Watched this again the other day with older eyes. As a kid I thought Kevin Bacon was a real villain who was cruel and unreasonable. Now, I'm not so sure. They nearly murdered him. Mostly I'm fascinated with how a homeless drifter was able to convince all these parents of young boys to let him take them miles from other people and no ability to contact the outside world.

As upsetting and sad as this scene is, the manager is within his rights. Sy was using company property to make personal copies of other people photos, if the manager had actually found out, but he was making prints of that. He probably would’ve contacted the police sooner because I’m pretty sure that making copies of others photos for personal use does invade some privacy laws. Not sure if those laws were in place back in 2002 when this film was made but it’s definitely something you could see someone getting arrested for today.
