1st thing... Awesome album filled with instant PS1 bangers. 2nd thing... Why i have never seen you guys in my recommendations like ever?... YT algo sucks as much as Atari Jaguar exclusives! 3rd thing... thank ya'll guys and gals
Any way you can edit to include what module each track used? It's a big part of the fun listening to these kind of things.
Nice review of some very capable and compact modules from the end of my Timeline of comparable keyboards & synthesizers 1978-1998 (Roland, Korg, Yamaha, AKAI & KAWAI) The VL is very interesting here along with the QY100 ... have you tried to hook them all up? Yamaha had some very neat guitar amps and effects - the DG Stomp that outplayed both Line6 and Behringer at that time :)
Once again I'm listening to this as I cook for my family. Yes. This is my cooking music
NO PORTAMENTO on Trinity, so misspoke at 43:53 ! (Solo-Tri Prophecy synth card and MOSS-Tri Z1 synth card both have portamento, as does regular Triton.)
The touhou 2 MIDIs were made for the SC-88 and not 55
I like that bright lime green hue of the screen, I wonder how they got it, it's not a simple green LED.
This is a really good video.
I own dozens of these 90s general MIDI modules for the mere purpose of comparing old MS-DOS game music :)
10:26 The XV-5050 has newer features because it's a newer synth. The XV-5080 was released in late 2000. The XV-5050 was released at the beginning of 2002. The XV-5050 has all the XV-5080 patches, and the XV-3080 patches, and some Fantom patches that weren't in other synths. 2001 was when romplers stopped being flagship synths. Composers were switching to DAWs, and hardware started targeting amateur producers. Grooveboxes were born. That's when E-Mu started selling Command Stations. The XV-5050 was the new budget-friendly option with a small screen, but they made a decent editor app and added USB (not class-compliant), and gave it some newer patches. Then at the beginning of 2002, the SRX-05 Supreme Dance card was the last new Roland expansion. It was all new sounds from Spectrasonics. After that all the SRX expansions were just repackaged SR-JV80 sounds. Roland was competing with E-Mu in the '90s. The Proteus/1 was released in 1989. Roland didn't catch up until they released the JV-1080 in 1994. The specs on everything by Roland/E-Mu in the late '90s are really amazing. They were both making modules with MUCH better modulation options than modern synths, and the Proteus 2000 and XV-5080 even had a 2nd MIDI input so they could play 32 parts. That's such a ridiculous feature. And E-Mu was using custom FPGAs and Roland was using Hitachi RISC chips. This was before the PlayStation was released in 1995 with a 32-bit RISC CPU. They were both using amazing processors for the day.
I think the free VST AquesTone uses the same or similar vocal synthesis methods
Midi links of demonstration
The slap bass gives it that iconic SC-55 sound
I watched this video and out squeaked a wet fart. This video is awesome!
Thats not SC-88 Drums isit?
Fantastic video, friend! I inherited an SC-55 from a friend and I'm looking forward to jamming with it.
Hey Speedy Love your video's man!! May I ask is there a way to get the power xg songs as midi files?
im really happy about how the jv series gets strong staying power with the integra 7. everyone can play with dem sounds lol
Fucking amazing. Kinda reminds me of FAST Racing League for the Wii.
I've played Shattered Steel but never MechW2... How do both these games compare? Anyone played both?
So what would be recommend version for a 1st timer 1st experience? I don't particular care for wireframe view (I guess) Battlepack then?
0:06 My favorite music
if you ever wanted to hear the microsoft gs wavetable synth but in significantly higher quality then the sc55 might be fun.
Mw2 open class action
Unholy Cabal is perfect theme for this cult. I'm picturing a Blood movie that starts with cultists gathering to do some unholy sacrifices and taking down Caleb and his friends. Amazing ost
Masterpiece work. Both versions are great but I prefer midi
It doesn’t have a mod wheel?
Neat stuff!
Thanks for sharing the MIDI files. I tried playback on a CM-500 without any noticeable difference say for a couple of songs where some filter effects seems to be lacking
Those drums are C R I S P Y
25:18 - The Legend of Silpheed ... one of the first songs I learned to play on piano, only I accidentally did it in C major. This is the first time I've ever seen someone else play it! And on a Roland MT-32 at that! Amazing to me!
These tracks are so catchy! Seriously, the authors did an awesome job with this album. I like this one slightly better than Power! SC-55, though both are excellent. While I always loved the sound of Roland SC-55, I like Yamaha MU-series samples better nowadays. I think they sound brighter and more natural than SoundCanvas synths, which sometimes have exaggerated reverb and chorus effects.
26:06 I love that New Jack swing vibe ..
Can you send digital out to an external DAC?
Oh... Hi Randy.
19:38 the lick

I have a terrible usb hum on this device. Any ideas on how to get rid of this ground loop cheaply? I've dealt with this usb ground loop for years!
Try a USB isolator. I've had success with the Adafruit ones.
@@rdoursenaudthanks so much!! I was just looking at my Roland as you were sending this!! Coincidentally!
@@brianbanks8570 Meeting of the minds :) Hope it helps you fix it. USB ground loops can be agonizing. Another great tool against ground loops I can vouch for is the Radial SB-6. Not in the same price bracket though.
Did you install it on the board itself or is it usb plug and play dongle? Thanks
@@brianbanks8570 I didn't specifically test with this device as I don't own one (yet) but I've successfully solved USB ground loops and other weird USB related noise issues with a multitude of devices that way. Just plug the isolator between your device and the computer. You will need to provide the additional micro-USB-to-USB cable between the isolator and computer. If it works and you want to make it a permanent solution, you may be able to embed it in the device, depending on your electronics/mechanical skills. If you're not comfortable, just keep the board outside, wrap it in something (I like to use shrink wrap tubing) to avoid accidental shorts and call it a day!
Lovely album cover and hot fire
Man, I HAVE to get one of these now! Sounds awesome!
love how when i wanna hear the most uplifting badass energizing midi monster track in the world i just gotta type "civvie music"
Your stuff is incredible! I also sent you a friend request on Discord because I have some questions about the Roland SC-88 Pro. The first track reminds me of Monkey Race 2 Expert track from Super Monkey Ball 2. I’m pretty sure it uses the Roland sc-88 pro as well.
Super smash bros melee started my love for this
Marble gallery!
Ever since I discovered the MT-32 I've been a huge fan of the Sound Canvas line and a huge Roland simp...Apparently my boyfriend's 'rich friend' had an 88Pro when they were teenagers. He played guitar and wanted to make backing tracks for it... Minor overkill for sure! Granted, this was in the late 2000s, so it wasn't exactly cutting edge or unreasonably expensive at this point, but for reference, to him "rich friend" meant someone who lived in a house instead of a trailer, and could afford food consistently...so still kind of impressive that he had one!
I once did a 2 hour karaoke show with SW50XG for ~150 people. It was a blast and the synth sounded really good (with good midi files of course).
I've found a XV-88 with a ok-ish front panel for 150 I've been looking for a budget workstation with decent pianos and loads of synths. Should I pull the trigger (except the fact it weights 26kg) ?
I bought this recently myself after seeing it on Media Pool - in fact, I have just this week put up a playthrough for my channel on Puzzle difficulty and am planning to add a review/discussion on Steam as well. Already grabbed the soundtrack off Bandcamp since the music (the game itself too, for that matter) reminds me a fair bit of Marvel Land and Smurf Rescue, particularly that enigmatic World 3 tune. (#^_^#) Speaking of which, just a small observation, but aren't the titles of the tunes Icy Melancholy & Reflection in Autumn the wrong way around? The former tune is clearly World 3, which is set in "autumn", with the latter being used for the "icy" World 4. Also, why was the password interlude screen tune from the Mega Drive version excluded? (^_~)
