Have you tried to work your floorplans digitally? You don't need a CAD software for it. That'll be overkill. You can request to have it on SVG so you can work it on InkScape, or DWG to use on Sketchup. Both softwares are free and very intuitive. As a last resource, you can just scan a paper copy and import it into any of them. For floor markings, I do prefer InkScape, though.

Dude, get a laser meter. Their only weak point is measuring locations lit by direct sunlight that make it difficult to see the laser dot. Otherwise, you can work alone, with nobody holding nothing for you. I use a 160ft range one, which has proven more than sufficient. Of course, you can have someone helping you with the tape, but you'll all can let go of the measuring tool. If you want to go the extra mile, get a laser level. It'll also project a line on to the floor for guidance. I never really saw the need for it, but I would not mind if one ended up in my toolbox.

Have you discovered the joy of working with multiple screens? Your laptop sure has a HDMI or DVI port. Try creating your spreadsheet with the screenplay on the other screen... or the meeting with the production team, or whatever else. You'll feel handicapped if you ever return to a single screen.

Have you tried Trelby for script writing? It's 100% free. The worse that could happen is that you don't like it, and maybe lose a few minutes of your life exploring it.

Scanning using OCR may help with this method; then, you would only be copying, pasting, and eventually editing errors. You still become more familiar with the script but save time and your wrists.

Great video! While I have never worked on a ship, I have known several people who have (performers, musicians, tech). One friend could not get over the seasickness issue and ended up having to leave their contract early. One person ended up having to visit the ship’s medical several times for STI meds. 😒😒😒
