Seems like using "sawmilling" instead of "milling" attracts more viewers. Of course better quality videos will do the same thing. Or so I've been told.

They love that white white maple in Japan. And it always bows on me when sawing lol...
Vanilla isn't bad...especially with some Hersey's syrup on top 🤣 Good job Dave!
Those maple make good stake lumber, another good video Dave
I really hope your using metal detector on logs before you start cutting them , the last person i watched his videos he ate blade due to piece cable wire was grown in tree over time, thanks for reading my helpful hint 😊
Generally, I use the blade as the metal detector. It ALWAYS works; if there's no metal it tells me and if there IS metal it let's me know also.
What does Matt do with all this beautiful lumber?
He has a kiln. Then sells the lumber online.
THAT WAS SOME BEAUTIFUL WOOD❤
Yes it is Sue. I told you the video was coming.
Nice boards Dave. Thirty years ago I used yellow birch for an exterior door threshold and it has held up wonderfully. Most, if not all, log scales were developed for circular mills and their wider kerf cuts but it is still a good feeling to beat the scale!
Thanks Paul. Milling boards like these is what makes running the mill so much fun.
Beautiful boards Dave great job. Dave give me a call I have a shirt to send you .
Thanks Paul. I'll call later.
Busy is good, glad to see you back. That is one nice maple log. No one seems to appreciate clear lumber anymore. Everyone wants character.
I'm one who also loves character in lumber. I can appreciate nice, clear lumber but it just doesn't grab my eye when I see it. Dave
I worked in a Southern Yellow Pine mill as a saw filer for 20 years. The place drained the life out of me. Not the job, or the production of lumber, but the toxic work environment. I left the job 2 years ago. Last week, I set up a new Woodmizer LT15 Start. It has reignited a love for sawmilling that I forgot I had. Great video! The Maple is beautiful.
If you ever want to revisit a toxic work environment give me a call. I can supply one. Dave
@@TheOldManAndTheSaw 🤣 I learned some great skills there. It wasn't bad when I first went there, but the owner passed it to his daughter and son-in-law who let everything go downhill.
Good job Dave, I especially like the shadow hand gestures telling Matt you were going to roll it more.
Paul, you're the only one who will catch that; and you're EXACTLY right. I also do dogs and bunnies.
Good video Dave nice maple log glad you are back doing videos I was getting worried, good that everything is alright,
Thanks Paul. It felt REALLY good.
When you say to count the knots it is usually because there isn't many
TWO
@@suemoore1965 Now...........wasn't it more entertaining than just watching? Dave
@@TheOldManAndTheSaw I always enjoy your videos. Usually you post them at 1 am Michigan time. This one you posted at a normal time. This damn weather is draining my funny bone.
@@suemoore1965 The problem, Sue, is that I'm VERY behind in my videos. I usually have up to a month queued for release but I've been so busy that queue went down to ZERO!!. This video was uploaded immediately after I finished editing it. That's why it was posted at "normal time. There's a new video that I just finished 1 minute ago that will be uploaded when I finish this comment. STAY TUNED SUE!!
Are you on vacation Dave ?
Just the opposite!. Trying to finish a house we're renovating. Planning on going to Matt's on Friday to mill some logs. Hope to have a new video out as soon as Sunday. Thanks for noticing.
It’s possible your not square after the first 2 cuts cuz saw can be dull or pushing it to hard and the sawblade is running into the log or out of the log
Yes, that's possible.
It was actually an interesting video Dave...even though I don't have a delta planer. You'll have to do one on a dewalt😁 I liked the planer going mobile because someone forgot the bolts 🤣 I'm actually old enough to remember BR549 but probably from re-runs.
Thanks Paul. Wondering how many others are familiar with that number.
Good job and video Dave, I have to say you have more patience than I have.
I have LOTS of patience............as long as it doesn't take too long.
Why don't you box the heart?
Great catch! You're paying attention. I prefer to see what's inside a log before I arbitrarily select and remove a "bad" area. Dave
@@TheOldManAndTheSaw boxing the heart is when you saw for grade. Always chosing the best face. You live sawed it which does not yield as high grade of material. It puts the heart through the center of the boards.
unfortunately my sawmill business came to a halt.. I still do it part time but not don't have enough work to stay full-time..
Is the blade/machine self propelled or manly? You were talking about having to go slower with this blade to get a better outcome but couldn't you go at the same speed as this blade with the other blade to get a better looking piece of wood?
First of all Sue EVERYTHING I do is manly........at least that's what I tell people. The 4 degree blade (4/34) just can't cut as fast as the Turbo 7 blade (7/39) I usually use. It's all in the profile design. The Turbo 7 blade cuts faster but has a tendency to leave chatter marks in the board if it's not run fast enough. In the end, most rough cut hardwood lumber will be processed further which should remove all surface defects so, I guess, chatter marks are not a big deal.
LOVE YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR 😅
Thanks Sue. I learned a long time ago that a sense of humor is a great distraction to a lack of ability.
Man that does leave a nice finish. Did you brush the sawdust off between, or is that the way the blade leaves it??
I use a 12" drywall knife to remove the sawdust. Much faster than a brush.
Good job Dave! I'm glad to see someone else appreciates the smoothness of cut of the 4 degree blades.
Smooooth but slooooow.
Dave, Matt sure has some real nice logs , beautiful black walnut. Nice job and video Dave
Thanks Paul. He sure knows how to buy them.
Your control panel screen shot is a distraction. I am unsubscribing from your channel.
I'm very sorry to hear that you have unsubscribed. This video is the last one with the full-time inset. The inset was something I wanted to try and it didn't work out. I also found it distracting. Give the channel another shot. Dave the Sorry
@@TheOldManAndTheSaw Dave, since you will no longer use the insert in your videos, I will give your channel another shot. Take care and be safe, Henry Milan
@@henrymilan4702 Thanks Henry. There WILL be short times when I use inserts but NOT the all-the-time-annoying-kind of insert. It sounded like a good idea at the time; kind of like peeing on an electric fence when you're younger.
More nice cherry, blades seem to be cutting great, Paul's too
Thanks Paul. Matt gets some fantastic logs.
a rolling step down shot! I love it! Very well done too!
Thanks George. I prefer to see the wood grain and assume most people do also.
I was almost about to say that there was another toe board incident but upon closer inspection it appears to be an illusion and the cant was just short of the swinging bunk, oh well, I'm sure there will be an incident in the future 😁
See Paul? I don't ALWAYS make mistakes. Just most of the time.
Nice step-down edit
Thanks Andy. It's very beautiful wood and deserves to be center stage.
Where's the commentary old man? Next time, pay attention!
That's a very negative comment Dave. Dave
A lot of nice lumber from that one. Brent
Yes there was. Milling a nice cherry makes my day.
8:40 FINALLY I HEAR VOICES AND NO I AM NOT CRAZY... lol
There wasn't any "on purpose" talking in this video. I don't know why.
My 91-year-old Momma died last Sunday so if I don't get to your videos right away you will know why. Signing off as Anybody
I'm sorry to hear about your mom Sue. I hope that the good memories will help. Dave
No “welcome anybody” ?
Looks like the editor wasn't paying attention. Just for you Terry............. "WELCOME BACK ANYONE:
@@TheOldManAndTheSaw Thanks Dave !
I hope after you get it all back together you will be able to find the tree with the missing limb. That technique should have brung you enough cash flow to buy a few good black walnut logs. Good job there Sir. 😂😂
Thanks Steve. The rest of the tree did not need to be re-assembled and is now boards.
Thanks for a great 4 minutes, you make life fun
Any time I cam make someone smile I know that I've done my job.
😂😂😂😂Man I love your videos!!
Thank you. You're one of the few........................the VERY few.
If you ran the voice over backwards too we could hear what subliminal messages you are putting in your videos 😁
You didn't hear it but it was there. The message was "Make a comment with a smiley face". As you can see. it worked. I'm going to try another subliminal message right here...........SEND DAVE LOTS OF MONEY........
LOL Dave different
Thanks Paul. Most people agree that I AM different.
Lol. Is it back on the stump ? Always cut towards your buddy.
Not on the stump. The "lob" was a branch and Matt wanted the rest of the tree. Go figure.
Looked like some nice looking wood ❤
Thank you Sue!
Beautiful Cherry boards, those were really nice! And tell Matt if he keeps posing like that he's going to become very popular in Indonesia.
Thanks George. I will take great pleasure in telling Matt what you said.
Very nice video Dave Excellent cherry boards. Blades seem to be cutting great.
Thanks Paul. It's easy to get great lumber out of a great log.
Nice cherry and you were on your "A" game with remembering to lower the toe board 😁 In the overhead shots it looks like your adjustable guide pulley is askew, is it just the camera angle?
Thanks Paul. I'll check the guide wheel; it looks crooked to me too!
I checked the guide and it's OK. I think that the video is opti-delusional.
@@TheOldManAndTheSaw That's good! I find video also adds a few inches to my belly size...very opti-delusional 🤣
Hobby Hardwood channel mentioned that his Woodmiser hydraulics are switch activated. If this is the same with yours it should be possible to add a switch to lower either or both toe boards whenever you raise the log turner (just like the back stops already do). If the toe boards are already down nothing will happen. Check with Woodmiser first though.
Thanks for the comment. No need to check with WM. My hydraulics are 100% manual. A switch and indicator light would be a great idea though. Dave
Bad luck but, the added suspense made for a good video. Brent
Thanks Brent. I didn't want that blade any more anyway.
@@TheOldManAndTheSaw I thought it was a law of nature. Only a new band could hit metal. Brent
@@lugtugsawmill4725 It IS a law; I guess the blade didn't read that part.
Would a garret metal detector help
It would, if I used it. I just bought a good detector and it's in the shop. I'm thinking you actually have to USE them for them to work. Dave
hi there been there , walnut always has metal best to all john
Thanks John. One less blade to re-sharpen.
Deep in the log aye ?
Yes, but not deep enough.
The toe boards may have been manual but also self lowering 😁 Good video Dave!
Now, if they could make the hydraulic kind.
