enough to defend yourself. What Putin fears most is a succesfully democratic neighbour. Because then his own people will want that democracy too. Contrast that with non NATO countries that are surrounded by NATO like Switzetland, Austria, or untill recently Sweden. They live in peace and have good relations with NATO. I understand people need a different perspective and therefore listen to Maersheimer. And I understand it's an attractive perspective. One on which "we the West" did something wrong that caused the war. And in which we also could do something else to end it. It would mean that WE are in control. But this is a dreamers perpective. This war will not go away. Putin DOES have imperiiatic ambitions. And the best we can do is arm ourselves and our allies and hope the deterrent is enough.
No wonder America pushed for NATO Expansion. They just wanted to weaken russia at the expense of ukrainian lives.
gee, I'm glad we don't have massive rights violations
Assuming everyone is on the same page. Never happens.
Almost like someone thousands of years ago started something with a deeper understanding of this, smh but the experts got this.
Thist man knows nothing about Russia. Literally anybody in the Baltic states is smarter about Russia than this man
True, unfortunately all praise for this man comes from people far away not affected by the war, and from Russians ofcourse.
