I currently own a 95’ SZ-R 1 of 100 Deep Jewel Green which came with a 2j ge non vvti and 5 speed. I’ve always loved Supras, and you can find parts pretty easily, it was my dream car tbh, and all I would change from now til the future is to just keep adding more and more power. To those in the comment section who have never owned a Supra mk4, once you do performance mods, speed gets addictive, and very soon you get used to whatever power you’re at and consistently want more of it. My advice in 2023 for those looking to buy themselves an mk4 Supra is this, any year is fine, and if you can find one that’s later than 95’ that too would be even better but it’s not so important. Focus on condition, If you have a budget of between $30-40k just look for an NA non VVTI with the V161 because W58’s aren’t that good beat up. Both work well if kept in super clean condition or if you get super lucky a Turbo Automatic. Just depends, but sometimes you may find a few in the low 40’s just have to jump on it quick if you find one before someone else gets the deal. If you want a lighter car I would go with hardtop rather than the aero which is way heavier. You’d need to have more reinforcement in case of a crash, and if you’re buying a Supra that isn’t in the most pristine condition you should most definitely replace the coilovers and whatever else may be wrong with it. For my opinion, both Auto that come with the NA and the W58 are junk. I destroyed a w58 making 500hp, but a V161 on the other hand will hold 1000hp if not more, but y’all just have to remember one thing is that they don’t make parts for it. If y’all have the budget to buy a GTE though I’d recommend GTE non VVTI, since VVTI’s are just a lot more common to find because they came in more cars, will spool the turbo faster, but are usually the same price. If you’re curious about the block on a gte or ge, they’re the same on the both of them, and the only difference is that GTE’s have oil squirters under the pistons.
