There are a lot of options for housing in Dallas, a lot of different price points. Honestly I didn’t have a lot of time to find a good fit for me, but I did find this apartment that at least had a few of my non negotiables:
- Location: 10 min away by bike from my work, a few blocks away from 2 grocery stores and a Dart station + less than a block away from a bus stop that takes me straight to work.
- Amazon Locker: so convenient so my packages would be secured while I’m not home.
- Space: enough space for 1 person (550 sqft)
- Patio/ balcony: a nice size patio with a storage closet.
What it lacked:
- No elevador: I had to pick the apartment on the first floor because I refused to carry my bike up the stairs all the time (it would be awful with groceries as well) also my patio had an open view of the parking lot and that’s not nice.
- Laundry on site: even if the apartment complex had laundry room in one of the buildings, it’s awful to carry my laundry through 2 buildings in the heat of Dallas to wash my clothes in a washing machine I had to pay per use and it’s price increased considerably from 1.25 usd to 3 usd in less than a year.
- Storage space/cabinets: kitchen and closet were super small, so I had to put a lot of my stuff in suitcases and storage them in the patio closet. Very inconvenient. Also the bathroom didn’t have drawers so all my makeup was in the closet.
- Security system: I would see homeless people bathing in the pool at 4 am pretty much everyday and they didn’t do anything about it. The garage door was always broken so made my apartment very vulnerable since it’s easy to access from the parking lot. The mail room and amazon locker got broken into a lot of times. 😞
- Extra fees: I would have to pay for the smart home system every month even if the device didn’t work and they wouldn’t replace it. The amazon locker was paid monthly and then I realized that technically it should be paid only once.
- Community areas: they were always dirty and something is always broken.
So yea…. I suggest that if you are looking for an apartment it would be great to get an insight from a person that already lives there. Then you’ll know if it’s a good fit for you or not.
