Can I Propagate a Fiddle Leaf Fig from Leaves Only?

    I just ordered this tent and will use it for the first time in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It should arrive in a couple of days :) You gave some great tips. You didn't specifically talk about the guy lines that can be attached on other points of the tent, but I think I saw some in your bag at the end of the video. Did you use them on your track? Do you have a specific brand that you like and did you measure them to be a certain length? I might get some as well for those windy days in the mountains.

      You are right! I forgot to talk about those. I am pretty sure I used a 1.8 mm cord off Amazon. I will post the link below. Mostly, this worked really well. I did have some of my taut line hitches slip one really windy night, but usually it held great. And I do think it is a good idea to use them to minimize the flapping of the large thin walls. @adventuresandreams

      Now that I think about it, I have not used the tent since then. I have some others that are better for car camping or for two people. BUT, I am headed to Norway later this summer and will be using the MID1 for a few weeks of hiking. I did talk to someone else who used it in Alaska a month ago - they had a few minor issues: 1) The inside corner of the bathtub/floor did not align with a stake out point so the corner did not hold the floor shape perfectly tight (it did not cause me any issues). 2) The mid-door stake out cord needs to be longer (I added several feet of cord myself). 3) Their woman's black diamond trekking pole was not quite long enough for a perfect set up even with the included extender (My REI Flash Carbon poles where more than long enough without the included extender).

      The Cloudrock Waterproof from On are advertised as waterproof boots, and they were close to new. Add to that many days of rain plus multiple knee-high river crossings, "waterproof" did not do much good, other than keeping my boots from drying quickly..

      Wow. That is a big cactus. Do you know what type it is? For repotting, the only thing I can say is I hope you have a few friends who are willing to bleed for you. But more seriously, if you have to repot it yourself, I don't have any experience with that big of a cactus, but I have considered a few options if I ever do: One idea I had was to rig up a frame (maybe 2x4 boards) and use a bunch of straps to slowly lift the plant out of the pot without having to lay it down. Another options I have considered is to place the old pot inside the new pot and then (gently) break or cut the smaller pot and remove it in pieces. Good luck - let me know what you end up doing. @mariamask5521

    Hi, thanks for the video - I was given a very large (think 5 foot tall) snake plant and it seemed ok in my office 9floor to ceiling) window for a year. I left that office and had to bring it home. It is in front of a tall window and getting plenty of light, but I have some very long leaves that have completely fallen over. I'm going to re-pot from the tight, small pot it is in. Question - you said you were be able to root the leaves you cut? Is that just in water, or....??

      That sounds like a great gift. I love free plants. I have had the best success propagating snake plants in water, but you can also propagate them in soil. I had a hard time keeping the moisture high enough during soil propagation. With either method, be ready to wait a LONG time for new plants to grow from the leaf cuttings. Good luck! 17 days is a lot of food and consumables! And a lot of trash by the end! Just started planning for my half as long trip in June.

    • @teatimewithja
      @teatimewithja Před 7 měsíci

      We were carrying about 30 lbs. (13.6 kg) of food each at the beginning of the trip, and it was not really enough. We kept the trash volume down by only bringing a few of the single-serve packaged meals. But a week-long trip in the same area would still be amazing. What area are you considering.

      I do not have experience with mildew in leather boots, but I have heard that pure vinegar can dry out leather.

      I slept out in the tent last night, I'm 6'4" and when lying on my back my head and feet touched the edges at the same time. I was sleeping on a Thermarest X-Lite, if that helps!

    Looks very cramped, ie touching the walls even when sitting and moving around (with condensation, guaranteed to get wet). Too bad, had some hopes up as it’s relatively wide and long, but walls sinply too shallow / leaning in. Have Bonfus Middus now, so looks like that’s a better design, even if heavier (but proper inner+outer and 4 season design)

    • @teatimewithja
      @teatimewithja Před 8 měsíci

      The Bonfus seem like a great tent, but I did not have any major issues with getting wet in the Mid 1, after I worked out how to set it up well, and how to move around in it. And I had a LOT of rain on this trip. But the Middus IS several inches longer, which I would not complain about. I would have to do a direct comparison - let me know if you are ever in the New England (USA) area and we can set them up side by side.

    • @X3RUBIM
      @X3RUBIM Před 8 měsíci

      You could get the Mid 2 with the 1P inner... that seems to be a much more reasonable setup for longer trips. UL gear is always advertised with how super high tech and light the materials are... but they dont mention how much of the weight savings come from the gear beeing small and flimsy... its light? yes... its also dog house sized... and the weight advantage shrinks compared to less "ultra light" dog house sized tents. Small without high tech is still light. And if you cant carry 300g maybe the solution is not to buy another 1 grand tent setup, but a 20 buck gym membership. Thats just my 2 cents.

    • @joni.palomaki
      @joni.palomaki Před 8 měsíci

      I had Ultamid 4 (assume you referred to to Ultamid 2 with "Mid 2"?) @X3RUBIM , but sold it since I was mostly using it alone, and while light, it's pretty bulky (Ultamid 2 is almost as large when packed), so the Bonfus Middus 2P is way better palace-size tent for mostly solo trips. Pretty bulky for bikepacking where size matters more than shaving extra grams, hence the Mid 1 here would have been an option, if it would not be so cramped, as seen in the video.

    My first time setting it up took me 1 minute and 8 seconds (I was like wow) was tight and lots of room. Packs down as small as the pro 1. Amazing tent

      Ha. That is a great time (I never timed my setup, but now I will have to). I did love how fast I can go from walking to lying in my tent at the end of a long day.

  • @FredOutdoors
    @FredOutdoors Před 9 měsíci

    Thanks for the review! It seems that the gap between the fly and the ground is fairly big. Does this mean the tent feels drafty? Or even back splashes when encountering heavy rain?

    • @teatimewithja
      @teatimewithja Před 8 měsíci

      You are welcome! I actually set the tent up that way on purpose some of the time. I wanted more air movement and more area under the vestibule. Other times, if I was on uneven ground or a small space, I set it up however I could. With a nice flat spot and some adjustment you can make that gap a lot smaller.
