Just another little song I put together for the channel. Set to some leftover dramatic clips from the chainsaw video and some B-roll shot around my yard. Slowmo clips are from the GoPro hero 10 Black, and the other B-roll is shot with the Sony ZV-E10 and the kit 16-50mm lens.

its a AC , you see it loading up with fuel, its only a single carb, clean that thing! let the track rip off the ground, clean out the water in that carb, then idle.( most important make sure your front skis are clean!! thats why the beginning of this video is slow. ALSO with that 340 fan you should have ripped that sled leaning way back to break that trail, it should float! your in 12" of snow!!! 24" in a drift your making that sled look bad.
i paused at 4 mins for this prev comment, just after five mins i seen a nice house, a beatiuful garage and when ya get inside that, everything is broken...7 mins in...is he a dentist? before 8 mins high idle lil rough even after new plugs, so id say clogged jet or water in fuel...8:46 COM" ON OPEN HER UP SHES 2 STROKE...906 YEA hold the throttle tho, clean her out..10 mins in i look as the info on the video, yea change the gas. rule one of summerizing drain that fuel, in fall/winter fresh rec fuel to clean her out and keep her going. NO hate iv been though this, the zr500 is the worst, not because of the motor or cooling but because of all the electronics. but id say overall fix your stuff and fresh fuel before hitting any trails bud. you will be stranded with a cat
Just ripped my new 9N around the house yesterday in 3 High. It was substantially more terrifying than 5th gear wheelies on a dirtbike
Just got a zero turn last year and tired of sliding and spinning all over the place. Looking to replace the stock turf tires with atv tires but most atv tired have lower weight capacity than turf tires. Is that an issue?
I’ve been running these without an issue for about a year now. My long term review is I wish I would have gone more aggressive! Sometimes I’ll slide down a hill with one wheel completely stopped as I’m trying to turn.
Did it change the height of the deck at all?
I’m sure it changed about a half inch or so but I am not able to tell the difference at all
your alternator shows one wire connection. Could you show me where that one wire goes? My alternator has more wires coming out from it. I'll have to make my wiring schematic and draw what wire goes where. It's good to learn from other VAC owners such as from your videos.
I would show you, but I don’t think this thing charges at all. I would be leading you astray!
Take the 340 out of that Puma. And put a 500cc F/C in it. Did that with my daughter's Puma back in 2000.
Sick groove. Love it!

Nice work
You are going to burn out the starter. Yhu don't fix the fuel pump and service the carb.
And change the fuel lines.

Congrats on becoming a father!!
Congrats! And awesome projects! Can't wait to see a barstool cart rolling around eventually!
Thanks Tyler. It’s on the list!
Rod knock.
No way. I have one making the same noise and it is no rod knock. I have the entire engine apart and didn't see anything wrong.
That choke is really blowing your mind through this whole video.
You’re telling me. I guess I was going at little crazier as the video went on.
@@OutsideMedia1 Choke is easy to get to correct setting when you understand what it's doing. When the engine and fuel are cold, the fuel has a difficult time evaporating and creating a vapor. So the choke is used to make the in-cylinder mixture relatively rich for starting. It allows a big dump (relatively) of fuel in, which has a higher likelihood of some of it vaporizing. (if cold, when fuel has a hard time vaporizing anyway, you would get more vapor from 10 grams of gas in 5 seconds than you would from one gram of gas in 5 seconds). With this in mind, try to imagine the state of vaporization inside the cylinder. It's cold. The fuel is probably cold. The fuel does not want to turn to a combustable vapor... Basically that's when you want the choke on. A bunch of times you had the machine running then you opened the choke and killed it. Choke should stay on until the cylinder is nice and warm (warm enough that the gasoline entering is able to turn to vapor easily). If you "feel" this and understand what's happening, the choke is easier to find the right setting for. It also seemed the throttle was set too low for the whole video. A few times I was screaming at my TV for you to put it up a half inch or maybe even an inch. LOL
I'm jelous of your work space
I have a 1975 400 and two Trailfires.
I’d love to happen upon some of the other deere models someday.
Don’t cut the springs. You’ll regret it
I had an 83 that I lowered by cutting a coil and I didn’t hate it. If I did on this truck it would be a little bit just to adjust the rake in the front. Nothing crazy
All great projects I’d love to follow. Too bad about the truck but she can be fixed
Thanks for watching and commenting through the video, keep your eyes peeled!
Tge only way to really bleed the brakes on the Polaris is with a vacuum bleeder, because of the way Polaris setup tge link brakes.. that puma is sweet, I just bought a 90 440 prowler. The tss switches on the carbs are the issue. Look up how bypass arctic cat tss switch
My next step on the puma is bypassing all but the kill switch and see. Probably for next winter at this point. The Polaris brakes started to come back to me last night while I was working on the machine for another video
That jalopy will be awesome!!!!
Congrats on being a dad.
Might wanna Get some Graphite for that Primary Clutch
I will probably give everything a good once over before I take it down the trail.
I Bought a Carb Rebuild Kit for my 400's Wahlbro carb and it works Fine.
The carb that came on this thing had several of the steel tabs inside rust away. There was no coming back and I had that stack of plates apart 10 times. It was enough to make a guy say Mikuni. Lol
@@OutsideMedia1 Yeah it's like Doing Surgery when taking those things Apart 😂
Sweet
Good tune. I use all original music from my buddies band. He takes the vocals out and gives me the music. I play and own a guitar shop.
Thanks! That’s awesome. I’m a guitarist primarily, what’s your rig look like? Most of this music is purpose built for the channel but it gives me another creative outlet and a reason to make some original stuff.
Great channel. Music, snowmobiles, quads, tractors, all stuff I like.. subscribed
Thanks for the encouragement! Spread the word for me!
Deere Sleds rocks
Great job man
Thanks! I’m looking for something to use this engine on
@@OutsideMedia1 You can make a Frankenstein out of it. Generator with belt/snow blower/ Leaf blower etc... Just use what you have Imagination can be powerful.
What if a mechanic set it up so that every problem spot in a car would be lit and have a camera on it and record any problems
I think it would make for some very interesting footage!
We had a 400 and a 500 growing up and been waiting for this video. For some reason the 500 was always trouble, electrical issues related to a magneto.i think. 400 always went, especially with iced throttle. Learning on machine like this makes a person really appreciate modern sleds. 35 mph i made it go one day. One thing we hsd to do was rock it side to side wildly to get to move. 😊
I have a soft spot for this thing. I will probably keep it for a long time. Great for kids to mess around on someday. My short term goal is to get it reliable enough to make the 4 mile ride to the local watering hole on the snowmobile trail loop I live on.
A couple of nice older sleds , have a great time with them !
Thanks! I’ve been enjoying the beater sled life.
you have a bad kill switch
You think that’s why it’s cutting out? I know the kill switch kills when it’s supposed to, but I guess it could be killing when it’s not supposed to.
It’s called TSS. Throttle Safety Switch. In case throttle sticks kills the spark. Sometimes have to push throttle closed to keep from stalling. Can unplug on some models to disable. Is Plugs should be NGK BR9EYA stock #7548
Ahhh the whinnnnnne of the CCW engine nothing else sounds like it...got a 73 with the 440 I restored the entire sled it's like brand new.
Gotta love that CCW sound! I will get this thing running better too. Hoping for more snow this year.
*Promo sm*
Does the Cat need a primer bulb? I’ve never seen one before, but I’ve never had that old of a snowmachine. I have two 1998 ZR600 carb Cats.
The primer is not factory. I did some reading and some dudes like them just to cut down on pulling the engine over after it sits to fill the carb bowl and such. It really does help pull fuel into the carb too. I mainly left it there just because I didn't have a long enough section of line to make it happen when I was getting it running again.
Very interesting video I enjoyedbut don't feel bad about the kill switch. I just got my sled out of the shop. Twin carbs $100 each to clean new fuel lines. Our first snowfall I says I gotta see if this thing is gonna run good. I'm cranking it and cranking it and cranking it. It wouldn't fire. Yep, the kill switch was off.
Glad you enjoyed. I never fell bad if I learn something new, even if it is a stupid lesson! Hope we both remember the kill switch next time.

Mine don’t dog down it boogies good actually the seat looks terrible but one day I’ll redo it
I think I need fresh fuel and new plugs. I have both in the works!
That was my first sled I ever bought. I know who has it and I’ve been trying to buy it back.
Persistence pays off. I’ve always had a soft spot for these early John Deere’s and old sleds in general.
Let's see how many people comment or like this. I had a blast on mine again today. It might be a 340 that I have. But if your in snow and you pin it wide open you can feel it pulling the right ski up
So she dangles....? haha
@@OutsideMedia1 doesn't really pull the ski up. But you can feel it torquing the right side. Nothing like wot on snow and ice with something that has no studs. Its fun. Gotta be alert. Lol. Being that it's got no studs and I'm hauling on the hard packed stuff, you can get sideways when you grab all brakes
@@MichiganMade82 I was glad the puma had no studs when I was riding around my yard because I had to kick it sideways to turn around in my driveway!

We will have to see if we get hit with some snow again!
Any sled older than about 15 years should have the fuel line in the tank replaced! Folks always think its the fuel pump but nope its the rotted line in the tank.
I agree! It was always at the back of my mind but I just didn’t want to admit it!
