Getting a Watertight Seal on the Sink Drain Assembly
Even after tightening all of the nuts and caulking up the flange, you may still see a trickle of water on the outside of the drain pipe of your sink. This could be caused by a leak through the overflow holes in the pipe even if your sink doesn't have an overflow drain hole. These ports are designed for sinks with drains near the top of the basin to prevent overflowing and onto the floor. Unfortunately, the only line of defense preventing that water from dripping out underneath the sink is usually a rubber gasket around the threaded pipe. If this rubber gasket fails you'll need to resort to reinforcement. The gasket is usually sufficient for the gap between the nut and the underside of the sink, however for leaks along the threads of the pipe you'll want to use some sort of sealant to eliminate flow. If your sink doesn't have an overflow drain on the basin itself, then the most reliable thing to do is block those holes in the drainpipe altogether.
You may need the following:
Caulk: amzn.to/4cSeB9G
Thread Sealant: amzn.to/3zvAaym
Plumbing Tape: amzn.to/4d9VFU7

How To Cut Thick Porcelain Tile Without A Tile Saw

    • @practicalhomeprojects
      @practicalhomeprojects Před 20 hodinami

      Hi. That is going to be tricky. If you can remove the toe-kick and access the space underneath the cabinet, you may be able to squeeze the ductwork in and attach with adhesive or angled screws. The front piece of the Toe-Ductor attaches to the back of the toe-kick, so it shouldn't be difficult. If the space is completely blocked off, you may need to look into rerouting the ducts or disassembling the base of the cabinet to work on it. Best of luck!

    Great video, man! I wanna install a 30amp power inlet for a generator to power my house after a power outage. I’ll probably use 50-60 feet of wire that runs from the back of my house to the front (where main panel is located). Given the scenario I’ve mentioned, what type (brand?) and gauge wire and what type of conduit should I use? Or if you could give me a full list of what I’ll need that’d be great😅

      I think this article will answer most of your questions. practicalhomeprojects.com/?p=138 The brand of your wires/conduit isn't important as long as they are UL rated for the application. Since it is outside, everything needs to be rated for wet areas.

      @practicalhomeprojects Před 26 dny

      Hey there. This test could be used at any point to determine if the shower is completely watertight. If you already know the shower is leaking, then it might not tell you much unless you just want to measure how fast the water is draining out.

    • @F.J._Claes
      @F.J._Claes Před 26 dny

      @practicalhomeprojects It's leaking, but we're trying to find out if it's the pan or the walls. Thanks for your answer. I just didn't know if it would be wise to fill up the pan when it already has been tiled and grouted because I was thinking the excess water may cause the tile to become loose.

    • @practicalhomeprojects
      @practicalhomeprojects Před 25 dny

      If filling the pan with water causes tile to become loose, you'll want to know sooner rather than later. If installed properly, the tiles should never come loose. The vertical surfaces are rarely the source of leaks because water follows the path of least resistance straight down. Leaks usually occur at seams where water can settle.

    I wouldn't use Redgard on any showers. It's known to re emulsify and bleed pink through you grout joints. If you use Aquabar first you won't need to waterproof your shower other then the pan but get that hotmopped, that's the best way to go. If you really want to get down, float your shower with concrete. I floated all my showers until I got too old but then I started using Denshield. Score and snap, way less labor intensive.

    • @practicalhomeprojects
      @practicalhomeprojects Před 26 dny

      Thanks for the input; hopefully we don't have that issue. I've seen hot mopped showers, it looks reliable but not DIY friendly.
